[Android] Free: Homsy - Family Organizer Lifetime License

2610
OZBG

I am a developer of the Homsy family organizer app, and I want to help out users of this community. Happy new year!

You can get the free Prime by going into the subscribe screen of the app, tapping "Home Icon" five times, and then entering the word "OZBG" in the field. Enjoy!

If you want to return the favor, I would be forever thankful if you could give the app a review.

I am also open to suggestions.

    • 1+ Download - this is a very new app
    • Website - your 'get in touch' and 'contact' buttons are broken and have filler data
    • Website - You list an 'App of the Year' reward for 2020 and 2024, however this is the only app you have available in your Google play profile and it's clearly extremely new
    • Your privacy policy is extremely lacking. You can't sell yourselves by claiming "highest standards of European engineering and privacy compliance." and have a privacy policy this terrible.

I hate to assume the worst - but with how little attention you've put to these, it makes me extremely worried about using the app, and how securely my data would be stored.

    It's a pass from me.

The app is new, yes, but I am a credible developer, I am a developer of Disciplined habit tracker, which has won Best app of 2024 by Google Play. This is my first app in my new company, still need to clean up the landing page, but app itself is very polished, i created it for myself since I recently became a home owner.

As for only available on Google Play, I am still awaiting Appstore approval for new company account, app is ready to launch on AppStore as well, when account is approved.

Screenshots look nice - I'll keep it bookmarked and monitor how you go

      • +3

The app stores data in the cloud. I wonder what data is stored and if encrypted. Not sure exactly what data because I don't want my personal details stored on the cloud nor my notes lol

        • Since it's a "family organizer" it would have to store the data somewhere online for the other devices to sync up

which has won Best app of 2024 by Google Play

Thanks, will give it a go, have no issues with privacy, go nuts learning about when my next bill comes or when the bins need taking out - Each Thursday for 6am Friday fyi

Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions. And dont worry about the privacy, your data is encrypted during transit and safely stored on Homsy servers.

You can check out my other apps, and you will never see a complaint about privacy issues.

Can you call it Waste instead or Trash?
        United States of Australia!

        • +5

Yes, I can! Will change that right away.

          • +5

@ziggy bird: I would suggest “Garbage Collection” instead of “Trash Collection”. Is “Bio” supposed to represent “Green waste”? For all I know, you could be referring to a “sharps bin” that medical places use.
Also, I see you have a place for utilities readings. Is there any intention to put in the bills due dates?

            • @Zippy7: Yes, I could add bill due dates.

            • +2

@Zippy7: Garbage is still an Americanism.
Agree with the bio, I presumed it meant green waste bin but it could definitely do with a clearer definition as it is open to interpretation

            • +9

@Zippy7: In Australia we call it rubbish, not garbage.

              • +1

@PleasureMe: Actually, some of us (born and bred in Sydney with kids) use the term "Garbo" (as in short for Garbage) to refer to the people and/or trucks that do our weekly collection.
Having said that, I also use rubbish - like when I tell the kids to empty the rubbish bins, or in reference to blatant lies.

Edit: Maybe we just call it "Bins". Since that is even more frequently on its own.

                • @Zippy7: You can call the garbo the binno ;)

        • +12

I'm so glad someone else said it.

I guess this is my opportunity to also comment on it being Organizer rather than Organiser

      • +1

Even with encryption I still want to know what types of data you are collecting.

There is no free lunch so I'm guessing it's collecting something useful to be free for the app itself…

      • For the "waste" collection, can you make the colours customisable? i.e. I want "General Waste" to be Red, etc. to match my council's bin's colours.

    • +1

      Noted thank you.

Any passwords or important info in the rubbish bin. Please advise if any yogi or chocolate not yet opened has been thrown out..

      • haha, Well I missed the last rubbish collection and now im storing food and recycling in paper bags… that'll teach me

        • +2

“Hey Siri/Google, remind me on Tuesday 6th at 9PM and every fortnight after to: take out red and green bins”

“Hey Siri/Google, remind me on Tuesday 13th at 9PM and every fortnight after to: take out red and yellow bins”

          Done.

iPhone version is ready, just waiting for App Store approval. Probably in a week or two max.

      • Thank you for providing the app! Will the iOS version also have the same deal? 🙏🏼

        • +11

I am scared to run a giveaway like this on iOS, because recently they have been banning developer accounts for giveaways.

But if you create an account on android and redeem the code, it will work in iOS as well.

          • @ziggy bird: any chance you may update the description for this? might be handy for ios + android users.

          • @ziggy bird: How do I do that on my iPhone? Legit question. Do you have a signup on your website?

    • +12

Out of interest, can you take a photo of yourself in your living room?
I want to see how you actually live.

My Android phone is more expensive than your iPhone.

        • +1

The irony of downvoting this given they are bragging about their phone being more expensive than an already expensive phone on OzBargain.

  • +2

I may be dumb but I can't find the 'subscribe screen' you refer to?

    • +2

It's the paywall screen that asks you to upgrade. You don't pay there, just press the large app icon at the top five times and field will pop up.

      • Thanks much appreciated. Initial thoughts are it looks nice and good to link with kids

  • +3

Downloaded, code worked - I'll set it up and give it a go, review in a bit when I've got a feel for it. Thanks for sharing, first impressions are good, although agree some American terminology is a bit jarring, but then Australia isn't the only country so I don't really see it as an issue.

    • +3

Thank you for your kind words! I will try to improve localizations so it feels more cozy.

      • +21

localizations need to be localised first!

    • Ready with that review?

  • +3

Am I blind or is there no way to integrate an existing calendar account such as Google Calendar?

    • +3

You could be both blind AND there no way to integrate an existing calendar account such as Google Calendar

    • +7

Currently there isn't, but if there will be a lot of requests for that, I can add that this week as well.

      • +23

I see Google calendar integration as a necessity for my family using an app like this (as we currently rely on Google calendar so heavily)

        • +11

You and probably 99.9% of other people. Third party calendar integration is a hygiene factor at this stage. I'd suggest adding it ASAP or this app is going to be a non starter - no one is going to maintain two calendars.

      • +3

Agree with the others. Without google calendars at least there is no point evening trialing this app. Too much work to bring everything across and I have non family members who won't have this app but can easily send a calendar invite

      • +1

Another vote for google calendar integration please! 🙏🏼

      • Yes please! This is make or break for me. Don't want to set up another proprietary calendar system

      • +5

        +1 gcal integration.

(Bonus points for Google Keep integration because all my great shopping lists are there)

      • +1

Yep this was exactly what I was going to ask the moment I downloaded the app. Looks great BTW. Please add this feature and it will be a daily drive app for our family.

      • +1

      • Another Google Cal recommendation here

      • this absolutely should be a priority!

  • Nice work

  • -5

Solid app concept. Might get it. What would be amazing would be ai integration. Let me tell it change this or that, etc.

  • +1

Will give it a try! 1 thing I noticed is general waste is green and green waste is red. Anyway to change that ?

    • +3

Agreed. Here is the code in my part of NSW - not sure if it is different by state or even region!

      Red bin = general waste
      Green bin = vegetation waste
      Blue bin = paper recycling
Yellow bin = container (plastics/glass etc) recycling

      Red bin every week
      Yellow and Green bin fortnightly
Blue bin fortnightly (alternating with yellow/green weeks)

      • +2

Oh weird - I'm in NSW and we don't have a blue bin.

Yellow bin is all (plastic and paper) recycling and it's on alternating weeks from the Green bin.

        • in NSW and we don't have a blue bin

Because you'd confuse it with your state of origin team?

          Sorry, that was uncalled for.

      • Depends on local council; Western Sydney

My LGA has Red & Green every week, Yellow fortnightly.

Aldo aware of some LGA that have a Purple lid bin just for glass

      • That's only for Kuringgai Council

  • Looks good! I have downloaded and enjoying it so far. Been looking for an app that does exactly this, but haven't found any that I liked. I'm optimistic that this one will meet my needs! I also don't mind not having calendar integration or AI. I actually like it that way, personally. The only problem I have found is when I edit an item in a shopping list, the keyboard covers the field so I can't see it while typing. All other features seem to be working fine so far!

    • +2

Thank you! You don't know how happy it makes me to hear this. I have put my heart and soul into this one for the last couple of months.

I will fix the keyboard issue asap.

      • +2

Definitely better without AI integration but Google calendar is where all my events are.

  • Hi there, app looks great so far!

I'm an android user so all set up, but my wife us an iphone user

Will she be able to subscribe to this for free with the promo code when you launch the app on IOS store?

    • +1

      Thank you!

The code works for a household. If you activate it, she will have access to everything automatically after she joins your household later.

      • +1

Just wanted to let you know that when I added my partner my pro didn't carry over and the code had to be entered for both accounts. I'm not sure if we just needed to wait a bit longer for it to sync!

  • Looks very polished like the rest of your apps. I'll give it a play and leave a review on the Play Store 😋

    • Thank you, kind person!

  • Thanks. Will give it a try.

  • Thanks will give it a try. Google calender sync would be very helpful though as others have said.

  • Thank you ,. downloaded on my wife's android device and played around .. looks very polished .. left a review on google play store as well ..

waiting for the IOS app to be downloaded and setup .. thank you ..

  • Calender view would be nice

    • You mean for calendar events, or for everything ?

      I will brainstorm this.

      • +1

I've got a tablet in the kitchen that I use for home assistant. Would be great to put this app on the tablet and have the calendar view on it - so my wife can easily look at the month and see birthdays, events and such

  • Ability to set frequency of meter reading please.
    I do mine weekly.

    • +2

Noted. Will be available in the next version.

  • Should Johny's wife be worried about Bella?

    • They are just friends!

      • I assume the 4 hours to "take kids from school" involves some sort of classroom kidnapping?

        • +2

          School is really far away.

    • It depends. Can Johnny afford to have side chicks in today's economy?

  • +2

This is pretty perfect, just need iOS app for my wife. Would be nice to get a small or resizable widget for just a specific Shopping List

    • Thank you!

Yes, widgets will be expanded soon for separate sections.

      • Also, does it notify you when something gets added to the shopping list from another person? That would be the best for me

        • +2

Good idea, will create that today.

  • I'm still not convinced about the whiteboard feature. Would people use that?

    • +1

It's more for kids to stay engaged and would want to use the app. Doodling things for you and you can see them in on your homescreen widget. It's more for fun not utility.

    • I still use a small magnetic fridge whiteboard. Simple but powerful.

  • I'll give it a go. Definitely I will give a positive review upon using it first.

Edit. Just installed. It looks good. All the best, mate.

    • Thank you, kind person!

  • Really enjoying the app, and can see myself using it. Some bugs / feedback:
    1. Chores - trying to enter every 2 weeks, starting next week and it's showing up for today (not next Tuesday)
    2. Moments - if I set a moment in the future (e.g. in 2 hours time) it says it's 11 months ago
    3. Moments - no way to delete or edit a moment? E.g. if I want to track when something is done but make a mistake it would be good to edit. I could see this being helpful for baby tracking - e.g. nappy changes, feeds etc.

    • Thank you for reporting! Will be fixed today.

  • Thanks for the deal! App looks very polished

When creating calendar events is there a way to assign to someone that hasn't been invited to the app? For example I want to make an event for my kids, like a birthday party or school event. Can we tag or assign my particular child as "their" calendar entry so my wife and I and see the appointments and events for each child?

    • +2

If I understand correctly, you want to add household members and ability to assign to them, without kids having the app themselves? It makes sense, I will think about it.
