  • These seem to rate pretty highly, especially for the price. Do they have any good 5v models anyone can recommend?
Have a 48port switch that could use some better airflow, and I'm considering lid surgery.

if you have money get notcua, for value for money get Phanteks T30.

    • if you have money get notcua

Designed in Austria… Oi oi oi……….

    • Correct me if I’m wrong but from what I can see Phanteks T30 is similar in price to Noctua fans??

    • Another regurgitated opinion. Phanteks T30s are horrible value in Australia, same price as noctua. The new Noctua G2 however, are the best fans you can get. Same performance as T30 but way nicer sound profile. For actual budget pwm fan, Thermalright is my go to

    • I find the Thermaltake Toughfan's to be pretty good. Amazon sometimes discounts them.

  • Guys, would this be ok to use with a projector?

I have a UST projector that runs a bit hot, so thought maybe put one of these outside the projector to direct air into the vent and one on the other side to pull air out.

    Thoughts?

Bonus if there's a way I can power it from the projectors USB port so that it automatically turns on/off with the projector.

If a projector is running hot it might mean the internal fan has dust build up (or filter if one is present needs replacement). In theory putting fans in your suggested way might help drop temperatures a bit.

USB is limited to 5V and these fans are PWM based at 12V so assuming you get a step up transformer, I'm not sure what (if any) speed the fan would take on when no PWM signal is present. An alternative that I bought as a Christmas gift for a friend who had an amplifier that was getting quite toasty was these USB powered 3 speed fans (N12U04-AU) :

      • so assuming you get a step up transformer, I'm not sure what (if any) speed the fan would take on when no PWM signal is present

They'd run at max because they're getting the full 12V juice with no PWM signal to regulate them

      • Hey mate thanks for that amazon suggestion, I ended up buying that and using it for my projector.

Now I have another question! Do you think those fans are ok to be running full time for a few weeks? Reason - I'm going away on holidays so wanted to use those fans to keep my cctv switch / nvr cool while I'm gone (they are in the cupboard which can heat up in the summer sometimes, so I was thinking of keeping those fans going 24/7 for a month while I'm away…

        Thoughts?

I would just grab a USB fan if you need extra airflow. Most PC fans are 12v

  • Already over, price has being upped to 32bux.

chuck them on your solar inverter for extra efficiency.

Use a cheap ebay solar panel/. hard rubbish grab to drive it.

Had mine outside in the weather since 2018. Still going strong.

    • Any cheap solar panel recommendation? Thinking the same but can't find many option under 50, or did I have unrealistic expection on being "cheap"?

You don't need much. I have 3 old solar lights connected in series. Worked for a while, but kept on frosting/ going yellow and slowing down.
Found a panel someone chucked out. 18v 20w. Put 3 fans in series. Works well.

Used an IR gun to find hotspots on heatsink Fans pull air through in those spots (plus stop any leaves etc dropping on top)

  • Non PWM. But also quiet enough that most people won’t care when run at default fixed speed.
