98" was $3950 for BF sales. Cant get them to match it again. Currently advertised at $5100.
I got the 98" C7K for $3340 on BF sales. Its been great so far.
I think C7 is the equivalent.
Hisense not a bad tv, but I'd prefer TCL personally, especially when on sale.
I watched your video and honestly found the comparison pretty confusing. How is that fair?
The C8K is a higher-tier Mini-LED and costs >$1,500 more than the U7Q at this size. The 98" C8K can push ~5,000 nits, while the 100U7QAU tops out around ~3,000 nits. Put those side by side and the brighter TV will always make colours and highlights look better. That’s not a difference in panel quality, that’s just the difference 2000 nits makes.
The TCL is also built specifically to win dimming torture scenes. That doesn’t make the U7QAU “bad”, it just means it’s not in the same class (which it isn't).
Within its actual price bracket, the U7QAU is a solid Mini-LED with good brightness, good contrast and beats out the QLED models that sit around the $3k bracket by quite a margin, so at this price it's a very good deal.
The C8K outperforming it doesn’t prove the Hisense panel is bad… it just verifies that you’re benchmarking it against the wrong TV.
You must not have watched the entire video, at the end I discuss how the C8K was cheaper than the U7Q and its a no brainer.
I always find it interesting when people get upset comparing apples with oranges.
It’s still a valid comparison regardless if it’s the U8QAU or U7QAU or even an OLED.
In my opinion it’s great to see how far apart they are.
Once I saw how much better the C8K was and it was less expensive. My U7QAU was gone.

I’m also happy to listen to other disagree. I generally don’t take much on board if you’re just saying that without owning the TV. I had it for about a year, and gaming performance was so poor. Horrible pixel smearing etc.

I haven't downvoted but just my take on this, your initial comment offers no info and just says check out my channel, I understand you can't post links but without them its a pretty pointless comment. It took until someone found the channel, and shared info on your comparison that you then took the time to share your impressions and findings.
Imo you probably would have got a different reaction if you had given the above summary as the first comment and saying something like hit up my channel for the full comparison.

I did watch the whole video. The problem is the price context is completely different right now.
In your video the U7QAU is $5.9k and in this deal it’s $3.3k. That’s a $2.6k drop, which is massive for a TV of this size. It fundamentally changes the discussion because the U7Q is now competing in an entirely different price bracket.
A fair comparison would be against TVs with similar panel characteristics, which your review isn't.

I posted a video comparing it to my OLED, and many people complained and criticised it wasn’t fair. I don’t understand their issue.
If I compare a V6 engine to another V6, but comparing a V6 to a V8 is not right?

I don’t think people are upset at the comparison, they’re reacting to the framing. A small shift in wording from “this TV is bad” to “this TV sits clearly below the C8K tier” would probably land very differently.
For what it’s worth, I do appreciate the real-world comparison and effort, but I do also think context matters as much as the result.

I believe the real value often comes from comparing things that aren’t in the same league. That’s where the biggest insights and revelations tend to be. If we only compare like for like, we miss what actually makes something stand out.

They can achieve it with snails, chopsticks, magic, and any alphabet soup of technology/marketing for all I care.
Also people shouldn't expect you to have a crystal ball and provide future comparisons of how price fluctuates, but perhaps some reasonable assumptions/at-RRP comments could help.
@xrailgun: That’s the tough one. When I create the video I can only go off the prices etc at that point in time.
If you notice in the video, the price at the beginning changed by the end of the video which I discussed.
It’s very tricky.
Bottom line is, I think it’s a valid comparison and the C8K is well above the U7Q.
It’s difficult to make everyone happy :)
A fairer comparison is the C7K but it's still a helpful review because after watching the video I'm sure as hell not dropping 3.3k on a TV of this quality. I'd wait for a deal the C8K and pay a bit more or research the C7K.

This TV at 5.9k is laughable and at 3.3k the quality just doesnt justify the price on it's own or when compared to the more expensive but significantly better quality TCL models.
To be honest, after I got rid of the U7Q 100”, I put an old TV there for the time being.
For my other room, I purchased the lower spec Hisense Q7QAU. No mini-led etc. lower spec TV by miles and I’m really happy with it.
Managed to get it for less than 2.5k for 100”.
Knew what it was going in, managed my expectations, I’m super happy with it. $$ to value I’m much more satisfied.
I also feel gaming is more responsive on it. Never made a video about it.
If you’re simply looking for a 100” TV, I feel the value is in the lower spec Q7QAU.
Otherwise go for the C8K, that is a banger of a TV.

Seems you know your TVs. Hoping you can help. Haven't bought a TV since 2012.
Every sales person either lies/ or doesn't know a thing (actually really bad). For some reason, asking to see/ use the remote is like asking to see Jesus in the flesh! Anyway ….here is what I'm looking for:
In JBs the most efficient TVs (according to the stickers) was the LG- guy told me it was a mini led, probably wasn't, or a Toshiba QLED. The 75" were both rated at 380kwh/yt. To put in perspective, the TCL C7k 75 was rated double that at 760kwh/ yr.
I feel the c7k has a higher NIT max. Don't really need it. Average lit room. I run the backlight on our current Panasonic on 3 (I think it's out of 100). Looks fine.
So why is the LG much more efficient?
The Hisense 75" Mini LED is $850. Cheapest by far. Uses 490kwh/yr. But couldn't get a remote to try the OS. So not interested without seeing how the Vidaa system works.
Has full Free to air tv ability. Can record TV to a USB or micro SD. Missus records shows by the dozens. No need to watch adds..just fast forward them (Panasonic does this beautifully) Its a must have. Don't want an extra set top box, as it contradicts point 1.
Brand - don't care, except for Samsung. I went into big w (they reluctantly gave me a remote) and Tizen was trash. No way to set your backlight, gamma curves etc etc. Very iphone'ish. Hated it. No Dolby Vision support. No thanks.
Sadly, the JVC was one of the best TVs I have come across (picture/ Google UI/ records tv/ has the NITS for Dolby Vision (most cheapies only do HDR) yet can run on very low power when not playing DV content. BUT..it costs more than a Hisense mini led..and is clearly a cheap Chinesium brand these days.
So what would you recommend? Something that can produce Dolby Vision, and run on very little when watching the news…I recorded earlier that day.

Sounds like your focused on very unusual items when buying a TV.
You didn’t ask anything about picture quality, size, modern features like HDR, budget etc all the things a person should ask when purchasing a modern TV.
I don’t like Samsung. A lot of bad experiences, faulty products and exhausting warranty process.
If you don’t mind spending a bit more. Get an OLED, best picture.
If you want to save power get a smaller size edge lit LCD TV.
If you want to watch Dolby vision. OLED is your gold standard.
I figure only a handful of manufacturers make the panels, so the picture is basically the same once you calibrate them.
Since we watch FTA, I should have asked what TV has the best upscaling?
TVs that have caught my eye so far:
LG QNED - the most efficient by a lot. But outside budget (about $1000).
Hisense mini led - cheapest mini led
Toshiba QLED - The cheapest TV that still has an upscaling engine
Used - LG C7 65 OLED (cheapest of the lot). Panel replaced in 2022.

Sony 65 A1
Which of the above is best bang for buck?

Generally speaking. Modern Sony TVs provide great upscaling.

65 most likely. 75 maybe…as the LG 75 QNED and Toshiba use less than all other manufacturers 55" TVs. I assume due to derating the back light.
Would I be right to assume a TV with half the star rating (twice the kWh usage) of another TV will actually use the same amount of power at the same NITS brightness? (Give or take a few watts of cpu power). Meaning a low power TV will probably have a slower CPU / UI?
The used Sony A80J is 77" (2500hrs). Decent value. But doesn't have a PVR I believe. So will need a fetch box (or whatever you use these days…if there even still is such things).

I just bought this today at GG for 3.3k then saw this comparisson to a C8K and it is compelling. I am replacing a 110" projection system and can wait for a C8K special but I couldn't find where it dropped to the $3950 pricing in BF.
TV is on order and was told about 2 weeks delivery so I still have time to cancel the order. I might be waiting for a fictional pricing.

Going from 55 to 65, to 75, to 86, every time we've had to get a bigger stand or swap the legs on the tele (very lucky on the 86 that we could take the legs of the 75, long story), pain in the bum.
