[PC, Steam] Kingdom Come: Deliverance Royal Edition $11.99 (80% off) @ Steam

400

About the Package: Royal Edition contains award-winning Kingdom Come: Deliverance and all released DLCs

FYI - this is the first game & I'd recommend playing Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 first (if you are new to the series).

Kingdom Come: Deliverance

You're Henry, the son of a blacksmith. Thrust into a raging civil war, you watch helplessly as invaders storm your village and slaughter your friends and family. Narrowly escaping the brutal attack, you grab your sword to fight back. Avenge the death of your parents and help repel the invading forces!

Treasures of the Past
Treasure maps of the lords banished by King Sigismund of Hungary, leading to the hidden treasures of those patriots, bandits and schemers.

From the Ashes
As a newly appointed bailiff, you must decide what buildings to erect and what people to bring in, and you must also settle disputes between the villagers. Each building is unique and comes with its own upgrades, material and labour requirements, so you will face some difficult decisions.

The Amorous Adventures of Bold Sir Hans Capon
The quest DLC revolves around his attempts to woo the fairest maid he has ever set eyes upon, and his success will not depend only on his own mastery of the art of love – it’s also up to his trusty wingman, you - Henry, to ensure that The Amorous Adventures of Bold Sir Hans Capon come to a happy end!

Band of Bastards
Kingdom Come: Deliverance's third DLC focuses on combat and minor skirmishes. Sir Radzig's old enemies are pillaging his estates, so he enlists the help of an old acquaintance, Kuno of Rychwald, the leader of an infamous mercenary band. Naturally, they need a guide, and who better for the job than Henry?

Woman's Lot
Armed with fortitude and dignity, she faces the coming days with a smile on her lips. And since God moves in mysterious ways, none of us can know the lot we shall have to bear. But it is often those of whom we least expect it who encounter an extraordinary destiny…

I found this game way too slow, maybe i was missing something

    • +2

Yeah. It's rough and does a poor job of leading/helping the player through it.

    • +7

I think that's part of the point. It basically creates more of a range, so the boring bits are very tedious, but then the exciting bits are exhilarating.

    • +2

It starts slow because you're just a peasant and snowballs. Very similar pace to breaking bad which unfortunately might make it lose some players.

    • More cores

  • Why do you recommend playing 2 first?

KCD1 was ambitious but rough, unforgiving, and mechanically uneven (even with the latest update).

KCD2 feels like the fully realized version of that original vision and is brilliant.. .

Both are good in their own way but:

KCD1 lock-on enemy system often fights the player. Early combat is extremely unforgiving, sometimes feeling unfair rather than “realistic.”

KCD2 refines combat flow, responsiveness, and enemy readability.

KCD1 explains very little, even for core systems (combat, alchemy, stealth).

KCD2 offers better tutorials and smoother progression without sacrificing realism.

KCD1 bugs + long stretches without saves caused lost progress. Felt like artificial difficulty rather than immersion.

KCD2 is more forgiving while keeping tension.

KCD1 has quest bugs, NPCs behaving oddly, some quests are still entirely broken with newest update.

KCD2 launched far more polished and stable.

KCD1 ludicrous grinding (training, money, gear) is tedious.

KCD2 balances realism with stronger narrative momentum (with a better story/stories woven into it).

I was going to ask the same question. Thanks for the detailed reply!

Would definitely recommend playing KCD1 first… you're missing so much of the story otherwise

@CrispyChrispy: But how many people are going to get turned off by KCD1 and never make it to 2? I think it's much the same as Witcher 3 - sure, it's good to have played the earlier games but (TW1 especially) they're such rough going that most non-hardcore players are better off just starting with "the good one" and picking up the story along the way.

@Imari: KCD1 feels rough in comparison to KCD2, but it's still a very good game. I totally get what you mean when it comes to the Witcher games, but KCD1 is a 2018 game, it's only janky in that its combat system was practically a first for its time and is quite in depth.

      • Is it still as buggy like at launch? I thought they fixed it.

        • Played this during Chrissy; had problems with quests not progressing normally and used the console to get things going again.

Depends on how much time you have.

If you skip 1, you'll miss most the the character building, especially between Henry and Hans. The actual story you can just watch a cutscene supercut and its fine though.

Both are fantastic games, but depends if you enjoy this unique style of immersive RPG - these two are the best examples of the genre since Morrowind.

Playing KCD2 first is a huge mistake imo.
KCD2 improves on KCD1 in literally every way, you wont appreciate the huge changes if you never played KCD1.
Trying to play KCD1 after experiencing KCD2 would be awful.
Not to mention its a direct sequel, so you won't know or appreciate the 50 hours of character development of Henry and his pals in KCD1.

    • +2

Not sure calling this game awful compared to the new one is that much of a ringing endorsement. Sounds like it should be skipped entirely

      • +4

thats not what i meant at all, sorry if it came across that way.
I played through KCD1 when it was free on EGS about a year ago and loved it. Story, characters, world, it was all amazing. But a lot of the movement/mechanics/systems were very janky. Once you got used to them it was good though.
KCD2 just improved on literally every system in the game, so going backwards through the series would feel horrible.

By skipping KCD1 you miss out on so many key things - going from a peasant to a respectable person, learning to read (genuinely funny), Henry's familys story, Hans' character arc, Henry and Hans' genuine friendship, etc

        • just read this and I'm 40 hours into trosky on kcd2 without playing kcd1………..

  • +3

"The Amorous Adventures of Bold Sir Hans Capon" DLC in KCD1 is one of the best quest lines in both games (it occurs after msq). The sasau monastery quest in KCD1 is probably one of the worst in both games.

KCD1 has a lot of rough edges and the combat is much more wooden, but the memories of that adventure make KCD2 undoubtedly even better.

Thanks OP, purchased and im sure I will never get around to playing it. Consults pile of shame

  • +4

I'll buy KCD2, when it's at this price, hopefully by the end of the decade.

    • +2

Buy both now and treat yo self. It's a indie studio that make good games, not a soulless enterprise.

  • +3

Played KCD2 last year and loved it. Playing through KCD1 now and even though it’s obviously less refined I’m still really enjoying it. After grinding out combat skills on the trainer I’m pretty OP now and can easily take down groups of 5+ bandits.

Great game - yes it is very slow and a very long campaign, but buckle up for an incredible story and journey from peasant and upwards! It really is an great game and worth playing before KC2
