    $0.01699/gram.

    Compared to $0.01733/gram at Coles latest special price.

    Aldi marketing team are masters at tricking people into think their prices are amazing when there’s generally very little difference.

    This is a good price. But Coles and Woolworth also have similar good prices if you buy specials (even more so when you combine with Everyday Rewards/Flybuys and petrol vouchers). Plus the bonus of not having to shop at Aldi and all the BS that comes with that experience.

      That's some unusual unit pricing.

      Have you got a link to Coles cashews for $17.33 / kg? Not coming up for me. Maybe it's state-based pricing…

        The last Coles cashew deal was $13 for 750g, so $17.33/kg is correct.

        • Ok, so not current then.

            @pennypacker: Point is Aldi's special price is basically the same as Coles and Woolworths special price. Another example of there being nothing special about Aldi (besides being an absolutely backwards shopping experience).

      Aldi's marketing team is irrelevant, the children they've employed to mark up products blindly based on sales numbers are their downfall. If the special buy isn't, there's no reason to go to aldi.

      • If the special buy isn't, there's no reason to go to aldi.

        Disagree, many of their regular prices beat Coles and Woolworths. However lately I have started checking everything, as Aldi are sometimes more expensive, particularly in the fruit and vege section. Not as many fruit and vege varieties as Coles and Woolies either.

        Does anyone use Frugl or a similar price comparison app? How good are they?

        • They “beat” ColesWorth prices if you’re comparing Aldi prices to brand name prices.

          The fair comparison is to ColesWorth home brands, then there’s little difference.

          Once upon a time ColesWorth home brands sucked and Aldi was much better quality. But now days they’ve improved and both Aldi knock offs and ColesWorth home brands are basically on par.

            @PainToad:

            The fair comparison is to ColesWorth home brands, then there’s little difference.

            Not so. Here are some Items I regularly buy, and there is a difference, comparing only store brands:

            Crumpets 6-pack 300g

            Corn chips (different weights, so price per 100g used):

            High-protein yoghurt in 900g tub:

            Band-aid equivalents, 100 pack:

            But the other thing is, I used to buy these things at Coles and Woolworths, and they seem to hide them in difficult-to-find locations and artificially limit supply, so they'd regularly be out-of-stock, forcing me to buy more expensive brands. In particular, the crumpets used to move location frequently, and rarely were they near the branded crumpets. With Aldi, there are no competing brands they can force me to, so there's usually plenty of stock, and they're easy to find.

              @Russ: So very little price difference.

              Plus you're not factoring in:
              * 10% off shops via Everyday Rewards Extra and Mobile.
              * $10/off frequently from points.
              * Petrol savings.
              * The value of your time saved by having access to Click & Collect and Delivery which backwards Aldi doesn't do.

              In particular, the crumpets used to move location frequently, and rarely were they near the branded crumpets.

              Simple. Shop online.

              Except with Aldi there's a whole bunch of shit they don't sell at all. So you'll always end up having to go elsewhere anywhere. Yeah, really convenient.

              • @PainToad:

                10% off shops via Everyday Rewards Extra and Mobile.

                I save far more by not shopping at Woolworths. It may be just a Brisbane thing, but Woolies here are typically 10% more expensive for a lot of things. I've tried doing my weekly shopping at Woolies, unimpressed. And I'd have to pay about 4x as much as I currently pay for my mobile, so not a saving at all (my mobile expenses are under $7/month).

                $10/off frequently from points.

                The rate of return on those points is $10 per $2000 spent, or 0.5%. From the prices above, I'm saving 5% to 10% by doing most of my shopping at Aldi.

                Petrol savings.

                Nope. Most major shopping centres in Brisbane have Aldi and one of the other two. Lutwyche shopping centre, for example, has all three, on the same floor, about a 1-minute walk between them.

                The value of your time saved by having access to Click & Collect and Delivery

                I tried that once, and had several unsuitable "substitutions". Then you've got to return them to the store, which takes longer. And I would still go into the shops anyway, for the newsagent and chemist (which won't bring your orders out to your car).

                Except with Aldi there's a whole bunch of shit they don't sell at all.

                Same answer as for petrol savings. Aldi are frequently co-located with either Coles or Woolies, and sometimes all three are close together. So I can shop at both, and get the best of both worlds - good prices at Aldi, and wider range at Coles or Woolworths.

                  Many boosts that get there much quicker for less. Look in the app.

                  So basically you're admitting you can't rely on just Aldi. Not sure how people support a half arsed grocery store that can't even provide a complete shop. I don't like Woolworths and Coles but the alternative needs to be at least as good, not a half arsed shop.

                  I tried that once, and had several unsuitable "substitutions".

                  Easy solution. Uncheck that you want substitutions. Or add a comment telling them what substitutions you're happy with.

                  Then you've got to return them to the store, which takes longer.

                  Not true at all. Talk to the bot in the app and it processes refunds without question.

                    Stop moving the goal posts. I never said I only shop at Aldi, and in the very first comment I said I compare prices.

                    If Aldi had much bigger stores, they'd be paying much bigger rents. Which would make their prices go up, and then they wouldn't be competitive.

    Um why in 12 days? I was at Aldi yesterday and the cashews are already at this price in the middle aisle.

    • Thanks. Will update post.
