"What exactly makes this a deal?"

Did you miss the first sentence of the description?

Edit: Edited cuz I don't want to be rude.

        • +2

Thank you for the amazing feedback, will work on it.

          • @nostress: You have impeccable self control! I would be hiding from the e karens right now if I was you!

    • +7

Seems to be the cheapest around

      • +12

Cheapest around at the most expensive time.

        • +13

          Prices will probably go higher

          • @bargainperson: Prices will go higher. GPU prices are expected to more than double next year.

            • +7

@BestTechAdvisor: Doesn't mean you gotta buy it.

            • @BestTechAdvisor: More than double of what??? A card for gaming is already being normalised at $1000, more than double of that? Who is going to buy this

                • +2

@BestTechAdvisor: Isn't that only because it has so much RAM? No way the lower end models will double in price

                  • @BROKENKEYBOARD: I don't know if low end models will double, but increased demand for high end products tends to have some spillover demand into low end products

                    • @BestTechAdvisor: The manufacturers will try to stop making low-end models if possible, simply because right now the demand for the high-end stuff is almost unlimited. You want to sell as much high-end stuff as possible at a massive markup, as long as market can absorb it, and the economies of scale doesn't tip away from your favour.

However in chips there will always be cut-down chips due to the inevitable defects, so there will be some low-end models in production, but shortages are great times for price gouging.

Hating Ai more and more each passing day and it's only the beginning!😢

    • +9

Is it a deal compared to prices before he price hike? no.
Is it a deal compared to other sellers NOW? Yes.

  • +5

    Thank you AI!

    • -5

I did ask ChatGPT to respond to this thread…

      The reply…
"I helped make computing more expensive, which is great because now everything costs more:

      • Servers, POS systems, cloud, backups — all run on the same overpriced silicon
      • Businesses don’t absorb higher IT costs, they pass them straight on
      • “AI features” get added, hardware requirements jump, licenses go up
      • More compute → more power → more cooling → more money
      • Vendors call it “innovation”, accountants call it “raise prices”

So yes, your RAM is $494, your GPU will double, and next year your coffee costs more because someone’s inventory system needed an AI upgrade.

      You’re welcome."

That attitude, I hope it catches a virus.

If you've got a time machine, I'd like a ride.

  • +1

i got this same kit for 175 just a few months ago :(

  • +3

    That price is ridiculous

  • +1

Shit i bought this for $72.80 in September

  • +2

Bought a ryzen 7 7700 cpu on aliexpress about 6 months ago i was going to build a computer it looks like i will have to wait a lot longer now to see if this cpu even works.

    • We are on the same boat, i have been eager to test the cpu lol
I just bit the bullet and bought the $250 ugly and slow ram and now will look for other parts and finally finish the build, the future does not look good for ppl to wait

  • +6

I purchased DDR5 32GB 6400CL32 Kingston RGB (SK M-die) for $359 back when DDR4 was still the standard, this new AI tax is even worse than the early adopter tax!

  • +2

    Hodl?!?!

  • This has gone from $145 to $749
    https://www.centrecom.com.au/klevv-fit-v-32gb-2-x-16gb-ddr5-…
Almost considering selling my ram to fund a GPU…

    • -1

GPU prices are about to double

      • If you have a look at pgrid. The signs are there. Haven't seen any nvidia gpu deals since black friday.

        • Nvidia and and just 2 days ago put out a press release that they will be increasing their prices with the 5090 to be increased from 2000 USD to 5000

          • @Shiroi Okami: No, they didn't. Nvidia haven't changed the MSRP for the 5090, it's just speculation based on current prices/trends, and the 5090 is a prosumer product, it will increase disproportionally to other RTX 50 series cards as it's target market is "enterprise with less features at a cheaper price point" and not "gaming".

  • +2

Just hold until the AI bubble is Done for

    • +4

Even if the bubble burst, the cartel would need months to shift production to DRAM and they would not flood the market to lower pricing…

      • The current market at least creates significant incentive to produce DRAM. Even if prices settled around $250-300 for 32gb, that would be reasonable. But a far cry from the glory days.

      • Yeah, don't expect much from the DRAM cartel.

The only long-term salvation is the Chinese and CXMT, because they absolutely intend to break the DRAM cartel both for national security reasons, as well as for economic and profit reasons.

China will always be a massive market for DRAM, and they know how to flood the market with cheap, commoditised products. After all it was the Japanese who destroyed US DRAM production when they flooded the market in the 1980s. And it just happens that consumer DRAM is on the low end of the market where it's easier to enter compared to HBM, with the likes of Micron leaving the segment.

  • +22

Im so over the excesses of capitalism and it's greed motive at all turns

    • +6

Yes komrade under alternative new rules each household get one stick of DDR4 8gb

    • -6

bahahaha this is naive to blame capitalism.

it's a manufacturing problem leading to supply shortages.

similarly with communism and China under Mao, they did not make enough food.

      Not capitalism's fault.

      • +5

It’s the over allocation of capital into ai companies that are chasing a moon shot of AGI and is using its war chest of capital in an arms race by buying up the global supply of chips and wafers.

It’s a manufacturing problem as far as demand has suddenly jumped with new ai customers with large buying power and they have been able to get priority access to chips.

The impact of this misallocation of capital into some future goal is starting to disrupt production of not just pc building but all technology we rely on such as medical devices, communications, automotive, etc.

Capitalism can be just as inefficient at resources allocation as state communism.

A conspiracy theory is that like wealth being pumped into housing making them unaffordable, there is some intent that hardware supply restrictions are leading to a world where we will have to rent it from cloud providers for everything.

        • Can you explain how it's an "over allocation"? How do you know that? Genuine question, what insider info do you have to know it's an over allocation?

If person A is wiling to pay $10 for a widget, and person B is willing to pay $100, doesn't the pricing reflect the demand of the market?

      • +1

Sure, but capitalism and marketing are intertwined: things like 'surge pricing' and 'supply chain issues' are some of their ways of justifying rip off prices.

If a company has supply chain issues that means incompetent management, that failed to plan ahead and invest in alternatives. Yet we have to pay for their incompetence, because they exploit an artificially created (by them) need for new and shiny

  • +1

I won't neg the deal, someone is determined to buy 32GB of new DDR5, in the next few days so, my condolences, this does seem to be 'relatively' a good deal, if you're absolutely determined.

If you're not, but are still building a DDR5 system, consider 1x16GB of DDR5, to get you by for, some time, might be later in 2026 the prices fall and the total set would only cost, say $375 (~$250 today + $125 later).

  • It's this card surcharge thing normal? I swear I've never had this extra charge buying online till recently.

  • I bought a 64gb kit that was $130 cheaper a few months ago

    • I also bought 64GB in December 24 for 330 - unfortunately does help anyone if they need it now….

  • +9

PC building has been so sad the past 5 years. From crypto bubble, to disappointing generational performance increases, back to an AI bubble.

    • Yes can't even think what the next bubble will be.
But this current dram drama surely can't last till next year because there not enough power and fresh water for more data centers?!

    • +1

I opened up PC Part Picker yesterday and found an old build I'd put together in March last year when the 9070XT was released. Has gone from $3300 to $5000 in 9 months time. My PC is 6 years old and I've been window shopping components for the past 6 months and it's just so depressing. Can't justify the cost for the performance gains.

    • Depends how you see it. I feel like now there's a reason to get a powerful pc (local llms, diffusion models). As it was before, you could run games at a higher resolution but better hardware didn't really change enjoyment or what you could do too much.

  • -1

if my ram die, i'd go full laptop, console, handheld.

    • +1

Laptop prices going up our rep told us. Wont be long before this affects general non-tech sector businesses, then the consumer, then the economy via inflation.

      • -2

        full iphone

        • +1

I would be surprised if you didn't get a flow on effect to phone prices eventually

  • +1

The price of ram is not going to fall (anytime soon i.e. this year). Ram production has already been allocated for the foreseeable future.

    • +1

I forgot "this year" is a much larger unit of time than it was last week and was about to say "it'll be longer than that".

  • +1

At this point, just dont upgrade. And in response to someone saying what if you dont have a computer in the first place, then go buy a laptop

    • +2

This is it, if the RAM prices were like this I would have stayed on my built until they went back down, or until I could find some legacy pricing (or 2nd hand).

'We are the cheapest of the very inflated prices'

      • If you plan on upgrading soon, think about going Apple. They got their supply chain costings locked down tight (as the A+++ customer for fabs) so they'll delay a bit before raising prices.

But when they do, things are going to be rough.

    • Alternatively check into whether your phone or tablet has a desktop mode, and buy a suitable USB-C dock, or some offer it wirelessly with a TV or wifi-connected monitor.

Even entry level iPads now have basic support. It won't help every use case, but it covers the vast majority.

The latest phones can run the mobile version of Fortnite at 4K60 with a cooler (subject to display out support), so there's gaming applications too without requiring cloud services.

  • I placed one on backorder, I feel so dirty for paying such a high price but with prices going the way they are, this is as good as its gonna get. PayPal pay in 4 softens the blow a little.

You can all point and laugh at me now.

    • lol paying this much for RAM just feels dirty, you could probably buy a very decent refurb laptop with 16GB DDR 4 or 5 for that price at the moment.

On principle you shouldn't be expected to bend over and pay up so much for RAM. I would just avoid it until it settles down, resist or pay there is no try!

      • -1

Im not willing to wait two years or more for the prices to go down. Also when do corporations lower the prices after raising them?

        • They drop when demand drops due to inflation or high prices, supply bottlenecks will eventually ease as supply increases.

It won't be 2 years, and you won't wait that long, someone will step up in the consumer space, too much money to be made

          • @GardenGnome: Linus did a video 3 days ago and mentioned a Chinese company called cmxt that is able to produce DDR5. However they are 2-3 years away from being able to produce the same output as the big 3 manufacturers.

I want you to be correct, I just don't have faith in big tech at all.

            • @DarnyBoy1982: Samsung or someone else will step up to fill demand. The consumer market is still important because there is constant demand, commercial demand goes up and down depending on fades, trends and bubbles. I would not stress paying extortionate prices now, if you can wait it out and not give into FOMO.

High end laptops with lots of RAM and high-end GPUs is another matter, that shipped has sailed. Prices already jacked 25/35% and won't come down until the A.I bubble bursts.

  • +2

    These are dark times.

    • I used to say that but I was told it's racist now because dark doesn't have to mean bad and light doesn't have to be good.

      • +1

I relate it to growth… with light aka the Sun, growth and prosperity occurs. In darkness growth doesn't happen. Have a look into seasonal depression in the Nordic countries to see what darkness does to people.

  • +9

AI excuse is just a scam, ram manufacturers have been busted many times before for price collusion and foul play, this is not a deal

  • +2

Christ wtf… probably going to see console sales increase if ram and gpu are to continue climbing..

    • +1

If GTA6 comes out this gen next Nov then you won't see PS5/Xbox price drops, probably remain stable or even increase. If GTA6 happens then buying a PS5/Xbox last BF or Boxing Day was a good move.

  • +4

I bought 94GB of this exact RAM for around $300 a few months ago

    • +2

      Do they even make 94GB?

      Wouldn't this exact RAM be CMK32GX5M2B6400Z36 DDR5 which is 2 x 16 GB

      • +1

im assuming it is a typo of 64GB

      • Mixed it up with CMK96GX5M2E6000Z36

  • +4

If you buy at this price, your are signalling to retailers you have more money than brains and that you are sucker that likes to be taken advantage of.

businesses only survive if they make sales, they will most certainly drop the prices if nobody buys at these ridiculous prices. You dictate the market, not them.

    • unfortunately fomo always wins, but you are right!

    • +2

That may be true if there isnt AI demand. Right now the retailers are paying higher prices from the manufacturers.

  • Is the item "in stock" before, because now it is showing "on order".

    https://www.saveonit.com.au/product/corsair-vengeance-rgb-32…
And this rgb one is in stock, but$799.

    • Its on backorder, when you go to checkout it says they will contact you with an eta.

  • This is a great deal, but not sure if they going to really fulfill it.
Also be aware bunch of repacked second hand ram pretending to be new already surfaced in Australia.
    Buy from proper source.

One day when I finally leave Lexar and this account became my personal account again, I probably get banned very quickly.
Because the things I want to say to some ozbargain trolls is going to be filled with words I wouldnt use at home in both English and Chinese.
