The original Marathon trilogy was really impressive. It did some cool things with 3D engines / FPS gameplay that most PC games weren't doing at the time.
e.g. interesting storytelling (mostly via computer terminals), dual wielding, reloading, a variety of multiplayer modes including co-op, voice chat, mouselook, NPCs, scripted sequences, portals, teleporters, swimming, a braching story/levels, oxygen depleting, …
Some PC games at the time had some of these things, but not all of them together

It's the husk of Marathon wrapped around a multiplayer-only PvP extraction shooter. No campaign or co-op modes.
Expect it to last about a year before everyone moves on.

I get the feeling that it'll be like Anthem - the servers will be up for few years but no one will be playing it. I don't think it will be Concorde 2.0.

While GMG is a legit site I've used many times, be aware pre-order keys often aren't issued until closer to release dates (or in the case of Borderlands 4, more that 5 hours after release).
So if you're hoping to redeem the pre-order bonus content for Destiny 2 immediately, you may be waiting a good month.

Replying to my own post to confirm GMG just issued keys (in the last 30 minutes) for the Deluxe Edition, and "Marathon Deluxe Edition PO (ROW)" was successfully redeemed on Steam.
GMG have also updated the listing to state "Please note: Keys will be delivered immediately on purchase"
So keen for this.

Heard a lot of good thing from play testers. But I won’t pre order until I can try it myself.
Lot of people out there with an axe to grind, hoping it fails.
To me its looking better and better. I'm now cautiously optimistic. Demo weekend can't come soon enough.
Couldn't agree more, they've taken on all the feedback from last years beta's and made it into a much better game. Also providing the demo weekend a week before release is a perfect way for everyone to try before they buy.
As a Halo fan I know this Bungie has basically none of what the old Bungie team had but I don't hope the game fails, the PvP extraction multiplayer-only direction feels forced on them by Sonys obsession with trying to create live service titles.
From the trailers and the lore you can tell someone at Bungie is trying to give us a little of what they wanted to make, hopefully this game can be popular enough that they are allowed to make a campaign expansion to add the missing half of the game. I doubt it will happen though.
Maybe they will add a coop mode where you team up against bot opponents and can do a bunch of missions that are sort of like a mini campaign.
PvP extraction is boring to me, nothing worse than finding good loot in a game and knowing that you are going to lose it when you try to extract it anyway. Makes the game feel absolutely pointless. What's the point of trying to do the objectives and earn stuff and lose health in the process when you can go in fully geared and hide camping for the match then just easily pick off the wounded players trying to extract and steal all their work.
Do not pre-order games.
Especially Sony live service slop that will be a ghost town 2 weeks after release.

Yeah this is basically throwing money away, it will either become free to play like destiny 2 or shut down like concord.
Sony's already lost over 200 million from the Bungie acquisition and this games controversy sure isn't going to help.
