  • Is it true prices are expected to jump another 20% this year? (GPUs/SSDs included)

    • +9

Not a betting guy but seems very possible.

The 2028 production of memory is already being bought out, and consumers will get the scraps.

      • +1

Really? I hear that prices will start falling early 2027…

        • +1

that still means they will be going up for another year

      • -7

There has always been companies ordering 2-4 years in advance, they plan entire architectures around this stuff.

Every time something becomes popular news we watch people hit the Dunning-Kruger curve something fierce…

        • +1

we watch people hit the Dunning-Kruger curve something fierce
          Yeah, you're not wrong mate.

    • I'm no expert but this is only the beginning…..

  • +1

    Yeaahhhhhh!!!! Love this life!!!!!

  • +4

Insane.. But probs the best price you're getting right now… My DDR5 kit from August cost me 170, 32gb CL30 6000hz. Same kit is now over 900 retail :\ 32gb team group kit

It does appear the CL30s are significantly more expensive though, vs the ~cl36 etc in general

    • +1

I have this RAM in my second machine too and paid a pretty penny for it in December. Though PCCG are overcharging, Amazon have this kit for $699 (cost me $639.)

      • Ah. Fair. Wonder why they're listing it so high..

    • I got a 96GB (2x48GB) 6400MT/s CL32 kits last year for about $650. That kit is now about $2k. Bloody insane.

      • +1

Oooffft I'm sure you were like 'damn this is a lot for RAM' back then too!

      • Thanks for letting us know

  • my goodness. these prices.

  • Ram or Gold, which one is more expensive?

    • 1.00 ounce of XAU ~= 6,990 AUD

I'll take gold over RAM modules for now.

      • Going up to likely 7500aud and beyond soon too. Bullish ascending triangle is only at half it's target.

Better off getting this. CL28 and 6000mhz - 32GB for $549 with coupon + $6 postage or get a trial of eBay plus for free delivery.

    • +1

I got this. Significantly faster than the Dominators in this deal.
Although in real world the difference wont be noticable.

      • So is it significant or not?

        • Significant in benchmarks. Significant in overclockability.

      • CL offers no real world benefit.

your CL28 @6000mhz has compute time of 9.3333 Nano seconds, whereas this deal is 12 nano seconds.
for context a Nano seconds is one-billionth of a second. so in this case, its 0.000000003 of a second slower.
if you scale it up, 1 nano second is to 1 second, is the same as 1 second is to 31 years.
you will not perceive any difference between them, its all marketing fluff to get you to spend more.

  • I am so glad I got all my parts for build last year.

  • Decided to buy this instead:

RAM prices hurt but I can't see it getting better anytime soon…

  • +4

Alright Mr Jensen, I'll bend over so it's easier for you to stick it in..

    • +6

Nah, Scam Altman is the one bending you over for Ram…

      • +2

Altman, Bankman, Lisa and his cousin. Satya and Sundar.. everyone can have a piece of this..

      • +1

OpenAI is a company that has committed to $1 trillion of spending with a current revenue (not profit) of $13 billion.

        • Confirmation of Korean stupidity… Both Samsung & Hynix made concurrent deals with this scammer, only for Trump to later bend them over with tariff's, lest they make everything in the US…..

  • +3

    Ridiculous…

  • will they stack if you order 2 of these (4x16gb) or am i better off getting 2 32gb if i want 64gb?

    • +2

better to run two sticks, especially on AMD. four sticks and you may run into signal integrity issues and end up needing to run them at slower clocks/timings

  • +1

    Holy shit

  • My daughter want a gaming PC for around 2k, but the RAM price….

    • +4

Just get a ps5 and a laptop. Laptop before that ship sails too..

    • It's unclear how long it will take for the second tier RAM chip makers to have sufficient DDR5 chips ready and at what speed. The big 3 are busy with HBM, but they did kill off majority of the smaller RAM chip makers throughout the years.

    • +1

just go for a ddr4 system, opt for some used components if you must

  • +2

By the time the manufacturers ramp up production to meet the perceived AI demand and the bubble pops , we can only hope there is such a glut of oversupply we can all can cash in on it.

    • +2

Most people don't need HBM. The current issue is the big 3 move all their production lines to make HBM so they are not making DDR5 or NAND chips.

Intel Core Ultra 300 and 400 and AMD Zen 6 processors are expect to use DDR5 (with DDR5-8000 being optimal DDR5 to use). Will there actually be sufficient supply of DDR5-8000 or better by then?

    • it will come…. just need patience

  • +4

    OpenAI cant fail fast enough.

    • amen

    • Just another fad that will pass… as in the money cant last forever

Ai is not a fad and will only grow sadly, sad times ahead.

  • Is anyone buying even at this price?

    • Unfortunately, some of us need to build machines for people that can't wait (Work rig). And unfortunately this might be the cheapest price we can get quality RAM for a new build.

  • christ! that price.

  • I got the ram now then what about NVME?

  • Anyone remember the RAM shortage/scare of 2000? I remember paying $160 for RAM back then and thinking that was a fortune.

    • yep, I worked for DEC/Compaq at the time, I had no problems getting ram though ;)

  • This much price just for 32GB of RAM and it's called a bargain?.

    • +1

This would be considered a bargain today with the insanely high prices and short supply of RAM.
Cheaper than brick n mortar stores that would cost $100+ more.
And the price might go up even more in the next 3-6 months (I think).

  • +1

remember the price of milk? the price of ram is never going down again

  • Hi @Sir Flabo, I can only see the original price, I cannot see any 5% discount etc anywhere (like I was seeing on other items).

    Any help there?

    TIA.

    • It seems that the additional discount has expired, unfortunately!

  • Discount not working, stuck at $575.73 …

  • So I ordered 2 sets of these to take advantage of the extra 5% off. Brother has since told me you can't go mixing DDR4 and DDR5 RAM.

Anyone want them at cost? Can separate the set. I'm located in Sydney.

Otherwise I'll just cancel the order.

  • FYI: Deal now expired, back up to $741
