Coverage may vary. In cities acceptable.
    Regional meh.

Curious - Is that regional experience pre or post Optus tower share contract?

      • -1

To ease your curiosity - my experience is based on using a Vodafone Sim currently.
I also use a Telstra and an Optus Sim - so can directly compare.

        • In the vast minority of cases the regional coverage should be part of the MOCN, and should be on par with Optus.

There are some regional areas that are on the edge of the MOCN that still need attention.

What regional areas have you had the meh experience in?

          • @bargaineer: Thats what I expected, so ill be interested to know too.

Looking to move my parents over, because they use so little (but their lack of IT savvy means its not safe to go low data), but also need reliable coverage.

Metro and urban QLD locations seem to be very stable from what ive seen with my dads mates and their grey nomad adventures.

        • +2

Vodafone regional coverage/performance is identical to Optus in most places as they literally share same MOCN coverage. It's always possible its not MOCN, but overwhelming majority when regional now is. The differentiator between Optus and Vodafone in 99% of cases now is price or if your city/suburban, then local coverage/performance.

I always struggled to get a decent coverage even in Sydney (across multiple suburbs). I take a break and come across reports of people getting awesome coverage so I decide to jump back on. And then find out nothing has changed and have to start counting my days till I can move back to Boost.

      • yeah i do the same occasionally, and Optus resellers too. Same as always, missed calls and data drop outs. I hate Telstra as a company, but their network is so much better.

      • Always location dependant. Vodafone is very good where i live and in general i rarely have any issues moving around Sydney. It's a dogs breakfast at my folks place though, so i keep my partner on Boost or similar just so we have an alternative if we need it. Our last weekend away down past Kiama where we stayed all 3 coverage was garbage, but Vodafone was the best of the bunch. These things always change and will continue too especially as more high density housing rolls out. Doesnt matter what the network operator is, only thing that matters is how it works where you are.

    • Vodafone and optus share towers in regional now - not sure how much differences does it make though.

      • Huge difference for Vodafone. Modest improvement for Optus (benefited from some additional cells, and more spectrum that vodafone brought to the deal).

        • +1

Yeah big inprovement for optus in QLD.

Voda did a blackspot project some years ago and did repeaters and such to reach where no provider reached before.

Im gonna bite the bullet and try them. Too cheap not to.
Worst case, reception is a little less, It wont kill me to use my phone less.

    • Never had a problem except in shopping centre carparks.

      They can call later.

    • It's identical to Optus in regional areas now due to the Optus/Vodafone regional MOCN network sharing agreement.

  • anyone know if the boost costco deal is still available

    • Yes,until 21/12

    • i bought one yesterday.

      promotion expires 26 dec 2025.

but it may be store dependent.

  • -1

Does anyone know the deadline to activate this SIM card?

    • +1

On Shopback it says within 30 days of purchase.

  • Thanks t-man!

    Very good deals
    Very shit networks
    Full stop

    • +1

So you're saying it is a good deal 🙃

      • A true ozbargainer. Never mind the quality feel the width.

        • +2

Then I must be the replica ozbargainer. The deals have to/must come with the quality. I am not wasting money things cannot use/performing well/ suitable for my needs/ affect my life quality.

          • @AnyFurtherDiscount: Yep, new age member.

Lots of us buy now and figure the use later.

Dont ask 'classic' ozbargainers what their eneloops are for, unless you're ready for 'drawer fillers' as an answer lol.

    • I found all the optus carriers the worst for my case, telstra only slightly better. As always go with what suits your locality.

    • Works great where i live and work. They fare pretty well these days in the independant tests too. Of course always location dependant.

  • looks like this doesn't have esim activation via QR code?

    • +1

You have to get a physical SIM first for this deal, then you can swap it over to an eSIM if you really want to.
I prefer keeping my main number/service on a physical SIM, then my international travel as eSIM's, but that's just me, each to their own.

  • I have always used physical Sims. Any disadvantage to use eSIM for frequent porting?

    • +1

Yes, it makes you never want to use physical Sims anymore.

    • +1

Yes, sometimes the eSIM gets "stuck" and is not properly deleted from the phone; sometimes, the eSIM has the wrong number on it shown in the phone instead of the phone number that you ported. I tried several times as I thought that eSIM should be hassle-free, but every time I tried, it failed me, so now I always prefer a physical SIM over an eSIM.

    • You can't accidentally delete a physical SIM, one advantage of a physical.
I deleted my main service eSIM once when moving between travel eSIM's (my bad), so now I keep my main service as a physical SIM to make that mistake impossible to repeat.

On 5G the speeds are pretty shocking in the CBD due to congestion and poor priority, but I've found it works well when you restrict it to 4G only.

  • Dirty word on the Telco street is "Vodafone"

    • +4

That's rich given the level of incompetence and tragedy at the feet of Optus the past 2 years.

  • Swapped over from Boost mid year, will not be using Vodafone again. Poor signal & coverage in my Area, Noosa.

    • Before MOCN network sharing with Optus? Now will be identical to Optus in Noosa. I use my Vodafone service in Noosa quite a lot and have no issues now.

Bought it last week same deal thru ShopBack App. I received the sim a few days later but ShopBack said it wasn’t tracked so I have requested a review and have to wait till May to know if I get the cash back or not 🙄

    • In the same boat, bought last week and nothing tracked. Perhaps if we can get the OZB rep to expedite it…

      • +1

In a same situation - last $55 deal did not tracked at all .. i have submitted the screenshot of my recording , any idea how long it takes @gotyourback?

        • Me too, bought last week nothing tracked. Requested a review and got 2% cashback. Way off the $55. Is it possible to get a copy of your screenshot? I forgot

    • For everyone who interested. I got my $55 cashback after a week.

  • Last day to purchase is 12 jan. Anyone knows last day to activate it ?

    • The upsized cashback ends today. Must activate within 30 days according to t&cs

  • so you have to pay for the 35 dollar sim on top of the 189? and you cant activate the plan until you have the sim? but the cashback only lasts for another 8 hours, the sim will take days to get delivered? Seems a bit sketchy or am i missing something?

    • +1

I had this issue with Firefox. No matter what I put in my cart, it was always a $35 sim.

Changed to Chromium and it work properly. Tracked in 15 seconds. Twice… 1@$55 & 1@$0? The only email I received was for $55.

  • Mine tracked straight away (used the app). Thank you ShopBack!

    • Shopback app ? Then it took u to chrome website. Is it

  • Thanks OP, cashback tracked straight away. Had been waiting for a while for this deal to come up.

Switching from Boost, which is shit in my area and Vodafone is the only one in my area with decent coverage.

  • Tracked within 8 minutes. Thanks OP! Plan expires in January so perfect timing

  • Needs to be activated in 30 days to receive cashback. So for those whose current plan expires in Jan 2026 it’s good.

  • Just wondering if anyone has any feedback on Voda's performance in Sydney CBD? I've currently with Sloptus. Connection has been better than expected (5G enabled) but wondering if it's worth switching over or wait for a counter offer.

    • Sloptus?

      • optus is known to have horrible customer support.. hence the name

    • Keen to know the same - Vodafone coverage around the Sydney CBD area.

  • Thanks OP I got shop back notification for tracking within minutes. I used Firefox but disabled Adblock for Shopback website or maybe I am just lucky. I was using Optus for a long while as I was not satisfied with reception in Sydney City and my suburb from other providers even with Telstra backbone. Recently tried Everyday mobile from Blackfriday deal, I hated its reception especially in the gym and Town Hall, maybe I just got too used to Optus reception. Taking a gamble with Vodafone for 365 day plan, due to the recent MOCN sharing with Optus. Fingers crossed.

  • Not a bad deal, but getting tired of finding a 'decent' new plan for the kids every year!
    Upside… It tracked within seconds.

  • For this Vodafone plan - does anyone know if I can receive SMS for multi factor authentication (I.e. banks) for free when I go overseas without having to purchase an international roaming pack?

I’m planning to get an eSIM (such as TravelKon) and only use my Vodafone for those One time pin SMS (not worth buying a roaming pack just to receive their SMS)
