  • huh apple doing that bad? i don't think previous models had much of a discount.

    • -1

what? this is only like $100 off RRP

      • -1

        Isn't it $1453 hence $200 off?

        • +3

The phone is $1399. This isn’t much of a discount.

          • @dongltron: This deal is easier than buying via Apple Gift Cards at 10% off. Though if you’re looking to claim GST on a flight out, buying from Apple would be better.

            • +1

              @prophet:

This deal is easier than buying via Apple Gift Cards at 10% off.

Agreed that it's "easier", but you can actually stack it to an extent. Apple price match competitors up to 10%. Since this has a RRP of $1399, 10% off that would be $1259.10 ($1.80 more than this, so that's all you'd be "missing out" on)

You then use Apple GCs that you bought at 10% off to bring it effectively down to $1133.19. If you want to argue that you prob wouldn't be able to get a perfect 10% off the exact amount, let's just assume you're only getting 10% off on $1200, in which case you shave off $120 -> $1259.10-$120 = $1139.10

Though if you’re looking to claim GST on a flight out, buying from Apple would be better.

Why? As long as you've got a Tax invoice with the required info, you should be good to go?

              • @illumination: I’ve not thought about that!! Do I have to go in store to price match? And if I pay with gift cards, can I still preload them into my Apple Account?

For claiming GST, you’d want to maximize the amount shown on the invoice by using gift cards.

                • @prophet:

Do I have to go in store to price match?

You can do it on the phone too, but they're not open on weekends and public holidays.

And if I pay with gift cards, can I still preload them into my Apple Account?

Oh, that's a good question. Not sure about that. I'm assuming you could (instead of topping up your Apple account) use it directly as a payment method at Apple

For claiming GST, you’d want to maximize the amount shown on the invoice by using gift cards.

But you're still better off stacking as per my initial idea because the saving you'd derive from saving on the cost of the phone would be greater than the GST amount you'd be able to claim back from an invoice with a higher cost

                  • @illumination: How do you pay over the phone? Do you get a link to complete the purchase?

Yea agreed. Price match at Apple Store + gift cards, then GST refund if possible sounds like the best approach.

                    • @prophet:

How do you pay over the phone? Do you get a link to complete the purchase?

I'm actually not sure as I haven't done it before. I just know that you can do price beat over the phone, but whether you have to give card details for payment over the phone, pay via some kinda link, or pay upon pick up, I'm not sure.

              • @illumination: I’ve now tried two Apple Stores in Victoria. Chadstone won’t price match any iPhone 17 models, and Southland won’t price match DigiDirect. It’s been a pretty inconsistent experience.

                • @Albx: Hmm might be hard trying to get them to budge, it doesn't seem like they have a very clear price matching policy in black and white, unlike officeworks. Sounds like it depends on your luck

  • +2

How big of an upgrade would this be over the iPhone 14?

    • +1

I upgraded mine from iPhone 13 and camera is much cleaner and a bit fast so yeah you will feel the upgrade

    • 3 generations more if I'm not mistaken.

    • +18

I upgraded from the iPhone 14 base model to the iPhone 17 base model on release day.

It is a big enough update, but it depends on whether you would value those small quality-of-life changes.

      1. 120hz promotion display like the pros - To be fair you kinda get used to it so the difference between 60hz on iPhone 14 to 120hz on iPhone 17 is somewhat marginal after a month or so.

      2. Dynamic island - love or hate thing I guess. I personally have no feelings on this but having currently playing music/music control displayed is quite nice.

      3. Battery life - Felt better to me than how the iPhone 14 was brand new

      4. Higher outdoor peak brightness - somewhat better to read under the hot summer sun like today. Unfortunately, it overheats in maybe 5 mins and throttles its brightness like any other phones do.

      5. Lower min brightness - personal favourite. Much easier on the eyes for that sleepless 3am Ozbargain session.

      6. Camera control button - good for quick camera access. Don't use it for other functions.

      7. Quick action button (replaces mute switch) - customisability is a good thing and I have this set to trigger voice memo.

      8. Apple Intelligence - It's broken, unoptimised, and useless but it's at least available for iPhone 17, not iPhone 14.

      9. Larger base model storage - 256 GB

        1. (But probably 1.) USB-C
        • That's the main reason I want to upgrade my wife's phone. No more lightning around the house.

    • +7

In a word , huge . This years base model is the unicorn 💯

    • This will probably be the only phone you’ll ever need for 4 years

  • +2

Officeworks price match won’t be available via phone until Tuesday morning. Also not much physical stock around me in Melbourne.

    • I’m pretty sure you can place a pre-order and pick up in a few days but I know it’s annoying when some OW aren’t able to give an ETA

    • Why is there so little stock around?

      • Popular model. Almost as good as the Pro and cheaper. Air is overpriced and arguably worse.

  • Will they price match to digidirect?

    • If they're Matching model numbers , for sure .

    • +3

      Yes and yes!

Jb, good guys and Harvey all do it!

      • +3

Got it. 1194. They weren't very happy about it

        • Who did 1194? Can it be a click and collect if not in stock at office works, done in store?

        • +2

Same - got one price beat with no dramas at my local OW. I had about $650 in discounted GCs so came to about $1130 for me. Happy with that

          thanks OP

  • +5

Will never order from these guys again.. ordered nov 28, received jan 20.. wasn't even told its oos until 2days after ordering..

    • +9

I don’t think people are really ordering off these guys anyway. People are using them to price beat elsewhere

    • +1

Similar here, anyone buying should take screenshots as dodgiDirect website is not yet showing oos preorder delivered in 2027.

      • 100% on this. I bought this phone from the deal on the 30th December and they honoured and sent the phone when I sent the screenshot back to them.

  • +2

Southport Officeworks store refusing to price match, keep saying Digidirect are not Authorised Reseller.

    • +2

Ok wouldn't budge, said it's company policy not to match Digidirect as they are grey imports, even after showing they are Authorised Apple Reseller.

    • +1

JB is much easier to communicate. If you can get a discount on gift cards, I’d go to these guys instead.

      • Yes JB matched without question.

    • just depends on the manager of the day, or how grumpy the store person is. Digidirect have physical stores around Australia haha

    • Tell us who hurt you mate, it'll make you feel better.

      • -4

        but its open source mate

    • That's because you can't do anything with it these days because you'll trip Play Integrity 😭

Don't think there's much point to sticking with the Android ecosystem these days

    • Sorry mate, I was the one on duty for the Android sheep comment but I overslept.

Android is open source, that's the best.

Here you go, my apologies again for the delay, won't happen again

      • +1

        open source hero!!

  • +1

Saw this late but managed to PB at officeworks, only had 2 in stock at my local - thanks OP

  • +1

Thanks @Happyjin got one price matched and picked up at jbhifi

    • online or instore?

      • Online ordered and click and collect.

  • +2

Thanks. PB Officeworks (adding the delivery fee). Total $1202.95. Paid with ultimate students GCs from RT health rewards (4% discount).

  • Anybody here up/sidegrade from 15 pro max to this? Thoughts?

    • Slight downgrade. You lose: Better main camera sensor, telephoto lens, larger screen.

  • Can you go in store at Officeworks if they have no stock and price beat and get it ordered in via "Delivered to store"?

    • Have the same question

      • I did exactly that, so yes you can. @altovista @Shaunzki

    • +1

I believe you can do that @altovista @Shaunzki

    • +1

I just did it. No hassle at all. Went to store in Victoria, paid in store and they price matched by $1194.44 . There was no stock so this will be free delivered by 28Jan at home address. I also ask if I could choose different color, that was not possible, so went with Mist Blue. Thanks OP.

      • Amazing! Any chance you can share the receipt for me? I'm getting knocked back at my local office works here

  • +1

Ow price matched $1194 instore, plus stacked onepass $40 ow reward!

  • Unbelievable - I actually bought a blue one at OW yesterday for 1399 - already opened the box - I searched OzB prior also and had been searching for deals in days before but yeah did not see digidirect nor this post!

    • +6

holy caboley - i gave it a shot and calling today a lucky day - went back to OW and with little fuss refunded me $202 to price match with 5% the digidirect deal. This is after opening the box!

      • +2

Congrats! This doesn’t happen often. Very lucky!

  • -1

Good first deal OP, can you add “iPhone 17” to your tags?

    • +1

Product tag is already there. I got the notification 17 hours ago.

      • Oh my bad. My email notifications must need some attention.

  • Will this only work to price match blue colour ?

    • +2

      Yes

  • Office works north lakes 4509 would not price beat

  • +3

It's crazy, how some stores do and some do not considering the policy in place.

  • +2

Thanks OP, got a price match done at JB. Didn't feel like the OW price beat was worth the hassle, maybe I should hand in my Ozb license. Will hopefully be a meaningful upgrade from a 13 Pro :)

  • +2

Luckily Officeworks had a newbie and they matched it bringing it to $1194.44 @ black colour….initial lady said no then. Checkout did it

  • +2

    Thanks OP.
    Price beat at OW.
Used $1000 of 10% off gift cards and pretty happy with the new phone.

  • Price mated at OW. No dramas.

  • +1

Thanks op bought 1 for no particular reason other than it seemed like a great deal it's also a good investment as iPhone very rarely deprecate in value compared to its peers seeing that I was using pixel 10 pro suddenly this seemed so light to carry. Went to OW just asked and was matched plus 5% though I have no GC so that's all there is.

  • why does deal say expired? still in stock.

  • My local OW refused to price match yesterday. Maybe I'll try my luck again today. Can someone please share a OW tax invoice?

  • If I buy this at OW with GC, can I still claim the TRS when going oversea? TIA

    • +1

      Yes.

  • Digit direct has no stock so JB won’t price match

    • Try someone else, just price matched it successfully

      • Where did you go ?

        • JB Live Chat

          • @Emphasise: Thanks. I’ll try a different store tomorrow.

          • @Emphasise: JB chat got back to me …..and offered me a discount of ……$3.10…….

  • Officeworks Milton wouldn’t do it as digidirect is out of stock. They would happily do it otherwise.

  • JB Indro wouldn’t price match as digidirect was out of stock but he gave me $70 off With gift cards that came to 1275.

  • Price matched Officeworks for 2 x phones. OW guy said he just had to tack on the delivery fee ($8?) as Digi is from Western Australia of which I am not.

  • OW price beat over the phone yesterday. First call no luck but called back and got a different operator who was happy to price beat despite digi being OOS

  • +1

Just purchased it for $1,131.57 on digidirect, they must of discounted it further. Officeworks wouldn't price match it due it not being in stock.

    • Now its gone back to $1257.30

      • Yeh it weirdly came down to $1,131.57 overnight, back up to the OP price of $1,257.30 this morning, and now back to full price at $1,397.00

        • Clicking the link on the image gives a flash sale $1257.

Clicking the lnk in the description it’s full price.
