Shipping kills the deal unfortunately. Shipping cost to my location is more than the price of the dumbbells!

    • +10

Well, not every delivery guy can lift 47.5 kg ;)

  • +3

Free pickup in VIC otherwise $180 delivery which makes it about $3/kg still which is not bad.

    • -1

actually its for a pair of dumbells, so even cheaper than that ?

      • +3

        95kg (47.5kg x 2) for $300 inc postage >= $3/kg

    • None left in VIC it seems. Only QLD now.

  • $288.65 shipping to my location for a total of $408.65, ouch

Getting dangerously close to what I lateral raise

    • +10

Also dangerously close to what I put on this Christmas season

  • Thanks, grabbed the 42.5kg hex. Close enough for me to pickup soi the postage isn't a killer. Keen to find a deals in the 27.5-35kg range.

    • +6

same, my current collection now goes from 10kg, 15kg, 47.5kg… need some inbetween

  • +7

Dam up to 15kg i can understand but 47.5kg? Under what real life circumstance would one need to practice lifting 47.5kg in each hand?

    • +18

Bench press? RDL? Shrugs? Rows? Bulgarian Split Squats? Goblet Squats?

    • +7

I can't help feel like anyone that can bench a 47.5kg dumbbell probably just goes to the gym, that's hardcore lol

      • +5

        Home gyms are freeing

      • I can't help feel like anyone that can bench a 47.5kg dumbbell probably just goes to the gym

They do. They go their own gym in their house/garage where they have weights that they lift. I'm not sure why this is such a hard concept to grasp?
Home gyms are not a new idea.

      • Real man here folks, take a lot and admire. Training to be just like his hero, Andrew Tate.

  • +1

My word, what do you do with a dumbbell this heavy?

    • +20

Clean the dust off it once a month, as you tell yourself with hope “Tomorrow. Tomorrow is the day I lift you or at least roll you back and forth a bit “

      • 'tomorrow' for real this time

    • +2

Display them prominently before the date arrives.

    • +2

Good weight for bench press and safer so you can throw them if you fail final sets or you don't have a safety bar or spotter

      • You can throw barbells if you fail as well, provided you practice how to bail properly. I did it earlier this year with 150kg when I was doing a pyramid and didn't give myself enough rest time after a heavier set.

I do agree dumbbells are probably safer for the average lifter.

        • What sort of psycho benches heavy without spotter arms? They take an extra 30 seconds to setup and save you from possibly dying.

          • @d3ft: You just tip the bar and let the plates slide off if you get stuck and can't sit up some holding the BB

Only psychos use collars on their bench press if they're going heavy without a human spot..

          • -1

            @d3ft:

What sort of psycho benches heavy without spotter arms?

Anyone who was born before the year 2000…
Before the Internet you just went and did things and worked it out along the way. The obvious solution to this is as the other poster said, don't use collars then tilt the bar and let the weight slide off one end. It makes a hell of a noise, but it does the job

          • @d3ft: You can do what the others have suggested. Personally, as soon as I know I don't have it, I'll push the weight towards my feet as I quickly sit up. I wouldn't attempt a 1rm or try for a rep that I wasn't sure I had if I didn't have a spotter or safeties.

The comment I was replying to was talking about dumbbells being better for bailing. Obviously you aren't doing low rep ranges with dumbbells, so I'm talking about bailing with a weight you can press for 5+ reps.

Wonder even if I could do pickup if I could literally pick up to get them out of the store 😅

Can I get it sent via AusPost with a custom sticker of "try stealing this you prick" on it?

      • Iirc auspost can’t even take 25kg or more parcels. I forget how Kogan shipped my adjustable 2 x 40kg dumbbells - I just remember a skinny Indian dude trying to get it out of his van, no trolley.

        • +1

Yeah the current limit seems to be a bit wishy washy at the moment, the last time I spoke to a StarTrack rep they said 32kg but then we had a driver crack it about a 21kg item. Anything over <insert current limit of the day> is meant to be booked as a two person + tailgate consignment which costs about as much as overnight FedEx for the same weight.

Guess I'll have to pick them up and carry them home on the train to save on postage.

i prefer just buying weights in kmart to avoid shipping costs. its fair enough the shipping prices are expensive

I just do my workouts at Kmart/Rebel Sport and don't even buy them

      • +1

        Haha nice

  • +3

    its a steal

    I can't, too bloody heavy.

  • +3

C'mon, seriously, would anyone actually pay the $855 RRP for a couple of bits of metal?

Anyone who'd believe that would think $2000+ was a fair price for a coffee grinder, and think it was a bargain if they could get it for a grand and a half.

Edit: No, wait, sorry, now I understand why dumbbell weights cost so much. Its the cost of shipping them from wherever the factory is in the world to the store. Perhaps the store should get a local machine shop with a CNC lathe to make them for them.

    • +1

Who's paying for the shipping of the metal to the CNC shop?

  • to light for me. i dont have time to go to the gym so i sculpt my guns at home

    • +1

is one gun bigger than the other?

  • https://www.sumostrength.com.au/products/black-hex-dumbbell-… - Hex shaped ones are also $120 for 42.5 and 47.5kg. 47.5kg are available for pickup in Victoria.

42.5kg shows shipping off $90 to me in Victoria too (47.5kg is $160 odd), so might be an option for others.
