I personally likely will stay for 100 days only as that possibly will give me the
    - 6 weeks free
    - $300 credit that I will apply for more days

    • Only issue is that the price hike happens in April. Wonder if if will make a difference if you didn't change but stayed on for 12 months for example

      • My new Medibank cover likely starts from Feb 10th. It means I stay for 100 days. My rough napkin calculation shows I pay roughly $510 for 100 days. I will likely switch to somewhere else by 21May 2026.

If one is staying for whole year, then the calculation would be different with more considerations

      • You can usually pre-pay prior to the hike and they honor the existing rate

      • Wonder if if will make a difference if you didn't change but stayed on for 12 months for example

        Make a difference to what?

Staying for longer than the promotional benefit is foolish.

  • I can't seem to edit the title. It should not say "50,000 Live Better Pts". This promo clearly says as stated in the description

15,000 Live Better points ($150 in gift cards) for singles/single parents or
30,000 Live Better points ($300 in gift cards) for couples/families.

The best I found is to apply the points for more days of free cover.

    • +1

Fixed now, I had copied it from an older title as I'm on mobile phone.

    • so you can use this "live better points" to pay for what an additional month of cover as opposed to redeeming it for gift cards?

      • You can get a $200 off your premium card, for I believe 12,500 points? (Points number may be wrong). But you can only do it once a year.

  • What if I was a member in November last year? Am I still eligible?

    • Read the terms.

      • Previous 60 days as of the new policy starting date or signing up date?

        • +1

The start date, of course. Until that date, you are not holding the policy.

  • +2

Points are down, was 50k last time

    • Yes not sure if its worth it for 30k points

  • +2

Any indication when this promo finishes? Nothing in t&c from what i could see

    • +1

Yeah it's confusing, it reads as if one could sign up for a start date in several months time…

    • 4th March… it told me when I tried to start cover on the 27th.

      • Should have read your comment earlier. Found out the same "To be eligible for this offer your policy start date must be on or before 04/03/2026 – please review your policy start date to receive this offer, or remove the promotion or referral code to proceed."

  • Not much overall difference for me , Currently with HCF and the price difference is around $50 per month for same cover

You're missing the point. The idea of churning is that you keep churning.

By following these types of offers,1 you can save up to 58% per annum off your health insurance premiums.

      1. Typical industry promos of 'pay 1 month, get 6 weeks free'. It works out to 58% because of a government limit on how much the health insurers can discount premiums. By churning, you multiply your savings, unrestrained by the discount limit placed on the health insurers.

      • Done this a few times but recently got hit because BUPA rejected a claim saying I didn't have 12 month served. I was doing something like insurance #1 - #2 - #3 - #4 - Medibank - BUPA always on the same hospital cover level. But BUPA said the clearance certificate received from Medibank only showed 12 weeks I had with Medibank.

        • +1

Done this a few times but recently got hit because BUPA rejected a claim saying I didn't have 12 month served.

Firstly, Bupa, Medibank and NIB, are the worst.

Secondly, you could have readily resolved this by providing the relevant historical transfer certificates.

When I join a new fund, I send them transfer certificates for the previous 12 months. (I would send longer if there were Extras with 24- or 36-month waiting periods that I wanted to access). See my post here about recordkeeping.

Private health insurance is a total scam that should be abolished. Imagine paying for Medicare, plus a Medicare surcharge, then having to pay for private, only to largely use the public system anyway. What a joke.

    • I agree. Especially for people who are healthy and not use hospital for 10-15 years of early life.

    • +4

If only the government was not penalizing those who don't buy a product that they don't need!

    • -1

Private health is a steal if you are unhealthy or have any chronic conditions. Unlike car insurance etc or even live insurance, everyone pays the same amount.

      (Lifetime health loading excluded)

  • +2

Note of caution when redeeming the points for premium payments:

"It's $200 max on premium payments per year per (can be 2 x $100 if you want, or 1 x $200..makes no difference).

Also, points are lost when you change providers, or 6 months if you simply cancel with Medibank and don't take up any other cover with anyone else.
Literally just got off the phone to support"

See previous medibank deals for more info.

    This caught me out, frustrating.

    • +1

Also, most giftcards are the "one hit' type.. if you don't use the full amount in one transaction, you will lose the remainder.

Also, makes you ineligible for Adidas promo codes and refunds using one of these gift cards is messy.

      • Yes!

    • +2

I went from Medibank -> Bupa -> Medibank and maintained my points from the initial Medibank cover. So had 100k in my account the second time.

      • How long between hops was it though?

        • +1

5 months exactly. Above comment written like it didn’t have to be more than 6 months. So maybe it does.

  • +5

Seems they are testing the waters to see if they can get away with 30k points instead of 50k.

    • +2

so not worth it , best to wait for a 50k promo?

  • -1

When my account got hacked, will I receive any compensation?

  • +1

Its a scam as some people indicated above
50k points worth $500 is a sort of misleading, they need to add duration of using this $500 as well. You can only use 25k points for 2k once in an year. All other gift cards are pretty crap. Suppose you order adidas gc, you need use only in onlines store, use full value in one transaction (otherwise residual value is useless),, no other promotions apply (means items are full price and with gc comes to the already discounted website price)

    Its a total scam

    • You can use points to pay off your weekly premium. That is what I plan to do.

      • You cannot. There is a cap. Only $200/year

        • So $200 is nothing to you?

I used that in my calculations. For my silver cover plus extras, I am getting 100 days of cover for $510. That is cheapest

          • @welcomeUniverseWorld: You are not getting the point. Medibank advertise as $500 worth of points however you can only use $200 once and need to stay with them for an year to utilise the full benefits of medibank points.

    • +1

For me its was worth it as i converted the points in multiple $50 specsavers vouchers and basically got my glasses free. Normally my glasses cost me extra $200 on top of extra cover limit as I get bifocal glasses.

Selecting a join date in March (with this promo code) returns the following:

To be eligible for this offer your policy start date must be on or before 04/03/2026 – please review your policy start date to receive this offer, or remove the promotion or referral code to proceed.

That's not to say that Medibank won't amend or withdraw the offer prior to the above date.

    • +1

Is this the one you switched to from BUPA ? ;-)

Not a great company themselves Medibank.

      • Is this the one you switched to from BUPA ?

No. I went to GMHBA for pay 1 month, get 1 month free. (This offer has ended.)

Not a great company themselves Medibank

Agreed. That's why I went with GMHBA.

If a better offer comes up before my GMHBA policy commences in February, I'll go with that and not proceed with GMHBA.

        • I see - I missed that offer, I might go with the Frank Insurance offer.

          • @dinglejerry: I always prefer the 1m/6wks free deals but I could bring myself to have to deal with Medibank again.

Bupa and Medibank are now my insurers of last resort. Dealing with them is just too painful (not something you want if/when you are unwell).

            • @YesPleaseThankYou: I agree. Was there a reason the Frank offer didn't appeal?

              • @dinglejerry: To keep my search costs simple, I usually select Gold Hospital and Top Extras. The Frank Gold Hospital has a $750 excess, which I did not like (with no option for $500), and there were some adverse features in the Extras.

GMHBA has SmartCare Complete Extras, which I intend to take advantage of:

One flexible $1,500 annual limit to spend your way across included services like dental, physio, remedial massage and psychology – the choice is yours!

                • @YesPleaseThankYou: But if you're only hanging around for a short time to get the free weeks, does it matter that much?

                  • @dinglejerry: No, it doesn't matter 'that much'. I definitely thought about for much less time than I'm spending here talking about it to you :)

                    • @YesPleaseThankYou: Hardcore ! :)

                      • @dinglejerry: The '6 weeks free' offer is now available from GMHBA.

Someone else can take the OzBargain glory 🏆 if they wish to post the deal.

                        • @YesPleaseThankYou: Hahaha - I thought GHMHBA were good actually. Only problem is I think I suspect I won't be eligible having left them in April of last year.

                          • @dinglejerry:

*For new members joining on combined hospital and extras cover and paying by direct debit, who have not been a GMHBA member in the last 12 months. Must pay first month premium to receive offer. Other waits (including hospital waits), annual and sub limits apply. Extras claims made with a previous fund count towards annual limits. Offer only available via GMHBA website, phone and branch or GMHBA corporate program. Not available in conjunction with any other offer. GMHBA may end this offer at any time without notice.

                            • +1

@YesPleaseThankYou: Yes which is as I suspected, so that means for now I'm either stuck with BUPA or have to go with medibank if I want 6 weeks off (le sigh), I'm just waiting for another 6 week offer to emerge.

                            • +1

@YesPleaseThankYou: As we are all sharing intel here I will just share I switched to HBF , forgot they had a 6 week offer going, seemed better than staying with BUPA. Gives me some free weeks till the next offer emerges. Just need to figure out how to get a copy of the clearance certificate from BPA given they are so terrible to communicate with.

Thanks again for putting me onto the idea of churning, I am surprised more people don't do it and it's such a valuable way to save some hard earned $$ with very little downside from what I can see.

                              • @dinglejerry:

I will just share I switched to HBF , forgot they had a 6 week offer going

Yes: Join an Eligible Hospital & Extras Insurance Policy & Hold for 31 Days, Get 6 Weeks Free & 2-Month Wait Waiver @ HBF

Just need to figure out how to get a copy of the clearance certificate from BPA given they are so terrible to communicate with.

Yes, Bupa will only post transfer certificates to policyholders. It does also email them but only to other funds, 'for security'.

very little downside from what I can see

If one can't avoid Medibank and Bupa promotions, the downsides are increased stress and lost time.

                                • @YesPleaseThankYou: Indeed, do they post the xfer certificate by default (BUPA)? I shudder to have to contact them for anything and would prefer to avoid.

Hopefully HBF is a bit better.

                                  • @dinglejerry:

Indeed, do they post the xfer certificate by default (BUPA)?

Post-only to customer. No other option is offered.

                                    • @YesPleaseThankYou: Yes but do they do that only if you ask or automatically?

                                      • +1

@dinglejerry: They do it automatically because it's a legal obligation to provide you a with a transfer certificate upon cessation of the policy:

A private health insurer (the old insurer) must, if a person ceases to be insured under a *complying health insurance policy of the insurer and does not become insured under another policy of the insurer, give the person a certificate under this subsection

Subsection 99-1(1) of the Private Health Insurance Act 2007 (Cth).

                                        • @YesPleaseThankYou: Interesting! I'm sure I haven't gotten it from other PHI's without chasing up first. Will keep this on hand for future ref.

  • Anyone know if we need to connect to a smart watch or can we manually mark an activity as done for "track a Live Better activity within 42 consecutive days from the policy start date."

    • can do it manually

    • I just go in Monday and mark off everything manually

  • +2

FYI, Medibank will have the 3rd highest average annual price change (5.10%) of all the funds, see Average annual price changes in private health insurance premiums. Price increases will apply from 1 April 2026—happy April Fool's Day!

  • My frank offer ends in a week and today is last day to join Medibank offer?

  • it's now 12 weeks instead of 10 but pretty much same deal repeat.

    • Exactly the same for churners as both have 6 weeks free up front, just the second year free weeks changes.

So basically, same offer, still the base 30k points
