You have derailed my new years resolution to curb frivolous spending and the year hasn't begun yet.
I met the guy who invented this in his shop. He has so many different crazy instruments to buy. Best of all he wanted to do an Otamatone jam together.
"deluxe" version is more expensive, but much better.

I played around with one of the smaller sized ones at the markets and it felt a bit awkward, like there wasn't enough space for the hands.

Bought a small Kirby one in Japan and it is a fun little toy, but there isn't enough space for true pitch control.
Also has a headphone jack that I think the smaller ones don't.
1) the bigger scale the easier you can provide a clear pitch
2) more important: "regular" Otamatone tends to interrupt sound if you apply not enough pressure with your finger,
so you have to push stronger and it's more difficult to play. Tested at several Otamatones.
(btw this instrument gives you a lot of fun if you are experienced in music and your ear is well developed,
it will be useless if not)
