Decent midranger, still 5 years of OS updates

I was looking at this phone for a while and saw it was reduced $550 at JB last week. Managed to snag it for $472.15 from Officeworks. New model due late Feb early March. Not a bad deal I paid $500 for A52s 5 years ago that's still going strong except for the battery.

I still feel the moto g75 is better minus the amoled , software support is good for both (hopefully Motorola)🤞

Samsung is slightly better regarding software support, but it all depends on the cost…

If Camera is important, Samsung is way way better

I'd grab A55 from Amaysim for $350 if it was still in stock :((

This is still more than 50% more than the very similar A36 5g via amaysim deal ($299 + $2 sim + $12 plan).

    • This phone is 33% faster in both single score and multi score and has 33% more memory. Though they might feel identical to use today, 2 or 3 years down the line after OS updates, the A36 might feel laggy. A36 is good for old folks, but if you dont want any lags for next few years, the a56 might be a better choice. I have the Poco X4 Pro 5G for my mum which has the similar single threaded score as A36 and it lags quite a bit. My 6 year old P30 pro feels much faster. Just a thought.

      • YouTube comparisons suggest there is not much in it, albeit slightly better hardware in the A56. I would say if you needed better performance than the A36 and had significantly more to spend, the A56 wouldn't be the one.

I do know what you mean though, and we have the real would case of the A33 and the A53 at our place. Purchase prices were similar around $300 and $490 at the time. The A56 is slightly quicker and takes slightly better photos, but after years of updates neither is a rocketship and battery degradation from constant use and fast charging means we will likely update both soon. I would happily buy the new model of either again but long story short the price difference does not reflect the performance difference. A3x remains better value for money.

        • I would not argue against real world experience of both phones since you have already used the earlier models of both. Though the CPUs of both of those A53 and A33 had identical single and multi-threaded score and both had 6 gigs of RAM, it differs with A36 and A56 by a 33% margin.

Also agree with A36 being the value king. However if I am buying a non-chinese android phone for use upto 4 or 5 years, the next step up above A56 would be the S series with a decent increase in cost and A56 IMO makes sense over A36 for slightly better lag free exprince. However if you use the shit out of phones and upgrade it in 2 or 3 years OR use them as work or backup phones, makes no difference I guess - again just guessing. Wonder if A56 will showup on amaysim with a further discount, if yes that would be good.
