370

I was reading on frequent miler and I found that if you have KrisFlyer Gold - you can complete a status match/challenge with Marriott to obtain Marriott Bonvoy Platinum status. This is a great segway for those that nominated KrisFlyer for their HSBC Star Alliance card. You just need to stay 10 nights at Marriott to obtain Platinum status benefits.

Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Benefits:

Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite
* 50% bonus points on eligible hotel purchases
* Enhanced room upgrade, including Select Suites (subject to availability)
* 4pm late checkout
* Lounge Access

For those that have Marriott Platinum status, you can complete Krisflyer status challenge to obtain KrisFlyer Gold. You just need to fly 4 flights with Krisflyer to achieve KrisFlyer Gold.

  • Thanks for sharing bro.

  • Hey can we nominate krisflyer for the HSBC star alliance card to get krisflyer gold but still get the 30,000 Aeroplan bonus points? Anyone know?

    • No you can’t.

  • At least pre-COVID you could just ask Marriot for the status challenge - you could attempt it once every X years and not if you were currently or recently Platinum. Not sure if still the case but I do see occasionally "offers" like this one appear.

    That’s a good deal. I used to have ambassador status with Marriott from work. I specifically stayed in Marriotts for about two years after due to the perks. Free alcohol, late AF checkouts, always upgraded to at least a junior suite etc.

    • Haha yeah I miss those days where I travelled a lot for work

      Been upgraded to a couple of presidential suites along the way too (including the Westin Sydney while it was still around)

  • Do you know of anything I can do with air new Zealand/star alliance gold?

    • Email Marriott and ask for a status challenge.

      Cut up a mound of cocaine into lines?

  • There isn’t too much difference between gold and platinum just the points earn

    • the marriott lounge access is only available from platinum+. That is well worth it. Most Marriotts lounges will have free breakfast and evening drinks / snacks. The open bar drinks alone is well worth the perk.

    Thanks OP. I just got the HSBC Star Alliance last month and should be KF Gold in a few weeks. Perfect timing.

    I was Platinum Bonvoy for 3 years some time back and loved the hotels lounges, upgrades, breakfasts and 4pm check outs. Bring it on.

  • With the star alliance credit card can you convert your sa points to more than one airline's reward program or just the one you nominated for status purposes?

    • You can convert to any. You only nominate an airline for the *A gold

  • That's like …$4000?

  • It is a good perk but 10 nights is a lot.

    • not really.. 10 nights is just enough to hit marriotts second tier

  • Do you drop back into normal Marriott membership after a year or is this for life?

    • Itll be for a year (well a little more, you keep status up until Feb, plus 12m kind of thing)

      • Thanks, that's what I imagined

  • Do you have to book through the Marriott Bonvoy apps or you can book through any 3rd party apps to be eligible for that 10 nights stay ?
