$19 for a pad thai? That's very expensive

    • +23

That price range is becoming the standard these days.

      • +1

There are many places still sell between $12 to $15 in southwest

        • Definitely not around where I am on the GC.

          • @Damannation: Sydney has always been cheaper and better, we have more migrants

        • I am in north west Sydney and inner west, pad thai is between $18 - $25, no way I could get a pad thai for $15 let alone $12. So this is a good deal

      • P'nut service sizes are pretty small compared to the competition.

    • +4

40 baht is better, but have to add about $1k for return airfares.

It's probably what stuff costs these days. I wouldn't pay $18 but $10 for lunch is a deal these days . Not that hard to make yourself.

  • +5

Serving size small from this place, unfortunately

  • +1

    is it in store too

Pad Thai pure vegetarian or vegan Asian food? U prefer only vegan Thai like bodhi in the Hyde park

    • What…? U prefer? Or I prefer?

      • -4

Cheaptech , English Tuition master (or simply sweet sugar daddy)yes techs are really cheap - not me but blame iPhone lolz 😝 typo by the keypad in iPhone auto type

        • +1

What are you even saying mate?!?!?

          • @Lord Ra: Low B12 from a vegan diet creates this sort of broken brain coherence issue :/

            • @7ekn00: There is evidence of that. Anyone can have low B12 levels.

Btw cows are given B12 supplements, easy enough to do the same and cut out the middle man.

I don't think chickens do though (maybe hormones instead).

    • Why don't you just ask them and not us, or look at the menu. Add tofu $1. Contains eggs but once in a blue moon probably ok.

      • Exactly…

      • -2

Lolz i prefer to eat in vegan Thai I love vegan dumplings like spinach and cabbage and veggies based one… they taste superior.

Please don’t eat animals as you also eat their poo as some animals or most has it in tummy lol …

Also, these Asian foods herein sydney despite asking a vegetarian they have shrimp sauce or oil in everything so im not eating anymore lol … I only
Go to decent or best class not low class vegan restaurants

        • Yeah you gotta just ask them or make it yourself

Sometimes it's not woth stressing over it as most restaurants would use the same prep and utensils. You don't want to be that person, out just eat before you go, don't go, or like you said go to a purely vegan restaurant (which is a very limited and more expensive selection).

I'm not too precious about it these days but do what is as practical as possible (and happy being 98-99% plant based - but i know it's a very all or nothing mentality).

@G-Shock: I agree I don’t eat out in any Asian ones these days unless it’s vegan and that too big ones like Bodhi.

They had another one very delicious vegan Thai near Wynyard few years ago called Peace and Harmony. In fact there was two by that name bot vegan Thai both near Wynyard. One of them was big and clean and decent and tasty. But expensive. The other one is very small take away kind of shop with 1-3 seats and not tasty.

The big one above was closed I miss. Small one still there but not good taste.

Some in Newtown near station and that too free meals but you should contribute how much you can …. I went once long back …

I love laksa, etc but vegetarian or vegan only not in any otherwise Asian restaurants or in food courts lol …

Yes making dumplings I saw in YouTube for a vegetarian dumpling video I learnt… love it… will make …

            • +1

@imYourBossFenny: Yeah was just saying that all vegan food isn't necessary healthy either, whole foods should be the aim. some vegans love all the processed junk food but that's for a different discussion. A lot of Thai food isn't particularly healthy anyway with the amounts of oil, salt, msg etc. still better than meat equivalents usually in term of saturated fats and nasties.

              • -1

@G-Shock: Haha yes completely agree I have those once a blue moon.

I also tried in the tea house in Nan tien temple which is vegetarian restaurant in unnandera, Wollongong inside the Buddhist temple. They are ok to experience once but i ordered a dumpling plate, a curry with rice and a cake, these were toooo expensive it’s about close to $50 I was shocked. The quantity was unbelievably less. Dumplings were very tiny and didn’t had much veggies unlike one of the best dumplings I had in a big very big Chinese restaurant in hay market long back, I know that restaurant serve both veg and meats but I had veg. That was super big dumplings very tasty stuffed with lots of veggies and very hot and very shiny looks .

The curry and rice plate I ordered in Buddhist temple canteen was also very less quantity. Absolutely not worth the price in my opinion.

        • Please don’t eat animals as you also eat their poo as some animals or most has it in tummy lol

My friend in the vast majority of situations when you eat meat it is the skeletal muscle, not the hollow viscera. Even organ meats like kidney, liver, heart and aorta, omasum, and reticulum are not in contact with faeces. Only large bowel (chitterlings) is - which is easy to avoid if you don't want to eat it.

@Save Medicare: But still that is a living being that puts the stool and you eat that living being that carried stool before. Now what you have to say for that?

          • @Save Medicare:

            AI Overview
            .
Meat can contain various potentially harmful substances, which generally fall into three categories: naturally occurring contaminants (like bacteria), compounds formed during high-temperature cooking, and additives used in processing.
            .
            In Raw Meat
Harmful Bacteria: Raw meat may contain pathogenic bacteria such as Salmonella, Listeria, Campylobacter, and E. coli. These can cause food poisoning if the meat is not handled properly or cooked to a safe internal temperature.
Fecal Matter: Due to processing methods, some meat products can come into contact with fecal matter, increasing the risk of bacterial contamination.
Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria: The widespread use of antibiotics in livestock farming contributes to the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria (superbugs) found in raw meat products.
            .
            Formed During Cooking
Heterocyclic Amines (HCAs) & Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs): These are chemicals formed when muscle meat (beef, pork, poultry, fish) is cooked using high-temperature methods like pan-frying, grilling, or barbecuing, especially above 300°F (150°C). In lab experiments, these compounds have been found to be mutagenic, potentially increasing cancer risk, though the definitive link in humans is still studied.
Heme Iron Byproducts: Heme iron, which gives red meat its color, can promote the formation of N-nitroso-compounds (NOCs) and free radicals in the gut, which may cause DNA damage and increase colorectal cancer risk.
            .
            In Processed Meat
Nitrates and Nitrites: These are common preservatives (e.g., sodium nitrite, potassium nitrate) used in cured and processed meats like ham, bacon, and salami to prevent bacterial growth and maintain color. These can form carcinogenic N-nitroso-compounds (nitrosamines) in the body, which are linked to an increased risk of bowel cancer.
Sulphur Dioxide: This preservative (and related sulphites like sodium metabisulphite, E220-228) is used in some meat products and can cause allergic reactions, asthma attacks, or gastric irritation in sensitive individuals.
"Meat Glue" (Transglutaminase): This enzyme is used as a food additive to bond smaller pieces of meat scraps together to form a larger, uniform piece. Its use can increase the risk of bacterial contamination as it introduces surface bacteria into the interior of the restructured meat. The European Union has banned its use in food over safety concerns, but it is legal in the US and Australia.
Other Additives and Residues: Processed meats can contain various other additives like monosodium glutamate (MSG), hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP), corn syrup, and food colorings. There is also a potential for trace environmental pollutants, pesticides, veterinary drugs (like growth hormones), and heavy metals in some meat products.
            .
Many health organizations recommend limiting the consumption of processed and red meats to mitigate associated health risks. Proper cooking and preparation methods can help minimize some of these potential issues, particularly bacterial contamination and the formation of cooking-induced carcinogens.

PS. The food isn't meant to be great at P'Nut anyway.

  • Anyone tried this place at Zetland?

  • +4

SEQ locations are in South bank and Windsor

  • Op, what's the difference between the optional spice levels, HOT or Spicy?

Both mean the same to me.

  • +1

    Hopefully it works

Everytime there has been a promo at p'nut my local always finds a way to disable it and then back to normal when promo is over

    • Just don't go there lol
Surely you can order and if it doesn't show the cheap price then don't order, assume you order online.

      • I ordered worked this time

        • Will try sometime too before the 18th.

Phad thai pretty oily but once in a while may be ok.

          • @G-Shock: depends where it is cooked I'll let you know

            • +1

@Poor Ass: Cool. Yeah a mate has been a few times (entertainment book), reckons average.

In BNE better off going to Thai on time or Ari.

              • @G-Shock: lol Thai on Time only if you happen to be in the city weren;t they selling buffet packages?

                • @Poor Ass: Haven't been there myself.

Yeah they always have been, but that was a promo for a month. Never been myself but of course you can order other stuff. Anything with bay maries you want to get there early when it's fresh and hot - same goes for ari and street food in Thailand.

To be honest jackpot dining is great and very reasonable ~$15, a bit westernised but plenty of variety and better overall.

              • @G-Shock: did you end up going for the $9.90 ribs?

                https://www.star.com.au/brisbane/9-90-ribs

Ordered on uber once… came in a box that was about half the size of standard takeaway box…

  • +5

Got a couple of chicken pad Thais for work

Weighed it and smallest weight was 559g and heaviest was 651g.. averaged about 600g per box based on sample size

Once consumed empty box was 28g

    Worth $10: yes
    Will I buy again: yes
Worth full price if no discount: no
    Taste: 7.5 / 10

    • +1

      Nice!
Thanks for those stats, 10/10 for your efforts!

      • ya welcome

    • Under $20/kg for takeout or restaurant quality meal is a deal in my book right now.

Thank you for your research and knowledge.

      • +1

Went back interesting this time every was over 600g

The vege pad thai 750g too

        • Bruh I want to go so bad but even public transport is expensive now.. I wonder if the stations near it have gates or not.

I want a good cheap pad Thai but prices in my area blue mountains is minimum double this deal.

          • +1

@AlienC: Well guess you just need keep eating katoomba rotis

            • @Poor Ass: haha right now its the cheese kransky's and mozzarella sticks and crispy wedges ;)

  • I have only tried this place once in the baulkham hills area. So i am not sure if it was a once off, but the food service size was tiny for the price we were paying. This was a few years ago.

  • Just tried it for my local (South Brisbane)

Pad Thai is the only item listed online out of stock… shocking!

      • it's working now they must of got a good kick in the ass

        • Yes got it the other day (veg, tofu+$1).
Pretty good serving size (full small noodle box).
Oil as expected with this dish, most of the tofu tasted a bit funny to what I'm used to..

Anyway it's pretty decent for half price, not sure how authentic, definitely wouldn't get for full price.

          • @G-Shock: def not authentic

I can't say most of the food in Australia is authentic to what they are overseas

I mean for decades what they served in Montezuma was apparently authentic Mexican food where an enchiladas or burritos were both a plate of burnt cheese

    • 100% they turn off or disable the promo they did the same thing last time bloody scum

      report to headquarters I reckon

      • Yes, definitely not. It's a pretty easy recipe, I doubt they even have a Thai chef. Just like most sushi shops are Chinese or Korean owned/run.

    • it's working now they must of got a good kick in the ass

Worst padthai Ive ever had and it also had peanuts, no option for removal

Allergies with peanuts for one person luckly they didnt eat it

    • That's wrong, it says what it contains after selecting the varient (in my case egg), scroll down and plenty of options to select to remove ingredients. And peanuts seems to be an extra anyway.

      https://imgur.com/a/xQw3mZc

    • No peanuts.. harden up lol
      They make phad Thai

  • Code doesn't work

    • Sorry, just now read, it only applies to one item..
