  • Any layover where you could sleep overnight in a hotel?

  • ANA J on the 787 is a bit dated. Hopefully they upgrade the fleet on the AU runs to the new Room FX suites once they start being installed.

    • I was just going to ask about this, I've heard its quite old. Any idea if the onward flight between Japan and Europe is on the new business class product or any tips on how to find out?

      • Only New York and London i think run the FX. I just flew to Vancouver and back and i was on the old seats. I was quite surprised how crap the lounge was in Tokyo.

    • I feel so old that someone says a 787 is dated…

      • And A380s are 20years old… I also feel old haha

      • It's more their fitout, not actually the seat and it's controls but the exterior design which looks early 2000s. They are rolling out more up to date designs.

    • Still a good price. Qantas and Emirates probably charge that for Premium Economy

    • Their soft product is still tops and the seat is still an Aisle access lie flat. They are also rolling out (Don't bank on it with these flights) the Room FX which will be quite an improvement.

      I always order the Japanese meal on JAL business and it looks like ANA have the same top quality meals.

      This would be a super deal if you could get a stopover in Japan.

      • I love ANA and would love a stopover in Tokyo

        I just googled flights for SYD-Stockholm 22/7-11/8/26 and saw $6185 for ANA direct

        so such a small saving with $6K through this aggregator website, with the attendant risk of problems with a third-party, looks kinda meh to me

  • nothing for Melbourne?

    • nothing for Melbourne?

      While Stockholm Syndrome is well known, Melbourne Syndrome is not properly recognised yet.

    • It's about $6.6k from MEL-SYD-HND-ARN through ANA's site.

    • Gotta wait for those JAL sales if you're going through Melbourne

  • can i take my kid into business class?

    • The kid's not going to be happy about any home work after the class. But they'll be happy to learn how to upsell parents on toys!

  • Can I scream in business class?

    • Only at babies that are also in business class screaming

      • I sincerely hope that you are funnier in real life

        • It was sarcasm… I hope

          • @Onemoredeal: Hard to tell these days with all the people who seem to act like a business class ticket = private travel

            • @Bargain Slut: You missed the reference.

              • @askbargain: I wouldnt be accurately representing my profile picture if I was in touch with the common man

                • @Bargain Slut: All ticketed passengers must adhere to the terms and conditions of the airline and aviation regulations on passenger conduct.

                  If they are disruptive, they should be reprimanded and if necessary, deboarded.

    • Only if your pinky is up so everyone knows you're stressed out…

  • Is this for a group of 50 people? Coat too too high

  • Generous luggage allowance (Business Class - 2 x 32kg bags)

    Isn't that the standard/minimum for J?

    • SQ J is 40kg as standard.

      2x32kg is very generous.

      • You’re locked to 2 luggages while sq you can have yo to how many ever you want. Good if you like buying luggage every time you travel

  • … patiently waiting for another biz class fare to rival the 2024 Rwanda error fare …

  • Did a single one of the currently 39 upvotes actually book this flight or is planning to? I'm curious as to what % of ozbargainers this deal is supposed to appeal to. I would be astonished if more than 10% of those people booked

    • I think those are two different questions. People upvote if they perceive a bargain. I mean, how many of the upvoters go and buy those awful Chinese cars?

      I fly internationally a bunch for work and, depending on the year and my bank balance, for holidays. I have 100% booked cheaper than usual premium economy and business fares, including ones I saw because of a post here.

      ANA is a quality airline, the favourite of tens of millions of very polite Japanese pensioners. This looks like a bargain to me, even though I won’t book it. The more upvotes the more likely flight deals will reach the front page and someone will take advantage of them.

    • They must have forgot Rule #0 of ozbargain. Only upvote a deal if you buy the product. Thank you Steve Bennet for reminding us all

      • Sorry for being curious, please point me to where I claimed what you think I did.

    • I recently flew SYD-TYO-YVR-YWG return with them 5th Dec to 30Dec with a stop in tokyo. It was $5500 per adult. I thought i was a fantastic price. I also got double points with Viegin promo. Air Canada wanted $4k in economy for that price. Now i needed to go at Christmas as my wife hasn't been back to Canada for Christmas in ages. In anycase yes there will be people on here that fly business. We still look for deals where we can find them, how else can i afford b class

  • I haven't tried flying to Europe on ANA, but I've flown them several times to the US over the last 18 months. SYD-HND-YVR-???. I clear US immigration in Vancouver, a couple of hours in the AC lounge and onto my US destination. It's way better queuing for 2 hours for immigration at LAX. All of my trips have been ~6kAUD return. That's way better than 10kAUD+ direct to LAX/SFO with QF/UA/DL/AA.

    Pros
    * Significant cost savings
    * Excellent service
    * Avoiding LAX
    * Good lounge in Tokyo
    * Free WiFi
    * VA points

    Cons
    * Extra travel time
    * Seat is a little dated
    * Lack of stowing spaces
    * Entertainment system is pretty mid

    I'm happy to put up with those downsides in order to save several grand. The seat is more than adequate for working during the extra travel time.

    • Prefect analogy. Just flew to Winnipeg with them and codeshared in Canada. They have a new cafe lounge in Vancouver that has much nicer food than the maple lounge. I also wish you had your own air ducts, i found it got hot, then cold, then hot.

    • dreamin'

    • 100-200 for an upgrade from cattle class to a lie flat bed for going on 24 hours? You havent flown long haul business

    • Just IMHO, but I would be VERY happy to pay for business class on flights to Europe if they were only double the price ($2k-ish more) like they used to be, but they are often 3-4x the price of economy these days.

      The reason is the first couple of days of your trip and the same when you get back home you usually feel considerably better from a more restful sleep, and you can get on with your holidays (or back to work) almost immediately feeling great rather than feeling crappy for days. The extra cost is worth it for the 3-4 days of productivity or holiday feeling good.

      This is very much personal experience, some people take days to recover from long haul, others are largely unaffected. Also, the extra $$$ might be pocket change for some people. If they are paying $5k per night for a nice room at a top level hotel for a months holiday, the extra flight cost for business does not really change the total cost of the holiday much at all. Obviously not everyone is spending that much, but some do, and for them Business class makes sense.

  • Awesome start to a cheap holiday destination.
