I bought this for my partner so that she could read in bed with the red light. We've had it for 6 months now, and I've just ordered 4 more for presents. I have a small collection of budget enthusiast lights, and I'm really impressed with this one. It has a dedicated switch for the red led and a dedicated switch for the white led. Very simple to use and effective. It is incredibly light weight and small in size. It uses a single AA battery. I'm not a referee for this (no discounts for referrals etc).

If it's just for bed reading, aren't there $10 or cheaper ones? This 240 lumen headlight doesn't seem bright…

240 lumen for a single aa? That's the white light of course, which is pretty impressive. The red is 5 or 8 lumens I think; it's bordering on too bright for reading, but still good. I can't imagine a smaller form factor or weight for a one led headlamp; this is good quality and you have the versatility of red light and white light. It might be better to post the better options though; I'd like to see them too.

yes, probably a thousand like that all using 3 aaa's. The big problem with these is that they're only as good as the weakest / worst battery. They're also heavier, larger, and similar output. Both are 250 lumens max; 1 is up to 125m, the other only 60m. To be fair, distance is often a balance of beam width - the wider the beam, the less the distance, so that will really depend on your priorities. The last linked bunnings light is also heavier, larger, 3 x aaa and no red led. Oh, and none of them (unlike the nitecore) have constant current circuit. And the nitecore has better rating for water and impact than all of them (ip66). But, yes, they are cheaper.

@poohduck: Very discriptive and informed reply that makes sense to me. Many people on here just want to One-Up.

@ozhunter68: I didn't intend to one up.. I just personally wanted something cheaper and workable if it's just for night reading and preferably not from Ali…

The first 2 you linked are almost as expensive anyway.
The Energizer is a no name low bar cheapie without constant current and stuck using 3 batteries.
The Wanderer is the closest competitor listed and still uses AAA's probably not a constant current driver and is in the end very nearly the same price as OP's deal. The OP deal is small, light, good quality, operates on a single AA or 14500 cell.
A Nitecore with replaceable battery is going to last a lifetime in most cases.
They're reasonably high tier for a Chinese brand.
In my book that's a bargain.
@virtual81: Yeah you're probably right. I just want to avoid buying from AliExpress if possible… Have had some bad experience with the quality. Like, I haven't experienced delivery or quantity issues, but the quality is… overstated… Nitecore is a reputable brand sure… but yeah… I just don't wanna go through Ali again….

No, in fact 240 lumens is too bright for reading in bed at night. You probably only need 10 lumens.

Oh yah that's what I meant

If you look at the spec sheet, the white light brightness can go as low as 6 lumens, which is good brightness for reading. The higher options allow you to use it outdoor, so a versatile head torch.

Surely on OzB essential, charge batteries at work, library etc. Save lighting power usage home.

Just found that red led is 10 lumens. It is bordering on too bright for reading but still good, and enough to use around the house https://flashlight.nitecore.com/product/ha11

Kindles are great for reading at night

The brackets are quite flimsy on these so be careful not to drop them. I've broken 2 of mine.

thanks for the feedback. Is that while attached to the headstrap or with the accessory multi purpose clip that it comes with?

Yes they were attached to the head strap and on my head. The hinge part broke., meaning you can't clip it on the head strap anymore.

thanks again, that isn't good.

Isn't it just normal price? I don't see a bargain.

normal price for a few sellers on ali express - they seem to be from $40 up everywhere else

Were you seeing red by the end of the night?
