Great price for this dust collector.

    • Indeed

    • +16

i put an old blanket over mine so the blanket collects the dust now, lol.

Happy to take it off your hands for $150 if keen haha

        • +3

Nah i still use it now and then and really love it. But i must admit it does collect a lot of dust. Great wheel tho that feels solidly made. A basic wheelstand/rig is essential if you are going to get one, can usually get for like 100 on ebay or so. For me it's just - it's a bit like motion controls in gaming or VR i think - its good and everything but when you are chilling u dont want the extra effort of setting it up etc haha. If i had a spare room to have a permanent rig set up i'd prolly use it more.

          • +4

@Iggemo: This is why I'm thinking of selling my Quest 3.. I do love it, but often just the hassle of having to get it ready, set it up, put it on, not be interrupted etc.. well the juice isn't worth the squeeze. I'd love a proper racing set up, but I bet I'd use it for a week and never touch it again.

    • Dust collector because it isn't that good or just that people get sick of the driving games quickly?

      • +6

like treadmills etc, if you use it you use it but most dont.

if you want to play driving games though recommend getting a cheap direct drive wheel its just better. I moved from a G29 to a DD and its a really nice jump in enjoyment.

NB I am not dissing the G29, but spending more gets you a lot better unit as DD wheels have fallen in price a lot. That said, even the cheapest DD I could readily find is double the price.

        • +2

Any recs for a DD option?

          • +1

@pacotaco: Also looking for a DD Wheel and base .
Looking at Moza as they seem to have a bit of discounting going on .

            • +10

@troyww: everyone says get a DD wheel, they are cheap now and "entry level". Then when you look at the prices its 1k+ minimum for anything. Dont know how that is "entry level" these days but it is what it is i guess. This will be a much better option for most ppl than forking out that kinda money for a one-in-a-while novelty. Not shitting on DD, just being honest.

              • +2

                @Iggemo: hey @iggemo
I think you need to do a bit more research, you definitely can get direct drive for PlayStation for under $1000
Take for example the Thrustmaster T598:
                https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/thrustmaster-t598-direct-…

better than "entry level" Direct drive and under $700 on sale.

Alternatively, if you don't need direct drive but still want something good, consider this belt driven setup at under $500
                https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/thrustmaster-t300-rs-gt-r…

That servo base is considered the goat of non direct drive, and better than most entry level direct drive.

Good luck with your exploration in to the world of sim gear

                • @Aus Falcon: Dont send us into a rabbit whole without recommending racing cockpits 😂

Any suggestions on what to look out for?

                  • @meong: @meong , It really is all personal preference with cockpits. But make sure you take note of frame flex.

Other 5han that, you mainly need to consider things like space, storage, and budget.

If you haven't got into sim racing already, my advice is just start off clamping to a desk or getting just a basic stand to see if it's something you want to invest in furher and long term. Sim racing is can be a very expensive hobby and a lot of people get caught up in the fanfare, influncers, amd novelty of it all, and then go all out and buy everything. That's why you see a lot of second-hand cockpits and stands on Facebook marketplace, which might be a good place to go and look at to start off, that way, if you don't decide to keep the gear, your financial losses will be mitigated by the fact that you already paid used prices instead of retail.

Just be careful not to get caught up hype, fanfare, and novelty of it all. Most people see influncers and competitive sim racers with $1,000's worth of gear and think they need it, similar to audiophiles, you can spend all this money, but you only need to spend a franction to get what you actually need / want.

agree… i track my car but i don't think sim racing is for me either.

tho eventually i'd need one to improve my lap times, but i just don't see myself enjoying it lmao

              • @Iggemo: You can get cheap PXN DD for just over $500 from amazon but direct from PXN themselves $400 on sale boxing day

                https://pxngaming.com.au/products/pxn-v10-pro-3-5nm-direct-d…

          • +1

@pacotaco: Moza R5 or Fanatec CSL bundles are the two recommended 'entry level' DD packages - will be a big jump up from the logitech

            • +1

@NedStark102: Would get the CSL 5nm as it offers the best upgrade path

              • @niknaks: Yeah i'd probably agree - load cell pedal and the 8nm upgrade will be plenty for 95% of people, whereas the Moza you'd also need to buy a new wheelbase.

        • I think set up as well , most people don’t have a dedicated racing set up so setting this up for a few hours of gameplay is a hassle

        • +1

what DD would you recommend for entry level?

          • +2

@Lintson: Entry level stuff depends on your budget and what platform.

            Soley PC - Moza R9
            PC / PS5 - Logitech RS50 / Fanatec DD Pro Wheel
The Thrustmaster T598 is also a great wheel.

Pretty sure logitech and Fanatec have an xbox spec one.

I'm all behiund Franc-T comment nothing wrong with the G29 but direct drive is worth the investment if you like racing / sim games.

I also recommend 8NM as a minimum. The Moza R5 is a nice pricepoint but the R9 with higher NM is worth the extra couple of hundred.

Have a treadmill and Racing wheel set up in our back granny flat ..hahaha…

          Profile checks out.

Wheel and soundbar (Rockford Fosgate) were hard rubbish pick ups. Made a rig out of old pallets. Then velcro'd the soundbar satellites to either side of the seat.

This made the wheel so much better. I struggled without engaging engine sound and g forces you get from normal driving.

Stick the sub under the seat, satellites either side makes it so much more immersive.

Still looking for the best sounding game.

Had it back in PS3 days, used it a handful of times before it sat there for years.

I always recommend these over more expensive dd wheels as the most important thing is: Can you leave it setup so it's convenient to use regularly? If not it'll collect dust. With psvr it's basically good to go at a press of a button. PC takes a lot more pissing around so I don't use it much for that. If you use it loads of have a dedicated Sim rig then you may want to upgrade but personally I never felt the need.

  • +5

Great price. My kid uses his nearly every day.

  • Do I need a gear change set? Want to buy for my wife to start her L place. It may be worth for my anxiety.

    • +9

I… I think you just need to start her off in an empty carpark and a real car dude. Even the most advanced simulator rig ain't going to teach her how to park.

      • +1

Yes, of course. It will be her homework after actual road practice.

      • 20 hours of Euro Truck Sim and she'd be alright

    • you dont need it, no. You can drive in auto or use the paddles to shift.

    • sims (even the most expensive hardwares + title) will be useless for learning L plate. Get your wife an empty carpark.

    • Dirt bikes set me up for learning to drive.
Gave me the concept of letting a clutch out slowly. Also practice getting indicators ready before turning….

But that was the good ole days of open paddocks. Now that paddock is a sardine housing estate and cars have electric clutches that do it for you… Guess we won't need L's at all soon with self drive.

Just bought a few days ago for $287.

Just got the last one, apparently. Thanks.

  • I was looking around for gt7 which most of the prices has gone up or back to retail however if you need one there's still

gt7 25th anniversary digital deluxe on psn $77 from $155(sale ends on the 8th)

People trying to sell their used copy for quite high prices on gumtree

    Hope this helps someone.

  • I know this deal is expired, but don't forget to connect this wheel upto PC and emulate games like the modded Gran Turismo 4: Spec II with full wheel support.

  • +2

Deal back on, just purchased at $267.90 for my son who had his eyes on a second-hand model @ $225, can't go wrong with $40 more for new!
