GIO No Longer Providing Renewal Discounts

So I'm going to preface this by saying yes I do shop around and get other quotes :).

Previously I used to be able to call up and negotiate a discount on my GIO insurance renewal, however this year they seems to have put their foot down and aren't entertaining it anymore. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Suncorp bought them. Might have something to do with it.

what are you babling about, they bought them like 25 years ago

      • yes, in 2001

        • That's around 2-3 years ago

      • So, it took them 25 years to create this new policy?

        • This changed for many Suncorp brands about 3 years ago.

It has to get through a committee.

    Just leave and go elsewhere

  • Just create a new quote with different email.

  • Get a new quote and don't say your 'gender' is male.

  • Does that make a difference for home insurance? All other details remaining the same.

    • That depends on many factors, none of which are ever exposed to the public. You have to mess about in the online quoting system to test things.

It seems all (most?) Suncorp subsidiaries have implemented a limit on how often you can get a discount. How do I know this? I used to work on the AAMI brand about 30 months ago. A discount in the previous 3 years automatically excluded you from a discount discussion. Remember to test adding drivers to car policies; that sometimes reduced the premiums, but not if you add someone younger than about 30 years old. Also add a spouse/partner; I have seen that help, too.

    • Useful, do you know if this was policy or member based?
