I did my Samsung S20 FE last year & the battery cost me $19 from Aliexpress. Obviously it wasn't a Samsung original but it gives you an idea of the mark up.
@WatchNerd: The battery cost is about $70, the resealing kit about the same. Most 3rd party kiosks etc charge around $200 with no guarantee of water resistance and use inferior batteries, so considering the replacement cost is over $1500 I consider it a good investment.
I've swapped batteries on many sealed devices and would have no hesitation on trying it on a cheap phone but the risk is not worth the minimal savings on a mint condition flagship I plan on keeping for another 2 or 3 years.

With the last Amaysim A36 deal I purchased a $12 esim online, activated that in my Motorola phone, then purchased the A36 straight away, all good, I just turned off Auto-recharge on the Amaysim account so it didn't renew..

@Koalabeer: A cheap Motorola G54, I only bought it as a backup/spare for travelling (because I was expecting my Poco X3 Pro to die) and for eSIM hotspot use (Amasim were doing real good deals on 120gb SIMs at the time, they were handy when I was on the road because I was uploading a huge amount of footage to Youtube)…
I've never really used it as a daily phone, just as a hotspot, and for running GPS/mapping apps with it mounted on the bars of my motorbike out in the Simpson Desert, up Cape York, and such, and hiking/boat use, it did the job ok…
I've never been a fan of it, I couldn't see myself using it as a daily phone, it feels very clunky compared to my old Poco and the A36 and it had a lot of bloatware… I also managed to crack the screen just changing the sim card, I didn't drop it or anything, not sure what happened, either way it seems fragile…
Amaysim have good customer service. I also got the A36 in previous deal. I called them because I needed help and they walked me through the whole process.

That had me worried because this phone is XSA/-/XSA/OPS, but I borrowed a friends Telstra SIM when we had no land based reception, it instantly connected to "Telstra SpaceX" and I sent a handful of messages back and forth with another friend, all good, they say there can be a delay in sending and receiving messages but it seemed to be instant for me…. It seems voice and data via SpaceX will be a year or so away, I think they're just working on getting enough satellites up there to be able to do it.. .. Once my current Boost 12-month sim expired I'll bite the bullet and get a Tel$tra account…

I got one in that last deal too. The only thing I don't like is the camera, the picture quality is sometime lacking, especially when zooming in. Other than that, it's a good phone.

From memory, most recent generation Galaxy A series phones have virtual proximity sensors, which are generally regarded as worse than having actual proximity sensors.
Essentially they use other sensors like the gyro to try and "guess" when you're holding your phone up to your ear, with predictably mixed results.
If the guess is incorrect, your phone's screen could turn off during a call even if you're not holding your phone up to your ear.
Make sure this is not a deal breaker to you.

@wildstone: Yeah, it's an interesting Q. Comparisons suggest the Exynos 1580 is clearly the better choice for gaming graphics capability. If you aren't gaming that's not a relevant factor, so it would be money wasted. The speed difference between the two phones on YouTube comparisons seems negligible, like a fraction of a second to load some apps.
The SnapDragon 6 gen 3 chip is marginally slower at most everyday tasks. However This site suggests the SnapDragon is actually better.
SnapDragon chips used to be more power efficient, cooler and had additional features such as SnapDragon Sound (eg AptX etc).
I don't know how true that is with the latest generation.

Tempted to upgrade mum's phone with this. She's got a Nokia 8.3 that no longer gets updates and has issues with Amaysim roaming.
Dad had the same Amaysim roaming issues when he was using the Nokia 8.3 and it went away when he switched to a Samsung A55. Plus he has the option of an esim which I'd like mum's phone to also have.

I was previously having a look at the A36 over xmas but at $449, it did not look like a good deal. $299, especially if she ends up using the phone for the next 7yrs, will be a good return on investment. Hopefully the specs will be good for future iterations of Android.
