This post is for my fellow ski or snowboard mates who bought this deal from Royal Brunei Airlines (RBA).
I am packing my gears and trying to bring less things so I leave more luggage space for shopping in Japan. Then I came across this new baggage policy fron Dec2025: 12kg extra allowance on sports equipments if you sign up as Royal Skies member, which is free - problem solved!
Please note there is clear terms stating that the whole 12kg allowances is only for sports gears. Airline staff will inspect your bag. (Not sure if ski jackets and bibs count? unlikely I guess)
Yes, RBA is a dry airline, but beers cost like water in Japan anyway :D
Hope this post helps, see ya' all in Japan!
Starting 1 December 2025, sporting equipment can be included as part of your free baggage allowance based on your class of travel. Royal Skies members are entitled to an additional 12 kg sporting equipment waiver per guest, no matter how many sporting items are checked in.
This waiver applies exclusively to Royal Skies members and is valid only on Royal Brunei (BI) operated flights. It cannot be combined with other waivers; if more than one waiver could apply, only the highest applicable waiver will be used.
More info from RBA'S website, see all FAQ here
Starting 1 December 2025, Royal Brunei (RB) defines sports equipment as gear used for recreation or competition. Eligible items up to a maximum of 12 kg typically include:
Golf equipment, Bicycle, Diving equipment, Cricket equipment, Surfboards and surfing gear, Snow or water ski equipment, Bowling balls, Angling (fishing) equipment, Non-motorised bicycles
Your equipment must be packed in a hard case, box, or a padded protective case designed for travel. Items packed in plastic bags or soft, non-padded cases will not be accepted.
The sports equipment allowance is separate and cannot be combined with your regular baggage allowance. Please ensure only sports equipment is packed within this allowance.

Are they flying AUS direct to Japan?
