Recommendations for Language App for Learning German

I am heading to Germany in May for a holiday.

I thought I would brush up on my year 8 high school German language skills , which I haven’t used in nearly 30 years.

I just want to be able to speak some basic German so I can at least try speaking it before the person I am talking to gets frustrated and says in perfect English “just speak English”

I studied Italian briefly at uni and learnt Japanese whilst living in Japan.

So languages aren’t a foreign concept (word play)

What would people recommend as a decent language learning app?

What apps were helpful for learning/brushing up on German?

What's an international version of Tinder?

Seriously, talk to real live person. Won't be restricted to formal usage either, learning modern vernacular in common usage.

    • whilst that is very true (talking to a real person), I am quite time poor . and I live in brisbane.

and I am going to German with my partner.

      • Don't you talk to them on line over face time? Idk, never used them, but just thought easier with in person. (And free?)

I wasn't meaning you hook up with them, just chat online lol.

I didn't find Duolingo helpful at all. Better in person..

Just remembered Udemy sometimes has language courses.
