Cash Converters - Watches

Has anyone had any experience buying watches from Cash Converters? Eg Tag Heuer etc
Would it be any more or less riskier than purchasing from from Japan on Chrono24?

Thanks

If you had a legit Tag, and cashies offered you 10% of the value, would you accept that? or would you sell it to a local watch shop for 50% of it's value.

chrono24, from a seller that has been there a while, is verified and does escrow

  • Check Facebook marketplace and local groups. There's a bunch that deal specifically with say Tag Heuer trades or watch trading up to $2000.

They have some but still limited scam checks as well, so should be able to at least stop the worst from getting through.

  • Haven't purchased myself but their high value watches and jewellery are all independently valued.

    • Ok good to know thanks for that

  • Just Curious, Why from Japan in Chrono24? Is it cheaper from Japan?

Just from my research I think anecdotally Japan has a wider range second hand market due to their cultural perceptions of used goods. Also I think regulations on fake goods is stricter relatively speaking.

  • Definitely do not. You said you are a novice so you won't be able to spot a fake.

  • I've bought two Tag Heuer watches from them and they aren't fakes. Even if they got duped by someone selling a fake to them and they on-sold it, i'm certain you would get it refunded.

If you knew enough to know you'd been duped. And if you did, you wouldn't have bought it.

  • I would say that Chrono24 is generally pretty decent - watch traders there trade on their reputation, so there's a lot of incentive for them to be diligent.

I'd say the best place to start is with a reputable watch dealer. You'll pay a premium, but that's the price paid for the easy buying experience and the peace of mind.

Once you're a bit more experienced, you can start doing Facebook Marketplace and other groups - the best way to do that is to agree to agree on a price and then meet at a reputable watch authenticator. Once the watch is authenticated and all is good, then you can do the transaction.

  • I have 2 Tag Heuers, same model. 1 from Thailand for $10, 1 genuine, serviced by Tag. Friends always pick the Thai as genuine. Caveat emptor.

    • Yeah 99% of people cant tell the difference or more to the point they really dont care about quality watches any more as most people no longer see the point as they carry phones there days.
