As you have already stumped up the money for a Feather ($300 vs $15) you probably don't need a razor like this, I'd call it a step backwards.
For someone new to the world of DE shaving however spending $300+ on a Feather as your initial razor would be pretty foolhardy.
$15 on a King C to dip your toe into the world of DE shaving is an absolute bargain as it's a great mild razor for someone to begin on.
@OP, thanks for the post.

All good. I hope to bring lots of people into it but I understand many people don't enjoy it so it's really good to start off with something mild and forgiving to learn and see if it's right for them. I'm probably going to keep posting these when I remember to.

I tried another razor recommended by the de subreddit with my same feather yellow blades and it wasn't great. I'd love to have a second razor for travel, something I don't care about if I leave in a hotel or bathroom somewhere… honestly they are such simple things I don't see how there'd be so much difference between them. Thanks for the reply! I think its a great way to shave, so clean and slick!

What was the one you tried? Also despite being simple when you get to the higher end razors they do become more complex and I can say they really do make a difference. Still I appreciate this razor alot and as you said it's good to just have a travel razor that's cheap to replace. Hope it works out for you if you end up buying it.

A Rockwell 6S is my daily driver, for travel I have a Rockwell 6C.
I sometimes get a bit lazy on holidays with shaving, being able to change plates to suit my beard length is a boon. The 6C shaves practically the same (although some do say the chrome shaves smoother than the more industrial brushed metal on the 6S) it's half the price and if I accidentally leave it in a hotel bathroom I won't be kicking myself quite as hard.

@shutuptakemymoney101: That's a great razor. I haven't really found any deals on it though so I haven't bought it. I'm really looking forward to the day when it does go on sale though. I think the replacement plates are definitely the best way to do an adjustable razor as even the futur I have isn't 100% right and it's a genuine futur from Amazon au.

@HaydosK: I'd shoot an email through to Samson (he's an absolute gentleman) and see if/when he is expecting more stock.
https://blade.net.au/safety-razors/
The website looks dodgy but it's 100% legit with great prices and customer service.

@shutuptakemymoney101: Thanks for the tip. Haven't bought from this site but I know it's legit from what I have seen about it. What deal does he have on the razor when it's In stock?

@shutuptakemymoney101: Just looked and wow $50 for a 6c is incredible. I will definitely have to get that when it's in stock next.

@shutuptakemymoney101: A little tip for you since you helped me. If you use google to search for products you can use the Google shopping thing and look at prices. When you click on a product you can sometimes see luxx brands listed and that is a company that sells to barber shops and retailers in Australia so you can essentially see close to the cost price and determine if stuff is actually a good deal. The 6c is listed for $45 on that site so $50 is a great deal.

For travel why not use the cheapo Feather Popular Safety Razor Butterfly

@PvsNP: Nothing wrong but they don't sell it at the store and it's more expensive. Also the kcg would be closer to the feather razor they have Because they are both 3 piece and mild. Also the kcg is a clone of a more expensive razor. The Muhle R89

Not as high quality but probably a bit more mild. Works very well with a feather blade just like the feather razor as I have heard but I personally don't have it to compare.

+1, the included razors with the King C aren't great (and the cost to replace them is laughable), if gifting the razor the inclusion of another type of blade such as an Astra Green or Feather is a good addition.

Yeah. The best blades I have used in it are the feather and bic chrome platinum for now. Looking forward to trying some rk blades and Astra sp but I haven't got around to using the rk and I need to track down some astra's. The kcg blades are alright imo but definitely not a feather or bcp. I also originally used dorco prime platinum but the last time I tried to use it I didn't like it. Might have got a dud but need to wait to retest. Thats the hardest part about testing shaving stuff. Waiting for hair to grow back 😂.

how would it rate against the feather, less than 1/10th the price of the feather. try the king gillette, lots of DE razors on aliexpress better than the king gillette , i prefer the butterfly ones where you just turn the handle to open, also easier to rinse, give it a 1/4 turn, it’s partially opens and under the tap it goes. DE razors are very common in countries where wages are low, as it’s cheaper than cartridge razors, in some countries / demographics, cartridge razors are a a luxury.

I have both. And honestly the Gillette $15 is amazing value, buy it for fun. Cheap enough. What blades do you use?

I bought a few things (including 100 packs of Astra blades) from www.redoneaustralia.com.au for a good price, I used coupon code 'REDONEVICTORIA' and got a few dollars off, not sure if the coupon code is still active but might be worth a try.

Doesn't work anymore unfortunately.

I had this as a starter. Now have a Henson.
Night and day difference. But I agree that this is a good one to dip into the world of double edged razors.

Exactly the same for me. I also have a Henson and it's definitely better but at a much higher price. The thing I love about the Henson is that no matter how bad the blade is it always seems to make it usable while in this razor and the futur I have you really feel the roughness of the blade and if a razor is smooth or not.

If you're willing to wait you can get a similar razor from AliExpress for $7.00

Did that 2 times and cut myself with both. Done with doing that. This is definitely higher quality and has better qc

I started with a Weishi Nostalgic from Amazon (now selling for $25.66) so more expensive than the current King C offer.
https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B00PKHIDRA?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_co…
I'd rate the Weishi as a very mild good beginner razor as well but in comparison I personally preferred using the King C due to its weight, the fact it's now a much cheaper option is good too.

That's not a bad razor but not really what I was talking about with Chinese razors. They have an actual brand behind them and they sell them to many companies as an OEM for example dorco, Wilkinson sword/schick and others. I'm more saying be careful of clones and ones without a brand name. Like I bought a qshave futur clone and while I still rate them the QC on my one was bad. I recommend if you buy it you need to know what it should look like and buy the regular one as the black one I got might have something to do with the problems as it has black paint in the mechanism parts also so it's definitely not super accurate.

I see I got downvoted. I think it was just bad luck but I really recommend being really careful when you buy from China. There are some good brands but for example I bought a qshave futur clone and it was off center and cut me. Then next I bought a Henson clone and cut myself again (worse this time). The blade in the futur clone was not fully straight and the blade in the Henson clone didn't have even exposure. Later on i bought a real henson and futur I haven't cut myself with them at all. Again be very careful when buying from China and don't get it as your first razor because you need to know when a razor has uneven blade exposure and other faults. Like I said in the message I'm replying to QC (quality control) is important and is normally better with products being sold in stores as they have to keep a certain reputation and they don't want to send people faulty products that will hurt people.

I've been using the razor for years. Perfectly good, exceptional value. The blades that accompany the razor suit me well. I now purchase 100 astras for $20 or so. I mean shaving is practically free. I still use electric for my 'body' hair.

How is the Astra in this razor? Is it smooth?

Yes – Provided proper technique and preparation (face cream, warm razor, warm moist skin)
I love it. I landed on it after liking the original blades that came in this pack. And uses a variety pack. Many others felt too 'sharp' or too rough. From what I can remember the ones in this pack gave me a similar experience to the astra.
I don't have coarse or thick facial hair, I often pass through with poor technique (rushing for time). Very rarely nick myself, and when I do, it's from poor prep or a worn blade that hasn't been replaced.
edit; Just saw your comment on roughness. I only use these for 2-3 shaves, roughness starts be felt around then – it can be ameliorated (in my circumstance) with better prep, technique. Feather were sharp for me as a novice but I may revisit them in the future.

Thanks for the reply. Great to hear about them. I have heard the same thing from others just wanted to know how it was in this specific razor. I think because you said you don't have thick hair a feather would actually be perfect. They work so well for me but they are costly that's all. Also I'm not sure what comment I made about roughness but the only one I have really had issues with is the dorco primes and I'm not sure if I just got a dud. I need to try again but wait for my hair to grow back first. I'm really looking forward to trying these and I hope they are as smooth for me as they are for you.

The Best Men Can Be… If you follow their ideology

There are other safety razors out there if that really hurt your feelings

Here are some recommendations for you.
https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/54939/jack… buy this half price.
https://www.shavershop.com.au/schick/styling-mate-double-edg… buy this half price.
These are both Chinese razors though so just buy them online if you really want them. Ones generic and ones commonly known as weshi

I have this razor. Its works well. I'm never going back to cartridge razors again. Such a scam.

Are these any good for shaving my head?
Im talking about the head on my shoulders.
Yes I use this one for my head. As others have pointed out, this is a good one to dip into the world of double edged razors.
I cut myself the first 5-6 shaves until I got used to the razor and the shape of my head.
My tip - take your time, never rush.

Yes it is but it's not end game. Because this is a mild razor you might not get a super close cut without good technique when you start but this is also good because it means you have less chance to cut yourself as it's more forgiving than others. Once you get confident with this you can move on to another razor and check online to see what razor you like. I have seen many people recommend razors for head shaving so I'm sure you will find something. There even is one called leaf that I see recommended that's like a cartridge razor if you wanted to skip straight to that.

Sorry, being inexperience, may I ask your recommendation on affordable replacement blade options, please?

Unfortunately the blades market is smaller here in Australia than USA for example but it's not all bad. Amazon can have some good deals but unfortunately from the last deal I posted all the good deals sold out. You want to aim for under 16 per 100 blades but this does vary between blades as some are harder to import. That's another thing, most blades aren't actually officially sold here. Gillette makes a ton of blades but the only ones officially sold here are the king c Gillette ones that are like $7 for 10 at the shops (basically a scam). If you want to find other places to buy look for local barber shops that might sell them or barber supplies shops. Also beard and blade is great as you only need to spend $20 to get free shipping but sometimes their blades are more expensive than others even with shipping included so just make sure to check around.
I just bought some Astra blades but I'm not going to recommend doing it the way I did. I bought them from big W marketplace with a discount gift card but tbh there is a chance they are fake so I'm not going to recommend like I said.

Update: not arrived yet but did find out where they are coming from and they look legit. If they do turn out to be legit I might add them to the deal.

A huge thanks for your sharing.

Any suggestions about blade made in Australia "Club", Oil honed?
Can I use it with King C Gillette Double Edge Safety Razor?
I'm not sure what you are referring to. Could you please send a link or elaborate?

I'm surprised myself what it is. Some one given me few packs as present. I opened one pack, it is looks as new, nothing wrong. Google AI find:

Trove (National Library of Australia): Historical newspaper ads might still exist.
These blades are sought after by collectors for their nostalgic value and unique heritage, offering a glimpse into Australia's past shaving industry.
Oh wow that's amazing. That will definitely work in this but if the packs are sealed I would keep them for their value and history. It's not worth using them these days when you can get a box of 100 moden blades for $16. If you are going to use them just use one on a special occasion or something. They look like they go for a bit.

@HaydosK: Yes, it could be for someone valuable collectible things. When I 30 years ago arrived in Australia, I bought on second-hand market lot of old style tools and some different things, which I find pleasure to have it.
Some tools I still have don't know its purpose of usage, but exciting how smart old technology was then.

How would it rate against my Feather A2-D2S?
