Women's Large Walking Sneakers with Velcro Closures?

Hi all,

I have big feet, which unfortunately got larger with each child I carried…I'm now in a women's 12/13 depending on shoe brand. I can also wear a size-adjusted, narrow men's.

New Balance "used to" sell an amazing walking show with Velcro and then, inexplicably, discontinued it. They were nearly always out of stock/in-demand, so no idea why it's no longer offered.

My issue is that I use orthopedic inserts which were quite expensive, even years ago now. It's impossible to slide your foot in, you have to have the shoe fully open to get into it because of the material- no sliding your foot in- hence why I loved the Velcro closure.

Regular laced shoes means I have to literally open lace-by-lace, close lace-by-lace, then open lace-by-lace to get them off. I'm working with severe joint pain and all of this is too much.

Does anyone know of a standard walking shoe, with removal-able insert and dual Velcro closures being sold today in AU?

Thank you

Not sure about the shoe but I bought a long shoehorn from Kmart that helps me ease my foot into my shoes without having to open the laces fully out. I have relatively short feet but they are a wide fitting which can make it hard with shoes. Might be worth a wander around the Perth DFO and see what shoes they have from a bunch of stores.

    Best of luck.

    • Size 13…

Won't work. A lifetime of experience here. Didn't think I'd have this BS for my entire life!

Adidas Stan Smith comes in Velcro options

    • Only the child shoes have the three straps as the NB used to.

      • Is it a big difference though to have 3 straps vs 2 straps?

  • Thanks, all.

I just find it odd that there used to be a few options and now— zero?

Having an insert is bad enough, but getting it in and your foot in (your foot doesn't slide in, your foot needs to be placed perfectly in place, and then synched down) is so difficult— why did this choice disappear? I also have crushed lower discs, so bending at that level is painful.

Why would a maker end the entire line?

  • Never knew about the feet growing thing.

How about a podiatrist? They must come across your circumstances and may stock something suitable?

Even an Occupational Therapist may know of some resources?
