Awesome I've been waiting for a discount on half strength, and this has come just in time - I was nearly running out. Thanks Lime Blue.

    • @greenslade from your experience are they really worth the price? I've gone decaf recently, done a bit of a benchmark from coffee enthusiasts forums and narrowed it down to a few brands to try. With the 40% off these guys are more or less matching the full price of the brands I identified, so it seems a bit expensive based on the research I've done. But if their decaf is amazing I might add it to my list.

The LB decaf is a darker roast with a good, robust flavour which I find works really well in a milk-based coffee. I’ve tried it black, both espresso and stovetop, and find it’s a little too strong & bitter for my tastes. But, if you mostly use milk then this is far better than most others from roasters who think decaf = wimpy. Get a 500g bag to start, even if you have to pay shipping, to try it out then when the next deal drops you’ll know whether to spring for it again.

Morning @Chazzozz really appreciate the helpful chime in, as always great idea!

Ironically our Decaf is one of our lightest roasts relatively speaking, the colour of the beans just looks close to black due to the Swiss Water Decaf Process changing the colour of the beans before we roast them. Part of the SWP Decaf process is to submerge the beans into 70°C water, this temperature submersion initiates a chemical reaction which becomes the Malliard reaction once roasted (it's the same chemical reaction that turns a steak from red/pink to brown when cooked). Our Decaf has an overall flavour similar to sweet malt chocolate milkshake. I understand personal flavour preference is quite subjective, so no stress if it's not your cup of tea (coffee) black, but it shouldn't be overly bitter. Due to the uniqueness of the process you'll need a notably different grind size for extraction, so if you haven't needed to change your grind setting compared to caf coffees or you want to go over the extraction with me in a bit more detail, please feel welcome to send a reply email to your most recent order confirmation containing decaf :)

        • Thanks @Chazzozz sounds similar to the one I'm drinking at the moment. And yes I do use a fair bit of milk. I'd say half / half, and it works well. I might include this one in my decaf discovery journey.

      • @Sebajun What are the best decaf you have tried? I'm interested in exploring more decaf options

        • +1

I've just started decaf a few weeks ago. So it's really early days. At the moment I'm drinking Decaf Co's Dark Knight and I'm liking it though I don't have much to compare it with. I paid 70 bucks for two bags of 1kg using a 10% off intro offer they run + free delivery. Other brands that were recommended on those forums: Artisan's Blend, Code Black Coffee and Wood and Co Coffee.

        • +1

Give Sicilia Coffee a go, we started our decaf journey a few years ago and even though their decaf are not as smooth as LimeBlue, it's so much cheaper than other rosters that you don't have much to lose.

        Hi @Sebajun,
When I checked online, all the decaf brands are in similar range $35-$40 per kg at least if not more.
Just curious to know what are the decaf options you have found based on your research that are cheaper than this range?

        • Indeed, but this is their full price. With this deal it's $35 with 40% off so basically I would never buy this brand full price.

          • @Sebajun: I'm seeing $39.30 for decaf. How are you getting $35? Is there a special code?

            • +1

@safwanc: Which one are you look at @safwanc? I'm referring to Lime Blue Coffee's deal here.

My point is they're doing 40% off, so it seems like a great bargain but because their full price is quite higher than other coffee roasters (at least those I've seen), the discount is only bringing the price to around (or slightly below) what is a normal price from other brands for the same weight. Which is why I asked greenslade if the superior quality justifies the higher price, otherwise it's not really a good deal.

      • I also found the half strength pretty good. Means I can drink more coffee during the day without my body freaking out. However the other coffee drinker in the house didn't like missing out on the buzz of full strength coffee. So we went back to full strength SOs!

        • One coffee already gives me heart palpitations (I have a condition), so yes, I love being able to enjoy a coffee (or two!) without that uncomfortable feeling!

      • getting good quality decaf beans is hard - none of the supermarkets have anything decent, and I didn't like my local roasters decaf. I tried Inglewood and Lime Blue and I'm happy with the latter. Inglewood's was dishwatery. Lime Blue's is pretty good.

I actually don't generally drink the decaf on its own. I drink half-strength because I love coffee but I'm caffeine sensitive and prefer to spread it out over the morning rather than having one strong cup. I like a well-bodied chocolatey cup, usually french press with cream. The Brazil half-strength blended with the SW Decaf is totally delicious. I also like the Peru Chanchamayo half-strength as well for a change, it's a little lighter on the palette but also fantastic. I wasn't such a fan of the Moments to Memories half strength, don't know why.

LB is also correct - you definitely need to adjust your grind settings for the decaf. I use a Kingrinder K6 handgrinder for precision and have dialled in the half strength perfectly now, btu the decaf and the full strength beans grind totally differently - you can see it with your own eyes.

    • Morning @greenslade amazing, always love it when timing lines up nicely!

Thank you so much for another terrific order, it really does mean a lot :)

As someone that has had dozens of bags of the Brazil SO, these prices seem to be creeping up quite a bit, postage threshold too. I think I was buying 3 bags for about 75-78 bucks or something like that?. I also notice the 5% off gift cards deal too. I love the coffee, but too many hoops, deal spam and price fluctuations.

    • +4

Yea $99 for the free shipping or $7 otherwise - unless you buy bulk to share I would rather just grab a bag from Aldi.

      • With the cost of living, I've cut back coffee consumption and will now just grab a bag from ALDI too

        • If only aldi did decaf beans.

          • +1
            • @Murpha: Decaf have a shorter shelf-life than normal beans, you don't want to keep them around more than about 3 weeks.

    • +3

Coffee prices are going up globally, and so is shipping. This is affecting all coffee bean roasters, as well as a cup at every cafe. LB have been very transparent about their increasing costs a how they've tried to absorb as much as they can without passing onto the customer, but at the end of the day they need to run a viable business. The reality is their prices probably could've gone up sooner if they weren't trying so hard to buffer the retail pricing.
Personally I love the "deal spam" as you put it. Means I can time my coffee purchases when the pricing is cheaper.

    • +1

I've been with Limeblue for maybe 2 years now (moving over from Airjo), but the last order that forced me to get 4 bags to get to the 99 for free shipping is the last straw. I'll be moving also to Aldi for now until maybe another business on here can offer more reasonably priced coffee shipped.

      • +1

Hey @ranma I appreciate the candour, thank you for two years of orders, they really did mean a lot and weren't taken for granted!!!

Our site doesn't force $99 orders, was there a tech glitch you experienced? If there was can you please send a reply email to your order confirmation detailing the tech glitch so I can look into it ASAP for you :)

I know shipping is never fun to pay, $6.99 is a subsidised rate if it's of any comfort, so on average shipping costs up more than customers pay. I'm guessing you missed the transparent heads up deal we posted towards the end of last year,. That deal outlined the reason that we needed to increase the free shipping threshold (as it's not viable to operate a business at a loss…) yet at the same time we did reduce the flat rate paid shipping cost for customers, so the change went both ways. The deal also provided everyone with the opportunity to lock in coffee as far into the future as the end of June this year before the free shipping threshold increased.

It's a real shame that you've left us, but I understand you need to do what feels right for you. I'm sure there's other cheaper options out there, especially given some large companies view coffee as a loss leader (draw card to the store sold at a loss to make money on selling nearby products in the store). However, can only do what we can do with the resources we have, which is why we just try to do the best we can do rather than trying to compete with others and our focus is on value for money.

Hey @Blu wonderful to know you love our coffee, thank you so much for your orders and that terrific compliment!

That pricing at a 40% discount for Brazil would have been a couple of years about early/mid 2024 and a lot has changed with coffee prices since that time. I acknowledge our prices have gone up, but it was necessary as a direct response for the cost increases we've experienced. If it's of any comfort we didn't pass on the full cost increases we've experienced, so make less per kg now with slightly higher prices than we did in 2024 with slightly lower prices. I know price increases are never welcomed with open arms, but we've done our very best to soften the blow for customers :)

    • -1

That's what non-commodity coffee costs. Climate change is making it harder for producers to have consistent crops. I'm pretty sure even ALDI coffee has gone up quite a lot (comparatively to its old price anyway).

  • -2

    Meh 🥱

  • I ordered the Inglewood Decaf in Nov and absolutely loved it. With their 50% off, it turned out to be $36 per kg. I haven't tried LB yet. Has anybody tried both Inglewood and LB, any thoughts?

    • -5

      Yeah go buy Aldi beans.

      • +1

@Wiadro Aldi doesn't have decaf beans

    • +3

LimeBlue is our family favourite, but if we run out and there is no discount for Decaf with LB, our go to is Sicilia Coffee. They used to have a presence on OzBargain a few years back but haven't posted in a while. Their prices haven't changed much and they are always offering low prices without random discounts. I don't notice much difference between their 3 decafs (Organic, Forte, Normal), but my father in law loves the forte.

We didn't like Inglewood and they had messed up our order (to be fair their customer service on Facebook was quite good and were quick to send replacement bags and we ended up with way too much coffee, especially since we didn't like it much).

    • Personally I think both are fine but I prefer Lime Blue decaf (see my post above) although I generally drink the half strength which is a 50:50 blend of their decaf with another coffee. I like a full bodied, chocolatey decaf and LB nails it.

  • Any bean recommendation for long black? Thanks in advance

    • Hey @darkeagle appreciate you reaching out with the opportunity!

We've got a few that come to mind, so it really comes down to your personal flavour preference. If you could answer the below I'll be able to point you in the right direction :)
      1) Preference for chocolate, caramel, fruity or a combo of flavours?
      2) High, medium or low acidity kick?

      • Thanks for responding. I am new to beans as i have been a Nespresso user.
Please suggest for the below profile:
        1) medium roasted, combination of flavours and medium acidity.

  • +1

Grab two from Drip because the shipping threshold is lower

  • The prices are going up, Lime blue is still pretty cheap for the freshly roasted coffee taste, but yes, I've had to decide to forgo and go back to the freshest Aldi SO I can find as very $ counts, and now treat myself when the price is low enough that I can justify the extra. Nothing against Lime Blue, these guys do a great job, but everything is going up so indulgences are the first domino that has to fall.

  • Have been with limeblue for a while now and last few orders, have switched to decaf. Was looking for alternatives considering the increasing prices and higher free shipping threshold and came across inglewood who offer free shipping for $75 and have a 40% off going on as well.

Anyone who has tried both care to comment if there is any noticeable difference in the decaf beans for milk based coffees?

    • Both are good.
I prefer Lime Blue myself but depending on the discount, I'd happily buy either.
I generally buy the half strength instead, theLB Brazil SO is fantastic with the decaf.
However, with Inglewood I tried mixing their decaf and Downtown to make my own half-strength blend - yuck, big mistake, totally different flavour profiles that made it taste awful. However, the decaf on its own was very nice.

Also with lime blue's 5% of gift cards, it's the price winner.

  • What's your best bean for espresso used to make strong flat white? ATM I get Merlo espresso beans.

    • Hey @brisneylander really appreciate you taking the time to reach out with this opportunity!

You're in luck as all of our option featured in this deal cut through milk exceptionally well. To put the differences in a nutshell for you, our Brazil is sweet chocolatey, Moments to Memories caramel and chocolate and our SWP Decaf is like a strong sweet malt chocolate milkshake :)

  • Please add a ground option, rather than beans only.

  • ok I have decided it's time to try your coffee. let's see!

    • Amazing to hear @shabaka music to my ears :)

Thank you so much for placing your first fantastic order with us, it's truly appreciated and an opportunity I promise we won't take for granted!

  • Bought 3 kg Brazilian , loving it.

    • WOOHOO @Kooratz for that absolutely outstanding order!!!

Thank you so much, it's truly appreciated :)

  • +3

Have been loving the Brazil São Paulo with milk.
Opposite to many comments, and very un-ozbargain like, I've moved back from the Aldi beans to Lime Blue beans.
84c vs 54c for a shot of coffee (based off 1 kg bag + shipping) isn't too bad considering shops charging $6 + card surcharge for a doubleshot flat white.
30c extra to support a small oz business instead of sending your money to Germany

    • Won’t somebody PLEASE think of the Germans?!?!

  • It used to be $75 for free shipping. Now you increased it.
Those who need fewer packs are forced out to look at other options. Freezing option is not for everyone.
Please cosider lowering the free shipping treshhold.

    • Hey @Wiser frank feedback is important to us and not something we take lightly, so thank you for taking the time to share your constructive thoughts!

I completely appreciate not everyone wants to order larger quantities and not everyone has room to freeze they're coffee, which is why our customers can generally orders just 500g at a time should they prefer to. As mentioned above as far as I'm aware "our site doesn't force $99 orders, was there a tech glitch you experienced? If there was can you please send a reply email to your order confirmation detailing the tech glitch so I can look into it ASAP for you :)"

"I know shipping is never fun to pay, $6.99 is a subsidised rate if it's of any comfort, so on average shipping costs up more than customers pay. It was a really tough decision for us to raise the free shipping threshold knowing not everyone would welcome the change. That said, I knew it would be tougher to go out of business several months from now knowing we could have made a change to avoid catastrophe, but in the moment we made the easier decision to avoid change friction. One of the most important aspects of my role is to look to the future and make pre-emptive decisions to ensure Lime Blue Coffee survives (and hopefully thrives), while maintain our high quality for money model. It's that approach that has enabled us to get to where we are today and without which we would have gone out of business years ago. We can only do what we can do with the resources we have, which is why we just try to do the best we can do rather than trying to compete with others and our focus is on value for money :)
