    What about charger?

    • Im really impressed by the ikea ones.
They have some sort of sense tech in them and never seem to get as hot as other 'dumb' nimh chargers.

      • +2

The IKEA ones are rebranded eneloop correct?

        What are these Amazon ones?

        • No, ikea make their own chargers.

          • +1

            @MasterScythe: Sorry meant batteries

            • @Twisty: Yes, it is generally assumed that LADDAs are rebranded Eneloops.

              • @bio: LADDAs lasted way less than my Eneloops, so I duno

  • +8

Is it very Ozbargain of me to buy these so I can save my Eneloops for a rainy day?

    • +11

Your Eneloops should be safe in your Superannuation account.

      • Damn right. I still have mine from the Eneloop craze of 2010 or whatever. And they work.

    • I had an impression the Laddas were for rainy days.

      • I don't have those IKEA batteries for rainy days however I do keep them in their boxes and I stack the boxes on top of each other to reach high-up things, change light globes and so on.

        • change light globes

Why bother? You can power a flashlight for a million years with your LADDAs.

Need D cell batteries for blink cameras but not cheap for the rechargeable ones.

      • Not eligible for the $7 off

    • +1

Get some A cell to d cell adapters

      • I do this but often i need 1.5v batteries else doesnt work properly. Depending on the gadget.

    • +1

Do those blink cameras require the full 1.5V power? Because some devices cannot handle the lower 1.2V of the common NiMH rechargeable batteries. If so, you might want to look into investing in 1.5V AA Lithium-ion rechargeable batteries together with AA-D cell adapters.

    • +2

3x AA's fit inside a D cell circumference. Ive done this regularly.

Makes 6600mAh, while a true D can be 7000+, thays pretty close for 'cheap and rechargable'.

      • Good to know. There's no issues with using NiMH's in parallel like is done commonly with lithium ion?

The number of times seeing "just use an AA-C/D adaptor" ignoring the fact there's a massive capacity difference…

        • Nope, not as long as theyre roughly the same charge.

Nimh and alkaline, even if you parallel a flat to a full, typically dont provide enough current to overheat themselves.

Not like lithium where 10's of Amps+ from even the smallest cells is both possible and destructive.

  • Are these ok in the absence of Ikea Ladda. My local ikea hasn't had stock in ages and was told no word on when they will re-stock.

    • +1

IKEA did get another delivery in they just sold out quickly. I picked up two 4 packs myself in the last couple of months.

      • +2

Link didn't work for me for some reason. Had to remove the dots.

      • How accurate is the marsden park stock status?

        • Anecdotally, I've used this stock tracker in the past to get a hard to find item. I'd head down to check if you're able to.

        • +1

I was told via chat this morning there's a few AAs at Marsden Park. Nothing at Tempe amd Rhodes.

          • @tman2020: I searched for them there last week and couldn't find them, but I didn't ask a staff member. This site listed them as available (above), but the IKEA website had no mention of them anywhere (including on the kiosks in store)

    • +1

Yeah I wonder what happened those IKEA ones were decent I need to stock up on AAs

    • I've been using them for toys. They are much cheaper per cell compared to alternatives. They perform very well considering the price.

  • Yeah I do need more AAs but how good are these compare to eneloop or ladda ikea

    • +1

Factoring in the price difference these are fine.

  • +14

Unfortunately the Amazon rechargeables seem to discharge quickly when not in use. I always end up having to charge them when I need them. Maybe this is standard for all NiMH rechargeables but it is annoying

    • Yeah seems like not good quality at all

    • My eneloops are the same

      • +1

Not mine, my Eneloops and LADDA are slow self-discharging, they can still keep most of their charges for months. My older Powerex however self-discharge faster.

        • Noticed the LADDA are no longer on the IKEA website?

      • +2

Yeah no, Eneloops are LSD(low self discharge) batteries rated to retain up to 70% after 10 years. You've either got fake Eneloops or you've cooked yours.

        • +1

Interestingly the envelope pro's self discharge quicker than the standard ones.

    • Eneloops and Ladda have slow self-discharge. I have had batteries in storage for years and still hold 80% charge.

  • Any recommendations for 9v rechargeables?

    • +1

can normally find on ebay pretty cheap - usb plug in to recharge

  • Anyone tested the actual capacity of these?

    • +2

According to reviews on Amazon, capacity is much lower than advertised and have a high self-discharge rate. Apparently, not Made in Japan as the listing says.

  • They might not be amazing, but if you have kids rc cars etc, these are absolutely fine.

  • Good enough.

    • +5

Damn, bitch. [Deactivated] within half an hour of commenting. What even happened here?

      • +2

        Ran out of juice, obviously.

  • $11.89 on Amazon Business

  • Can I charge them with my Eneloops smart charger? If so, seems like a good bargain

    • People are really harsh negging questions. They are both NiMH so yes it's fine. Would only be an issue to charge lithium batteries I think.

  • Will these last 15 years like my current eneloops?

    • These are much cheaper so there's that.

  • They don’t seem to be actual LSD batteries.

  • I have 7 smart locks at home that all require 4 x AAA batteries. With the normal energizers, it's last over a year so far for all of them. Would these be a good replacement you reckon? Anyone else with experience?

    • Once a year does not justify the uses of rechargeables. I would stick with the disposables if I were you.

      • Why is that. Wouldn't it be more cost effective to use rechargeables. Genuine question as i have Laddas in my smart lock and they last about 6 months.

        • +2

The value of using rechargables comes from recharging… repeatedly. Everything has a shelf life and deteriorates, whether it's being utilised to its full function or not. I wouldn't use them in anything that lasts more than say three months. In a door, the batteries might also be exposed to conditions that are highly undesirable, like humidity and extreme temperature.

      • A good reason to use rechargeables - it would not leak like the alkaline batteries often would if left unused for a while, damaging the actual device. For me, it's a good reason to use rechargeables for everything.

    • Use a better battery lol

    • We've used rechargeable batteries in literally everything since eneloops first came out. Sometimes I open up a device like a tv remote that probably hasn't been changed for 3 years and am surprised to find rechargeables in there. We have them in our door locks, gaming remotes, sensor lights, torches, bike lights, wireless mice, camera - anything and everything really! Not only are they worth it from a cost/battery basis once you hit a few uses, the environmental benefits of not buying disposable batteries are great too. They last so long as well - all of our original eneloops are still going, perhaps not at 100%, but not with a super noticeable degradation. Go ahead and do it :)

      • thanks, i have bought 2 x 16 pack last night!

        • Yeah but these are Amazon not Eneloops. Expect inferior performance especially LSD

  • +1

    Amazon says. I buy.

LOW SELF DISCHARGE: Maintains 80% capacity for 24 months

  • +2

    thanks OP
I just bought while waiting for Ladda to get back in stock

  • +8

For some reason they dropped the price of the 16x AAA to $15.89 (was $21.67 as per OP) meaning you can now buy 2 for $24.78

    • +1

      Thanks, got 2 for $24.78

    • Thanks, got the same

    • Thank you, I was on the fence but now this has sealed the deal.

  • +1

Been waiting for Ladda AAA for so so so long.

    Caved and got 1 x 16 AAA and 2 x 8 AA for $34.47

    • +2

      2 X 8 AA = $27.76
      1 X 16 AA = $27.22

      • +3

        Have handed license in

        • Made the same mistake. Will have to make back the $0.54 somehow…

  • not LSD.

    will pass.

    • +1

^ me when they try to sell me herbs

  • Any suggestions on which charger to buy. Thanks

    • +1

The IKEA one costs $10 if it's in stock at your local. I went with the XTAR VC4 for $30.90 because it can charge lithium and 18650 batteries too.

Edit: Actually, I changed to the XTAR L4 Pro for $42.41 with 4 AA lithium batteries. I figured the batteries are easier to insert, having USB-C is handy, and although the option for larger batteries would have been nice, I don't see myself using them any time soon. The L4 Pro is also available without the extra batteries for $26.90.

  • -2

How do these much cheaper ones compare? https://amzn.asia/d/bxlnsik

They are 50% more Mah, but much cheaper. Reviews seem alright

    • +1

      They're not rechargeable.

      • Sorry thanks for picking that up. Would have been devastated. Don’t shop half asleep.

  • 8x no longer listed (sold out?:-(

  • 'Currently unavailable' for the 12-pack on Amazon.

btw - I'm buying these to put in solar lights in the garden. LSD won't matter for this purpose, therefore these are perfect.
I should have bought another set - if someone has 4 (or 8) in Melbourne they ordered and don't need, I'd appreciate buying them off you :)
