[ACT, NSW, VIC, SA, QLD] Up to 15000 Qantas Pts after Paying 1st Qantas Red Plan Electric + Gas Bill at New Address @ Red Energy

341

I was waiting on an EconnexDeal but didn't want to risk it with ShopBack so went with these guys before churning out again.

They are offering 10,000 points for electricity sign ups, 5,000 points for new gas signups. Points are credited 21 days after paying the first bill. There seems to be no minimum amount you need to stay with them from my understanding of the T&Cs.

Important info for regular churners: Points will only be awarded once if you change energy providers and move back to Red Energy within 12 months.

Sign up to Red Energy on a Qantas Red plan and link your Frequent Flyer number. There are no sign-up fees or lock-in contracts for residential customers – making the switch simple.
Earn 10,000 bonus Qantas Points for electricity and 5,000 bonus Qantas Points for gas when you pay your first bill in full. Plus, earn 2 Qantas Points per $1 when you pay on time.*
Offer only available for new residential electricity and/or gas customers in eligible areas of ACT, NSW, VIC, SA and QLD with a current Qantas Frequent Flyer membership who sign up with Red Energy on a Qantas Red plan for a new electricity and/or gas service at a new supply address. This means you could be eligible if you are a new customer of Red Energy, or an existing customer of Red Energy signing up to a new supply address. Customers will be awarded with 10,000 bonus Qantas Points for electricity and/or 5,000 bonus Qantas Points for gas within 21 days of the first electricity and/or gas bill being paid in full. Bonus Qantas Points will only be awarded once if you change energy providers and move back to Red Energy within 12 months. Ongoing Qantas Points will be earned per dollar on your electricity and/or gas bill, when you pay the full amount on each bill by the due date. Red Energy may withdraw or change this offer at any time. Full Red Energy and Qantas Frequent Flyer Offer Terms and Conditions are available here. Basic Plan Information Documents/Energy Fact Sheets are available here.

This can be stacked with additional 1500 points or a $25 gift card through a referral.
Referral is upsized for those in Victoria (Thanks darkly): At the moment they are also offering an additional 3,500 Qantas Points or $50 gift cards (Wish, Coles , Rebel, JB HiFi and more) if you sign up through a referral link for referrer and referee. Make sure to select the correct link in the referral generator above!

Double the rewards for a limited time!
Refer your family and friends to Red and if they switch their household electricity and/or gas to one of our great value residential plans by 26 February 2026, you’ll both be rewarded with a $50 eGift card* or if on a Qantas Red plan, the choice of 3500 Qantas Points^.

  • Wheres the next econnex deal, that might stack with this.

    • +3

This deal is only available on the Red Energy Qantas Red plan, and unfortunately Econnex only offer the Red Living Energy Saver plan.

    • Most likely around end of January based on past offers.

      • +1

hope so, i dont like paying elec bills ;)

  • If your electricity bill is usually a credit (from solar feed in), would you still get the 10k points after your first bill?

    • +1

i dont see why not but thats assuming you have a sunny month (and if battery then that helps too) and the rates aren't shit

  • Is there a waiting period for previous customers? My last bill with them was in July 2025.

    • "Customers who change energy providers and move back to Red are entitled to a maximum of one allotment of bonus Qantas Points every 12 months."

      • Thanks! I noticed the T&C have now been added to the post.

        • My situation is similar to you.
So, this means we are not qualified for this offer?

          • +2

@mkowarkski: Yes, sadly not till it's been more than 12 months since the last service date with them.

FYI - That $50 referrel link is only for VIC customers:
$50 or 3500 Points - Referee and referrer get 3,500 Qantas Points or a $50 eGift card.

"Eligible Victorian Customers will be eligible to receive an additional $25 on their eGift Card (i.e. an eGift Card with a total value of $50) or an additional 2,000 Qantas Points (i.e. totalling 3,500 Qantas Points), where the Referred Customer’s electricity and/or gas account has been transferred to Red between 12:01am (AEDT) on 19 January 2026 and 11:59pm (AESDT) on 26 February 2026. Thank you for this important piece of information, I didn't see this. Added as info into the post now.

  • Doesn't say how long you need to stay. if you churn before the first bill are you still eligible?

    • They came through after a week for me a couple of years back.

      • +1

A week after joining or a week after paying the bill?

    • It says points are credited 21 days after paying the first full bill. I wonder if you can churn out already after a couple of days already and still be eligible

      • That's what I'd like to know

        • Can confirm this btw. Churned out after I paid my bill then got the points a couple of days later

          • @Ni l s: So you stayed for 1 month?

            • @crackman: No. My first bill came after 21 days so I left after that.

  • That means a $75 minimum depending on the Qantas point usage.

  • Any of their plans suited to solar, batt and/or EV? (I know this a lazy question)

Dodgy company, I searched energy made easy with demand pricing off.

Signed up and they tried to put demand pricing in fine print. They said sorry that's the only tariff we can apply which is a complete lie because the company I was with did flat rate tariff.

False advertising if you're going to put demand pricing then at least advertise it as such rather than focing people to find out only after the contract comes.

Check your contract and don't be afraid to nope out of it during your cool off period if they try a sneaky one.

Red Energy is owned by the Federal government via snowy hydro, maybe give Albo a call…

      • He is too busy with … you know the thingy about speech. Phew, I nearly go to jail for that

      • +1

Of course Albo is doing a qantas deal didnt they give his son free membership?

        • Wait till you hear about what your other neighbour has that you don’t…

    • I had the same experience with Alinta. I transferred last year and was quietly put on the more expensive rates (TOU, I believe).

My fault for not picking it up in the fine print but Alinta didn't care to help either. I transferred out immediately as the rate difference was too significant for me to stay.

Whatever you do, don't mention Snowy2 or ask why a taxpayer funded organisation has so many overpaid executives.

Qantas points are so devalued now, is this even worth it?

They changed all the flight costs.

    • Did they?

      • Yes, mainly with Emirates. Price increases and bronze tier can’t book first class now.

        https://www.afr.com/companies/transport/qantas-devalues-freq…

Emirates was the main value for me personally, got a $15,000 ticket for around 200,000 pts and $1500 taxes. First class from Europe, one leg an A380 with the showers. I don’t use Qantas ff so don’t have silver with them - I use Qatar.

Domestic routes also impacted - higher fees and higher point costs.

        https://www.theguardian.com/business/2025/aug/05/qantas-freq…

        • Seems a bit much ado about nothing.

          • @eccaz: “Taxes” higher, points cost higher, that’s the tldr.

Use to be able to get $600 domestic flights for 8000 pts and $70. No more.

            • @Dyl: $.066/pt? At the time of booking or after?

Aside from there being fewer flights available, I’ve found that when I can get them their value is pretty much the same (at around $.02/pt).

              • @eccaz: That was for multi hop regional flights, MEL to PLO for example. Those were the really good deals.

It sits in the lowest mile range still so is the lowest points amount (same as MEL to ADL), but they’ve upped that to something like 9600 and the fees are higher. That with card sign up bonuses being crappy now it’s ruined the whole game… and no more first class emirates.

First class emirates was 15,000 tickets you’d never buy otherwise for like 200,000 pts, 2 legs.

  • Aussies: buying stuff for points “I got a free holiday!!”

Also Aussies: why is food and EVERYTHING getting more expensive?!

Companies: Wait, you thought WE pay for the things you get with points? Lol.

Thanks, OP. I just signed up, hoping they will be able to install a smart meter for free which will allow for monthly billing so I can churn out after less than two months.

    • any updates on this?

      • +1

        Not yet, no!

  • Signed up. Got the 1,500 points instantly after account confirmed, got my firs bill this week, lets see how long till the 15,000 come in.

    • Can confirm that I also got the bonus gift card immediately.

Was the first bill regular (say after a month) or did you churn straight out?

    • How'd you get a bill so quickly?

      • I signed up in Mid- December. Took about a week or two to Red to actually switch me over.

    • how long did it end up taking for the points? thanks!

      • I got the 10,000 points a week or two after the first bill came through. I just got a gas bill now, see how long it takes for the 5000 to come through next

        • great, thanks!

      • Paid my first bill Tuesday and had the points Sunday so less than a week

  • do we need to pay each time we switch providers?

    • +1

Pay what? Your bill, yes. To switch, no.

  • For those that want to stack this with the upsized referral offer, this expires in three days! Red sent out an email about it today.
