If I'm heading to Japan, would it be better to get a physical copy there?

    • Yeah man, part of experience too. I personally will pay more for hard copy. And when you're done you can always resell it

    • It depends. Do your homework to make sure you'll get an English translation. It's not a given.

Heard about this game, and it might be worth trying.

Amazing game, top 3 games of the year for me easily, maybe even number 2.

  • Just be aware local multiplayer (couch co-op) is very limited and will be a big letdown for any second player older than a very young child.

Disappointing they force you to buy a second device to allow better multiplayer, but this seems to be a trend on consoles.

Played and finished it and personally don't think it's worth it even at this price but I do play a lot of crafting and farming games. I think the meta gameplay is a real let down and I'll explain further.

The crafting is excellent and you really need to level up all Lives as they benifits each other. Mining obviously benifits the Blacksmithing Life for example. Leveling up can become a little trivial if you play through the story and get access to higher quality materials early.

But outside an incredibly weak story there is no real motivation outside of getting being able to craft a tool that gives bigger numbers. You mine the same number of materials at hour 40 as you do at hour 1. You upgrade purely to reach the next tier in order to unlock the next tier.

Compare this with Valheim where the higher quality materials not only let you craft higher stat items, but new tool types, new crafting stations. Each upgrade allows you to explore more of the world instead of just letting you mine another material.

The tact-on Open World and Animal Crossing gameplay elements lack any meta gameplay outside of making the end boss easier. There is no reason to bother with either of these outside of personal gratification of something looking nice

Tldr: It's an okay crafting game with a lot of width but not a lot of depth. Level5 think they're on Nintendo levels of game design and pricing but they lack the polish of a complete experience. But that's just my opinion

    • Yep this game is way overpriced for what you get vs. modern competition especially from Chinese sim/farm/RPG games. Best example is My Time at Sandrock. Fraction of the price for way deeper in-game mechanics. Better in-game animations. More branching story lines. More NPC meaningful interactions and consequences and significantly better RPG design including combat. All for about 50% of the price of this game. Not to mention on PC version there is no DRM unlike this game

      • The way you wrote about My Time at Sandrock had me interested. But when I looked at some shots of it I quickly saw it’s not a game for me. I can’t stand games where the characters have huge heads. Looking at them makes me feel like I’m having a fever dream. I really wish game designers didn’t do that because there’s a few good games I can’t play for that reason.

I think you skipped over the base building and collecting recipe part, plus dungeon runs and a whole area of Gimo to explore. Also leveling up lives is quite fun albeit quite grindy at the end.

For anyone who's played the first game on 3DS and loved it then this game is a no brainer. But for newcomer like me I still found it's worth this reduced price but probably not full price. Considering it came out in June and rarely had any sale, I'd say it's holding the price quite well.

Also update for a Rogue Lite mode should be coming out this month which will get some more hours out of this. But at this stage you can still get a good 60-80hrs out of it, which I think is a great deal.

      • Not saying you're wrong, your opinion is valid. But I didn't play much of them because there was no reason too. All the mats I needed for the recipes were in the regular islands. The open world area took 2-3 hours to rush at the end because I was over powered from the story. There was no incentive to visit before. Same with the village building, other than making a place to look nice, why? I'll turn it off and never play again. Just lacked that extra meta gameplay to give me a reason to do either.

Agreed on the plot point. But if the original game is anything to go by and presumably Level5 will keep the support for this game next year with some kind of official Expansion/DLC, then things might pick up again.

Lots of fans were asking for the original regions to be added and speculations were made about those blurred out islands so fingers crossed there will be more stuff to get you back in.

In truth, I clocked in around 200hrs and pretty much made my island look nice. Wish they allowed for multiple islands like Animal Crossing but it is what it is.

  • Not sure why but I still don't see the sale. I've been waiting since yesterday. Is there anything I'm missing here?

    • Same, I've been trying for the Switch version. I don't think it's on sale for our region, only US and UK :(

The sale hasn't gone live in UK either on Switch, has in US and in Australia on all other platforms, since they said UK it should still be on sale here too when it does in Europe, might just have to wait a bit.
