Hi all,

Just ordered one of these after I noticed it has a promo for 5% off when you order 2 items.

Before everyone starts flaming about thats an expensive B850 board bro…. cool story this is good for those that want remote management as it has IPMI and ECC memory support so great for servers or workstations.

This was sold at PCCASEGEAR also for $699 before it sold out, this board seems to be sold most places like BHVideo etc except amazon..?

I ordered these 2 to get the discount:

There is another book but figured this one would be better can give to someone that believes this stuff so paper not wasted.

These are OLED monitor prices or PS5 prices.

    Tell em' they're dreaming

it's a workstation/server board, not gaming orientated. It's a bit of a weird segment but getting IPMI and ECC at this price isn't a bad deal, just not for everyone.

Now try finding RAM for it.

    • +1

Clearly not playing 6D chess, you already have the ram 😉. Otherwise I got news for you any bit of hardware is now useless because all tech needs memory. If youre rich you can still local compute but if your one of the poors looks like you'll be using a web browser and getting chatgpt to do it with a subscription. Thats the whole ram shortage in a nut shell.

What’s Plex transcoding like on Ryzen CPUs these days? How does it comepare to Intel QSV?

      • bit off topic… i have no idea.. i would guess intel and nvidia are still the ones to go for with plex. AMD support is lacking. Plex developers haven't even bothered to test it. Support is "as is" according to them.

Cheers. I was looking at modern boards that support ECC but this was the dealbreaker. I didn’t want to give a slot up for a graphics card plus Intels power consumption at idle was better. I was looking at 12th Gen due to the longevity issues of the later processors.

          • @TightLikeThisx: 12th gen plex server is the go and DDR4 is cheaper. :) for gaming AMD is the better option as it uses less power under load..

Also i have some 54w 12th gen 12100 CPU's at the office they run hot and dont really use less power at idle VS the 7500F CPU's we have. Maybe due to iGPU .. 7500F doesnt have a working iGPU

Expensive bible but at least you get a free motherboard with it.

nice, its got IPMI and 10G, shame its mATX, wouldve loved more lanes, but its fine for lowkey home server. i guess a HBA and a nvidia GPU low profile for transcoding.

    • +1

Yeah I'm putting it in a 1U chassis to put in a datacenter with a Intel B50 Pro and some Optane.

      • B50 pro is a 2u card just so your aware, you will prolly have to mount it sideways(assuming you have a riser) and might cut off the other pcie.

  • Christ the Redeemer approves

    • Dumb comment lol, clearly doesnt read the deal ay. Must be one of the young generation attention spans and all that…
