Haven't seen this price on Amazon since July. Amazon appears to be price matching Coles from this week's catalogue.

These oats are one of the few products where I genuinely think they're significantly better than the home brand versions. See comments from previous posts on what others say.

  • Do we really need to rush for this?

    • +12

I do. My teenager eats a bowl of this almost every morning. We go through 1kg every 2 weeks or so.
I have camel alerts for this. I need it. I want it. Farken Oats.

    • Based on typical half-price patterns, Woolies will likely have this exact sale in the next 1-3 weeks. Unsure if Amazon will price-match that, but it's likely

      • +1

also subject to amazon having stock. I remember there was one time where coles/woolies had half price but amazon had no stock.

      • +2

I was buying inhouse brand for years, but it was slowly downgraded to chaff.
Then they started discounting Uncle tobys to $3.00.
My winter refuge, beautiful creamy porridge

    • +1

These ARE just plain oats, I think you'll find? Are you talking about muesli?

    • +1

You're thinking about a different product. This one has nothing other than oats.

    • +2

My bad, looks like when I clicked on the link, the first one that came up was Hi fibre quick oats, Sam's brand that has all crap in it

      • Easy enough mistake :)

$2.70 ea for 7+ boxes on business accounts.

    • Good find!

  • +3

I find the Coles brand traditional rolled oats is pretty good.

    • +1

Yeah me too. A few months ago I had no choice but to get the Uncle Tobys and something about it I just didn't like.

  • Max 3 boxes per account :(

  • Max 1 box now wtf!!

  • +1

I find coles and woolies home brand quick oats taste the same enough - what about these do people like so much? The flavoured ones I understand, but for plain, oats are oats, right?

    • +1

I eat the Cole/Woolies ones and there does seem to be a difference compared to Uncle Tobys.

    • I've been surviving on Coles brand since I ran out of Uncle Toby's. I think Toby is better but hey taste is subjective

    • +2

The taste is the same but texture is completely different.

  • Go traditional, not quick

    Edit: traditional out of stock

    • why, quick is quicker. tbh I like their protein one more

      • But higher GI, and it saves literally seconds

  • Thanks OP, got two, had Coles, woollies and red tractor, love to try this out

  • -4

Not a bargain. You are buying 100% rolled oats at almost double the price of Coles brand.

    Just buy this: https://www.coles.com.au/product/coles-rolled-oats-value-pac…

    • +4

Coles brand taste and cook different.
The kids can tell (and we keep them in an unmarked container) and won’t eat Cole’s brand.

      • -3

Keep telling yourself this. Otherwise hard to justify +30% on price for the same product.

        • It's easy to justify. These oats won't have a gritty (Aldi) or cardboard-like (Coles) texture after cooking, and it also won't have husks (Woolies).

          • +2

@frugaljerk: Look, I respect that some people genuinely prefer the consistency of UT, especially if you're sensitive to husks or grit. You're paying for stricter factory sorting, not better nutrition.

But this is not a bargain.

The base price of Coles Rolled Oats (the 1.5kg or 2kg value pack) is roughly $1.80/kg or sometimes less.

This deal, at $3.25/kg, is still a 80% markup on the home brand price. Even at the $2.92 Subscribe & Save price, you're paying 62% more.

For that 62–80% extra cost, you're saving maybe two seconds of cooking time and avoiding the occasional husk.

As for the taste/texture difference, if you soak the Coles oats for 5 minutes before cooking, they will absorb the liquid and have the same smooth texture as UT. It costs zero dollars extra to use a slightly better cooking method.

Paying $3.25/kg to save 5 minutes of prep and eliminate one husk is not a 'deal'; it's a convenience tax.

            • @Musiclover: Having 3 young kids to get out the door in the morning, I am happy to pay this small “tax”.

1/2 cup oats, 1/2 milk, 1/4 cup water, 3 mins in the microwave.

Happy kids and out the door in time without any complaints.

We have tried many other ways of cooking the cheaper oats. They definitely taste different no matter if we soak overnight, cook longer, prep by soaking, etc…

              • @internet-stranger: Paying +80% to avoid a 3-second visual check is a tax on laziness, not a payment for quality.

                The 'Husk Hack' is free:

                Pour oats in bowl.

                Add water/milk.

Husks float. They are lighter than the oat. Skim the floater off.

I've been feeding my kids the 'cheap stuff' for years. They aren't 'spoiled for choices' because I spent $1.50 less; they are fine because I know how to use a spoon. If you want to pay $3.25/kg for factory-guaranteed husk removal, go for it, but don't pretend it's a bargain. It's a service fee.

                • @Musiclover: The bargain is they (uncle Toby’s) are half price :)
You could say the same about a Corolla vs a WRX, they both get you from A to B.
Premium brands serve a market (like me).
I have tried lots of ways for the other brands and kids won’t eat them, so for me the price is worth it.
To me, the savings of buying the cheaper brand wouldn’t even pay for a few Domino’s pizzas once a year.

              • @internet-stranger: I have fussy kids too and they complain that the Woolies ones are 'too hard'. Recently I've started blitzing the Woolies oats in a food processor before adding the milk and microwaving. I've found that it makes them cook a lot faster and come out a lot creamier. The kids will now eat them although they tell me they still prefer the Uncle Toby oats. Give this a try if you haven't already.

                • @chigga: Thanks :) I’ll give it a go.

                  • @internet-stranger: Never seen a husk or anything odd in Coles rolled oats. Maybe I'm a lucky one.

I appreciate quick oats are slightly faster to cook, but also more refined, loses that slow release benefit of rolled oats and your paying substantially more.

Anyway, each to their own, oats are yummy 😋

At last! It's been a tough few months having supermarket oats. Truly first world problems, I know, but it's really hard to go back to cheap oats after having Uncle Toby's. I rate these over Red Tractor as well.

  • Probably one of the only things which inflation hasn't hit

  • short best before date. 16 April 2026.

  • You can buy it at coles for $3.25 this week, and almost certainly at Woollies next week

  • Back again!
