These are Arctic's new line of fans. Reviews indicate that noctua fans will outperform these at the high end RPMs. Assuming you cap your RPM at 80%, these are great value and perform amazing.

    NOISY

    edit;
    source: trust me bro

    • +11

User error. Any 3k rpm is noisy. Using fan control to tweak it to sub 1.5k makes this quieter than anything else.

Trust me bro: I have 3.

      • +11

        Agree, skill issue.
Fan control, good mix curve, set to max out around 2200rpm. Great performance!

Trust me bro: I have 24.

        • +5

          Does your case levitate?

      • To be fair the Arctic fans are known to be noisy at 1000rpm. Whether that's a hum or a bit more depends on the person. Either way no where near as bad as the EVGA stock fans I used to run on my AIO until I swapped over for Arctic P12. Those topped the AIO noise charts.

        • That's the older non-Pro versions. They fixed it on these as well as improving the performance.

          • +1

@r3load3d: Ah I wasn't aware of that. In other words I need to upgrade to the Pro haha

    • Has that annoying whine when dialed down, I agree

    • +1

You don't know noisy until you put a 200cfm 65dBA Delta in your gaming PC

Source: 14yo me being a sucker for punishment

  • I got 6 fans in my pc and my gpu still hitting over 80 degrees average and 105 hotspot. Do I need better fans? or repaste GPU?

    • Modern GPU and CPU chips are rated around 100c and will auto throttle down to avoid damage - if your performance isn't dropping away at max temps, then it's fine, don't worry about it 👍

      • -1

yea but it still can spike to 110 and stay at 100c for long periods of time. probably destroying the longevity of the card. Shoulda got the 3 fan version.

        • +1

Set a power limit and adjust fan curves

    • +1

      PTM7950 and undervolt if possible.

    • +1

Just to be sure what case do you have and what's the direction of air flow? i.e. front fans are intake with top/rear exhaust?

      • I got a fractal design focus 2, its full mesh on the front. 3 120mm fans on the front 2 exhaust 140mm on the top and one 120mm exhaust on the rear. I actually only had the two 140mm at the front and 1 fan exhaust but I bought 3 additional fans recently and it didn't make a single difference to the temps :(

        • +1

That setup sounds fine and you could try removing the top exhaust fan to see if it makes a difference, though it would likely be minimal. I suspect that you're right about the GPU needing repasting. You could try a 50-100mv undervolt in MSI Afterburner and seeing if the temperature improves. That would help confirm if it's dried paste or an uneven cooler making contact rather than airflow/fans.

        • Have you tried putting the top front fan as an intake instead? There's a chance that the fan at the front of the top is pulling out the cooler air before it even gets to your GPU/CPU. I believe there was a study on the Fractal North case about setting it up that way

      • best is to have more intake than exhaust as it brings less dust in due to positive pressure

        • +1

Yep. Unless you're BPC Technology who for a very long time were shipping PCs with fans/coolers mounted on the front set to exhaust with a single fan on the rear set to exhaust too. No intake whatsoever.

    • does sound like the thermal paste pumped out with that high a hotspot difference

    • +2

If you've had your GPU for more than a couple years then repasting is worth trying out. My mate was in a similar situation, turns out his GPU's paste was all crusty. One repaste later the hotspot temps dropped by 30 degrees.

      • Sounds like my experience last month.

May be worth checking what size / thickness thermal pads you will need should they need replacing too. Hadn't planned doing mine but when I separated the cooler the thicker pads around the die had started to perish and broke apart.

    • What cooler are you running on it? (and CPU?)

and how are the fans configured? More fans doesn't always mean better cooling!

      • gpu has pny dual fan, cpu has cooler master air cooler, 3 intake, 2 exhaust on top, one exhaust on back

    • Repaste GPU bro

  • Does anyone know a reliable way to hook up fans so you can auto throttle them on temp BUT you have to piggy back them off each other or I don't know use a PCIE expansion card to attach the fans to? My mobo has very little connectors for the fans. It sucks. And I live in an old queenslander without aircon in well qld. It doesn't like it :(

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mobo is MSI B460M Pro-VDH Wifi I basically want to buy this 5 pack of fans and run them all in my case.

    • +1

These are PST fans which means you can daisy chain them together. Plug fan 1 into SYS_FAN1, plug fan 2 into fan 1, fan 3 into fan 2 and so on. They'll all spin at the same speed and auto throttle based on temperature etc.

      • Thanks. Do you know how many of these fans you can daisy chain? (just googled daisy chain, love that phrase)

        • +1

Typically it's recommended to have 5 per motherboard header, as many motherboards will have a 1A limit and these will draw around 0.15A each. You could possibly run 6-8 without using another header or hub, but it may be pushing it.

          • @Clear: sweet as ordering. Thanks man.

          • @Clear: Oh dang they sold out :(

            • @Minimalism: Bugger. I feel like I've seen these go on sale regularly for $59.

              • @Clear: yeah its exactly what I"m looking for. I'll wait then. If memory serves ozbargain has a 'auto ping' for specific terms or deals. I'll try and set that. Thanks so much clear. I appreciate your help

                • @Minimalism: You can get a pack of Thermalright TL-C12C for quite cheap which are daisy chained - if you get the RGB variant, the RGB connectors are also daisy chained.
Alternatively you can get a fan hub (~$10-20) that you can just plug regular/existing fans into.

                  • @skillywilly: Thanks man i'll look into that. Yeah don't care about RGB only temp control and silence'ish (plus the daisy chain option ;))

  • Looks like the deal has ended.

  • +1

    Says $89 for me

    • +1

Yep. Looks like we missed it… Dang

      • +1

same. ozbargain pig herd trampled through and wiped out the 10 they had at this price

        • Looks like it's back on the menu boys!

  • Wow that was quick. All gone :(

  • +2

seems to be back in stock again

  • are these good for an aio cooler/radiator ?
or is there something better ?

    • Yes, they are ideal for high-pressure applications, such as a radiator. There is no better bang for your buck. Noctua is a little better but much more expensive.

  • i pait about $100 for these not long ago.
