What makes you think they stopped leaking your data

Was the data leak 75Gb in size..

yoyo, try to buy some attention by this kind of kindness? OPTUS just has to pay for ppl's passport or DL replacement fee due to the breach of hacking leading to personal info leaking out. Should kick optus out of OZ, how many accidents have been happening within last 4 years????

You really think kicking Optus out of Australia would lead to better outcomes for consumers?

Monopoly > duopoly, right?
It's like golf, yeah?
Right!
The 3rd option is not a viable option for many people.

the penalties for leaked data are too small, so they risk manage costs of compliance vs cost of breach, this is the same qantas, medibank, wish business would take it as serious as the banks do. Optus are becoming harder to deal with, swapped my nbn to exetel as optus wasted over 1 hour of my time on plan renewal ….

Why doesn't the government - you know, those people that supposedly represent our interests - simply issue new documents / ID numbers when a breach happens?

Targeted. Must be month to month recharges

Sounds great we definitely need it.
The link is only taken me to a recharge page where you need to buy a Sim card.
Has anyone got the free offer as yet.
I'm on a month to month prepaid recharge
Thanks
Definitely need it? I guess when your house is up in flames you need the extra GBs for Netflix. 😂

Can’t call 000 with Optus but at least you can upvote this comment with all that extra data.

Cant call any numbers on Telstra sometimes either…. Only a matter of time…
Funny enough, they gave me 74gb of data as compensation..make of that what you will.
That being said, Telstra is a little more protected.
You can dial 000 with Optus.

Suggest buying a new sarcasm detector.

With all that generous extra data you'll be able to 'email' the Ambulance service instead when you can't get through by dialing 000.

You could also text 0423677767 using the national relay service.
https://www.accesshub.gov.au/about-the-nrs/how-to-make-an-em…
Although the NRS is meant specifically for deaf and/or a speech impairment. If you cannot contact emergency services in a genuine emergency by calling 000 and there's no one around who can do it for you, I would try messaging that number.
Send an SMS to 0423 677 767.
Include the following information in the SMS
000
FIRE or POLICE or AMBULANCE
Your name
Location of emergency including the address or landmark
Brief details about the emergency
GA (Go ahead) at the end of your message.

Does 000 connect via WhatsApp?

Oh so they're doing damage control even before news of more 000 failures and data leaks come out… very proactive

OOO failures, mobile comes with an SLA and it’s not 100% , mobile phones are big tech walkie-talkies , not like a wires landline connection, there are technical limitations the telcos can’t fix, they are based on international standards. Optus phone can use telstra if optus tower is dead BUT phone can’t test to see if optus OOO is dead but optus tower is live in which case it won’t swap to telstra tower, phone just looks for a live tower to connect to not if OOO works, phones aren’t smart enough to check that.

What severe weather storms my pool is dead no water left 😑

Diddums

Cringeworthy… never seen such an obvious attempt to try and disingenuously win back some favour after having their reputation trashed through every fault of their own over several incidents in the last few years.

every carrier does this during any world or local event…how old are you?

Every carrier doesn't have the track record of optus. Get off your high horse.

I think it's easier to criticise than try to see from another viewpoint, wouldn't you agree?

I blame Gladys Bin Chicken.

Just received "Hi there, to help you stay safe and connected during severe weather events around Australia, from 12 January 2026, we'll be adding an extra 100GB of shared data to this service for three billing cycles (including this cycle). There's no charge for this data, and it will be visible on your account within 5 business days. If you cancel or change plans this extra data will be forfeited. If you need any assistance with your service, please call our Customer Support Hotline on 1800507581. Please stay safe."

do you want optus to send you an air conditioner? this is capitalism, none of these companies give a flop about anyone but shareholders

Optus is majority owned and technically controlled by the Singapore Government. This is what you want isn't it? Government owned and operated? But yeah, capitalism.

you did glance over the fact that it is owned and operated by a foreign government?? who would obviously try to maximise the money coming into their country at the expense of our welfare

didn’t have to pay for my DL in Vic if you were on the list of leaked ones, not sure if Vicroads picked up the cost or Optus paid Vicroads, DL replacement would have been cheap, print new one, add extra numbers on back, give to australia post.

these telcos all jack up the price of prepaid recharges, then offer you more data. clearly this "extra" data isn't costing them anything. extending your recharge by a month or whatever your plan is would be more meaningful. on top of that, it's only targeted accounts without any info on who is meant to get it. fine if they want to limit it to just the states affected but where's the info? don't go bankrupt or anything from all this gEnEr0sItY

Correct, doesn't cost them a cent

I bet only about 1-5% of these targeted users actually use enough data to get to the “bonus” data

I get 400gb a month and use around 30 of them what happens to the rest

you can donate unused data to needy, not sure how optus identifies needy and tags their accounts, read the terms and conditions if interested and want to make informed comment, i haven’t read them but do donate my unused data, not like it costs me.

during severe weather events
Vic on fire

reminds me of the good old days when people had radios and updates and news were broadcast over that, not sure how many people still have an AM radio vs just stream music to bluetooth and if internet or mobile tower is dead you become isolated. Won’t be long before you can use starlink if mobile towers are dead BUT will need a compatibility handset , and people will want that for free like when 3G was turned off, how old was your handset if it was only 3G …. over 10 years at least.

It's a nice idea and I'm sure welcome for some.
People like to shit on this but the alternative is they don't give out free data at all. Yes it's a relatively cheap gimmick, and yes they've had issues in the past but at least they're trying things like this. Have to give them some credit.

This will help with the Linux ISOs. Thanks Optis!

So there is no Server weather in other states?

Bro swear we got less when they leaked all our data.
