Logitech G PRO Racing Wheel for PC $998 + Delivery ($0 NSW C&C/ in-Store) @ The Gamesmen

120

I was looking into Wheel bases and noticed this -45% off RRP offer at gamesman. Not the base I'm looking for but appears to be a deal.

  • I dont the clamp works with my desk. What diff between this and a belt driven g293? Just more powerful feedback?

      • You have serious anger management issues. Go get your head checked.

Big difference. 3.2nm gear driven vs 11nm direct drive. Gear driven is the 20 year old system. Clunky. Noisy. Slower. Direct drive is silent and instant torque. 11nm is medium to lower in terms of other wheel bases but for this price it is interesting. Rrp is overpriced.. Logitech isn't necessarily bad these days but they're probably the last brand id consider for a direct drive wheel base with very limited wheels and limited partnerships (if that's a consideration for you).

That rrp is ridiculous btw. For $1700 you can now get the fanatec podium dd which is 35nm peak (25nm continuous) - makes this looks like a toy and has a way more established ecosystem. Stronger not necessarily better though, most serious people run about 10-13 continuous nms (13- 16 peak) to get more detail from their force feedback. More is not necessarily better but a matter of preference and it gives you the option to simulate more types of cars more realistically.

If you're desk driven then for more than 8nm - you'd need a pretty solid desk. These forces are getting up there. I remember going from 3.2 to 5nm was a massive jump initially!

Thanks for the comment below - yes the G923 is gear not belt driven and it can be quite loud and rattle around!

Direct Drive wheel bases will often have higher torque, but also smoother feeling force feedback compared to gear or belt driven wheels which will allow for more detail in the FFB effects. There is nothing necessarily wrong with belt drive wheels, it just depends how far you want to go with the hobby. Unless you already have a good set of pedals, a decent shifter and a good cockpit, it is probably worth spending elsewhere for bigger improvements

Also, the G293 is gear drive, not belt drive, so is even less smooth / detailed than belt driven wheel bases

      • thanks.

If you just want to get in with an entry level wheel and dont intend on spending thousands, you cant go wrong with the G29
The expensive wheels are far nicer to use, especially the pedals, and the logitech shifter isnt great, but if you just want something to use occasionally without breaking the bank, the G29 is great

          • @DanielP2: have the G293. clamp needs constant adjusting. as well as the manual gear shifter… clamps on a wooden Ikea desk.

@DanielP2: Personally, I have only ever recommend the G29 for people on the second hand market or for someone chasing older console compatibility. The new price is outrageous compared to what is on offer from some of the Chinese brands.

Pedals < Rig < Wheelbase < immersion (including shifter) — ref I have built and installed mid to high end sim rigs professionally

Totally agree with @DanielP2 If you're not sure you can also always buy a used g29 on Facebook marketplaces for $200-$250 and try it. If you don't love it you can pretty easily sell it for the same price to others. They're also nearly bulletproof so long as they have the original wheel on them still.

I bought the RS50 recently and can wholeheartedly recommend both the Logitech SW and their Direct Drive wheels.

I'd say this is discounted as old stock and not being supported by PS5.

I'm loving my first PS Wheel, GT7 is awesome with the RS50. Fewer nm than the Pro, but much more flexible.

    • As long as you're happy that's that matters! Enjoy!

  • I just got the Playstation version second hand. I upgraded from G923. It is much stronger, night and day. I definetly recommend if you have the time to play. I've been playing Gran Turismo 7. It is fun.
