[NSW] Giant Liv Intrigue LT 2 - Aged Demin - $2,162 (RRP $4,199) C&C Only @ Giant Sydney

440

This is a bit of a niche deal, but for the price you won't find much better given the lifetime warranty on the frame and spec on the components. Pretty much on par, if not cheaper than most second hand bikes around. At similar price points, you'll really only find coil shocks or hard tails, as well as Shimano Cues 2 x 8-9 or 1 x 10-11 speed etc.

SRAM SX Eagle 1x12
Fox Float DPS Performance Shock
RockShox 35 Gold RL Air Shock
Tektro M745 Hydraulic Brakes
Downtube storage compartment
Flip Chip to adjust geometry
Maxxis Minion DHR / Maxxis Dissector Tyres

There are plenty of other deals as well on the LIV 1's and Carbon (Advanced) models. Also some deals on Giant Trance and Stance bikes. The Liv brand is specifically targeted towards women's frame geometry.

Happy Dealing.

just curious cos I saw some 14K rrp bikes, who would be their target customers? pro racers?

    • Anyone downgrading from a motocross bike. Same adrenaline buzz but you actually work for it.

    • +1

Doubt it, like most people that buy sports cars aren’t professional racers either.

    • +5

Im heavily involved in this sport and i would say its extremely common for people to ride 10k bikes. 14k isnt a stretch.

The RRP on the bike in the link seems pretty steep though to be honest. The spec isnt there for that sort of pricing. I would have thought it would be closer to 3k RRP

      • +1

Yeah look. Guilty. My bike retail was $16k but paid a tad over $10k.it is an eMTB though so it’s got that tax on it.

      • It’s got Giant / Trek tax. Compared to a Polygon, Marin or Merida, their retail for the similar spec is $3,000-$3,500 comparibly, but the closest actual to this price is probably the One Forty 400 and that’s retailing at $3,299 and on sale for $2,299, with an 11 speed Cues groupset, lower-tier brakes, however a better fork.

The Polygon T6 is a similar price to the Giant but down from a retail of $2,600 and has definitely worse components by far. 10 Speed Cues, Rockshox Silver Fork, and a very basic X fusion basic shock.

Yeah this giant is a decent deal for the sale price. I just thought its a bit rich to have a 4k plus RRP and its only specd with those 35 gold forks.

          • @speedyjonzalas: I guess that's why it's half off, they couldn't con enough people into buying them at RRP…

          • @speedyjonzalas: Agree with the sentiment, but actually if you change out the stock seals to the nice SKF ones, keep it well serviced, the 35 Gold is a pretty nice fork for trail use. I have a Fox Rhythm 36 on my other bike and can't say i feel like I'm missing anything riding the 35 Gold. The fox seems to stay feeling nicer between servicing. The Recon Silver on the Polygons is definitely worse (have one on my Son's Polygon T7).

30grand bikes makes so much more sense once gets compared to hyper cars……. buddy what would you live in??? 1879?

          • +1

@Hornpub: Apples and oranges. The only real differences between a $3k road bike and a $30k road bike are weight and electronic shifting.

        • +2

Yeah I just don't get spending $25k~ on a freaking push bike. That is pure marketing and proof you''ve got more money than sense.
You can grab a Canyon with the same running gear without the "Italian tax" for basically 1/2 the price. They're still using the same off the shelf Shimano components.
Bikes have become quite the wank factor with their top spec pricing.

Your mates are getting ripped off mate. Suspension travel is non existant compared to OPs bike. Tyres tiny with no grip. Even with all the Lycra really light weight so slow speed down a trail… Respect though if they're riding those bikes as intended for the original posted bike

      • +2

        That's insane.

      • It's insane that bikes without suspension can cost so much (although it would also be insane for a bike with suspension to cost as much)

      • +1

Congrats on being rich and having rich mates.

Average Joe can't buy a Ferrari. Not new. Gotta be vetted and go on a waiting list. They don't sell their cars to just anyone

        • +1

Don't waste your time, this is ozb lol

Their assumptions are laughable at times

      • +3

It's kind of different, in the fact that cars and bikes in F1 or MotoGP for example are far beyond what a general enthusiast would be using or be able to buy. In MTB however, the gap between the top spec bikes for commercial sale and what pro riders use is extremely small.

This leads to people who are really into the sport spending this amount of money on a bicycle.

    • they make a world of difference and its either enthusiasts that love the sport or people with a lot more disposable income.

i remember riding a decent MTB on the fire trails and there was this guy that everyone knew him by his nickname just going at it with his bike. he told me it was worth 12k precovid and to give it a shot. it was life changing. it felt like i was on a cloudy effortlessly riding up a hill

  • "The Liv brand is specifically targeted towards women's frame geometry."

    Can guys use this?

    • +2

If you are buying a brand new bike your be best finding something that is sized correctly. Giant claims the geometry on Liv bikes is “female specific” - if true, may not be the best fit for a bloke. If the bike doesn’t fit you correctly and isn’t comfortable to ride then it isn’t a bargain.

    • +3

Yes they can, the female geo is generally based around girls having shorter a shorter torso. Shorter reach, smaller cranks for a given frame size, etc, slimmer handlebar width, among others.

If you’re a beginner, you’ll have no idea but it’s still probably better getting a bike fit to you specifically as a newbie. With all that being said though, it’s possible you might actually fit the liv based on your own dimensions.

As for someone seeing you ride a Liv as a male? I mean I couldn’t give a f. Let’s ride baby!

      • Women's models often have better colour schemes too… this one aside.

        • Ha… I kinda like it :P

          • @Pelicannn: On second look, the metallic silvery blue is really nice. I don't know what I was on about last night…

  • +1

I’d take proven reliable Shimano Cues 10 or 11 speed over trash SRAM SX any day of the week. The Shimano will be lighter too.

Fork and brakes are pretty naff too. It’s close to bottom spec Rockshox and Tektro.

Not saying it isn’t a deal, but you could get better spec for similar money in a different brand (a Merida at 99 Bikes for example).

Giant bikes used to be good value, now they charge the same as Trek or Specialized without the cool factor.

    • I linked similar priced bikes from Polygon and Merida, for the price the components were generally worse overall.

It’s just the price to play these days, everything went up during covid and it hasn’t really come down much in RRP yet with the slowing demand, but the sales are starting.
