Looking for Premium Feel Plain Tees / Pants — Thicker, Softer, Better than Standard Cotton

Anyone know brands that do plain, solid colour basics (tees, shorts, pants) but with noticeably better fabric quality?

I know every brand technically does basics, but I’m looking for material that feels thicker and smoother than a standard 100% cotton tee. Not heavy streetwear stuff, just something that feels higher quality and drapes better. I've bought AS Colour before, but they shrunk significantly more than any other top I've bought before, and vowed to never buy them again - this was around 2/3 years ago if anything has changed though.

Basically after plain colours, no logos, just better-feeling material. Any suggestions?

Examples of what I mean:

FINDINDS SO FAR
  • Supima cotton give it that luxury softness feel
  • Loopwheel construction gives them more density and a bit more softness
  • Some polyester help them not crease as much
  • Best overall value for money are Uniqlo tops in almost every review
  • Top tier brands are Lady White Co. and Merz b. Schwanen

    thicker

Dukeen tshirt on aliexpress starts from 280gsm and advertised as ‘pure cotton’ , starting from $16 before taxes or coupons, you will prob need to size up - I’m usually a small or medium in Australia, according to the chart on Ali I’m maybe more a XL lol

Gonna try these - if you use the heavy weight Uniglo u you can loosely compare sizes. I’m a S in Uniglo which looks to be around a S-M in Dukeen

Also wozzle Wozzle, to keep this on topic

Got my it today JW. T-shirt is decent. Good substitute for a Uniglo U heavy weight. I bought a medium; I’m an S in Uniglo, M fit is about the same.

Not worn it yet so it could all fall apart after one wash but initial impression is that it’s a BFYB way of saying “here I am. don’t judge me, love me”.

been buying uniqlo for many yrs , been excellent but recently maybe quality not as good as before

  • I get Plenum Studio t shirts from TK Maxx. I rate them. I'm also a fan of the heavyweight cotton t shirts from Americal Apparel

      I rate them.

What do you rate them? 1 out of 5 popcorns? 4 out of 5 stars?

  • What is your budget? Check out Lady White Co. or Merz b. Schwanen (loop wheel) if you're after high quality and fit. Personally I'm also a fan of Whitesville, which are again another loop wheel T-Shirt, but a good amount cheaper than the two former options.

    • Ideally I'd buy a bunch under $50 but I would spend $100+ for a couple of good pieces. Lady White and Merz b are always coming up as some of the best on every YT review video but I just hate there's no way of trying them on first.

      • If you’re in Sydney then Maple Store in Newtown stock Merz and Big Trouble in Surry Hills stock Lady White.

Both are well above your intended budget though, unfortunately.

  • AS Colour is thick and good quality. There's a bunch of shops in Melbourne and Sydney where you can try on for the fit. A lot of companies buy AS Colour shirts and have their brands printed on it for high quality merch. Saw it all over NZ for the premium tourist goodies

  • Hi! You said you'd spend $100+ for a few good pieces. Check out Citizen Wolf. They have a couple of different organic cotton weights plus hemp, marino and a tee made from 50% recycled cotton. The t-shirt prices start at $89.

It's custom made all you do is provide a few bits of information about and you shirt can be made. They have 94% accuracy of making a tshirt to fit you properly. If it doesn't fit, CW will remake the tshirt until it fits.

They only make the item once you have ordered. There's no "standard" sizes kicking around in their workshop, no pre cut blanks that they will customise. The fabrics are dyed in Melbourne and the workshop (which is open to the public for a short tour and/or fittings) is in Sydney.

CW's core business is t-shirts but have expanded their range. They have sweats (the inside is terry towling so they're breathable), polos, long sleeved shirts with a collar, skirts etc.

All the fabrics are on display in their workshop i Sydney. If you can't get in to the workshop or aren't in Sydney, samples are available online for a small price. I believe that's so people won't order the samples which would cause unnecessary waste. They are quite interested in waste prevention/reduction. If you look around the site you'll see :)
