    How does this compare to an Asus router? 86u pro? Genuinely interested if Asus are just overpriced or it comes with quality vs this router

      I use Mercusys MR90X reflashed with OpenWRT it's awesome but maybe not the easiest to do that if you don't know much networking.

      I originally bought 2 to cover my house but after setting up the first one it had enough range to cover everything, sold the second one to a friend and he uses the stock firmware hasn't had any issues with it.

      Could check the Mercusys MR70X or MR80X if you don't need the MR90X wifi coverage or 2.5gbps uplink port. The specs/performance are great for the price.

        Mr90x looks good as well can behad for $120. If can get flint 2 for $120-140 then flint 2 would be better for faster cpu, double the ram, and 2x2.5gb ethernet ports.

          Yes depends what you want to do with it. If you are running a VPN on it and packet inspection you would want the stronger device.

            @Agret: I'm running docker (caddy) on my mt6000 with openwrt - I've seen a video where someone ran jellyfin under docker on the router (no transcoding, obviously - but if you don't have a dog's breakfast of media you never need transcoding).

      Stronger router means less potentially bottle necking on your network, if you're not having any issues you might not need a better one.

      Better router is for supporting more devices at once and better wifi range. Any cheap router will handle 25mbps plan no issues. If you are in a FTTP area you can get a 500mbps plan from Exetel for $80/mo

      The NBN isn't an OzBargain for users who want the minimum product like 25/10.

      Its prices definitely favour those who want an ultra-fast high data volume product. They have been priced to only cost a little bit more to nudge people to pay a few dollars more, and a few dollars more, and a few dollars more.

      There isn't any router that's going to not cope with 25/10. There's no router that's going to make 25/10 faster, or even feel faster.

    I've had this router for a couple months and it's good! I'm on a 500mbps plan and with my telco router I was only getting 250mbps upstairs (modem is downstairs), now it's up to 450mbps.

      Can't vouch for the OpenWrt version that comes as standard, but if you flash stock OpenWrt it will support SSID VLANs.

        Flint openwrt is fine. No probe with multiple ssid vlans. All done in luci

    A technical question here, using this router with Adguard turned on, with a list of filters applied, i can see it's blocking heaps of noises from devices sending out, BUT it cannot block the ads, ie on ozb web, also toggle on the "Override DNS Settings of All Clients" but still not working

          Seems fine to my address in Vic - ensure you're logged in and choose AU plug (others don't work). It's now $139.10 after the discount voucher here (price keeps jumping around so who knows how long it'll last for)
