  • Now waiting for upsized cashback on apple

    • +1

Cashback usually excludes gift card purchases.

Hopefully that won't be the case this time. 🤞

Not quite right sir, I have loaded apple gift cards on my apple account and made purchases using apple account balance and always got cashback…

        • That’s actually ingenious — I never thought about routing payments that way via Apple account balance. Clever workaround, nicely played.

The upsized ShopBack cashback for Apple seems to run from tomorrow until 11 Jan, but the Wollies GC are only available from the 14th, so I’ll miss out this time. Should’ve grabbed the GCs from Coles while I had the chance.

  • Finally! Been waiting forever for this to occur again!

  • +2

This is tempting but I’m cautious, having previously experienced a gift card being tampered with and waiting 2+ months to get my money back.

The gift cards I got last week from Coles had an anti-tamper seal on the back that covered the barcode. Apple couldn’t accept them in store, so I added the balance to my Apple account and paid using Apple Pay instead.

      If converting to Qantas points:

Qantas often have an equivalent bonus point offer when buying directly through their own Marketplace website.

They're immediately emailed so have no tampering risk, and some credit cards receive additional bonus points for purchases through the Qantas site.

  • Can we tear out packaging of giftcard before checkout?

The store mightn't be thrilled, and depending on how well the tampering has been concealed, it might not make an awful lot of difference. However, as recommended above, if possible you should check.

(My local Woolies keeps the Apple Gift Cards behind the counter these days with the smokes, so there's no opportunity to check, but this also significantly reduces the risk of tampering having occurred.)

  • So if they are behind the register, you can’t really check. What’s the best process to follow to avoid getting scammed/minimise the impact?

Maybe this is overkill, but if you tell the checkout worker that you are worried about the cards having been tampered and that you will redeem there and then. Then record the phone screen. Any issues ask for a refund? / call the Woolworths customer service immediately?

What if they aren’t behind the counter. If you check for tampering in the ways suggested (eg opening and looking at codes for scratches or issues with the glue. Isn’t that basically ‘tampering’ with them? In the sense that if you end up not buying them, the next person that picks them up will see them all open and if sensible straight away assume not worth it?

If they're behind the counter then they should be pretty safe i'd say.

Usually when i buy them & the prepaid cc's, the coles/woolies i go to have them still in plastic bulk packs. But if you want to be sure, as soon as you've paid and they've been activated; open it on the spot and check, ideally you add them to y our account on the spot. If the code's been scraped out or it doesn't scan, then kick up a fuss.

Last time i simply stood to the side at the register, where they leave you to pack your bags, and did it there so as not to block the next person wanting to buy their stuff. But i only bought a couple of cards so it wasn't too difficult. If you're buying 20x$100 cards or something then GL.

      • Cheers. I wonder if asking if they have a sealed pack still would work. I was hoping to use the variable load ones and put 500 on them.

Or I wonder if the variable load ones are riskier if they are more likely to have bigger amounts put on them.

Me; "Do you have any behind the counter?"
Woolworths uninterested drone; "No." Points to the ones on a stand beside the door.

How hard is it to have some behind the counter?

    • I read somewhere on here in a previous thread that there's a problem with dodgy factory workers actually tampering with them at the source.

  • Is the max limit $500 * 10 cards? 100,000 points? First time buying apple gift cards, can I use these cards for iPhone in apple store?

    • If it include the variable load than it will allow 500. Yes, you can buy iPhone at Apple Store using gift cards.

      • Do you know if there is a limit on how many cards you can use at apple store?

        • Eight's the maximum.

Easiest thing is to load the balance of the gift cards to your Apple account (up to a maximum of $4999) and then use up to eight cards from there.
