    East Digital has factory recertified with 3 year warranty versions for cheaper after shipping. Eh.

      Likely the same drives as here in OP. Just cheaper and a significantly better/longer warranty.

      You are correct — ED is cheaper. We did run group buys with them on OzB in the very early days, which you can still find in the forum history. We no longer run group buys, as we encountered differing practices around GST payment on large import shipments, which introduced risks that we were not comfortable taking on.

      Unfortunately, we are Melbourne based business and we have tax obiligations on GST, business tax, local labour and local operating cost.

      Sadly, it is very challenge for us competing price with a HK based company.

    You cover shipping for all warranty claims.

      We confirm that our practices comply with the Australian Consumer Law (ACL) and in practice often exceed the baseline requirements. We have adjust the wording to make it more precise.

        As always, go to the source to understand the detail. According to the ACCC:-

        Consumers are responsible for returning products that can be posted or easily returned.

        Businesses are responsible for paying for the shipping costs or collecting faulty products that are large, heavy or hard to remove … This must be done within a reasonable time.

        If the business confirms that the product does have a problem, it must reimburse the consumer for any reasonable return costs they have already paid.

        Consumers should keep receipts for postage or transport costs so that they can be repaid by the business.

        If the business finds that the product does not have a problem, it can make the consumer pay the collection and inspection costs. To do this, the business must give the consumer a reasonable estimate of these costs before collecting the product.

        This appears to have been part of ACL since the beginning (1 Jan 2011) and is not a new thing.

    Pre-price increase stock? Last year got 20tb East Digital recert with 3 year warranty for $470. A year before that 16tb for around $250.

      Yes, you are correct. Our stock cost was about only half this time last year. We would like to offer affordable data storage solutions to the community as always.

      Sadly, hard drive prices rocketed over the last year. It makes us harder to be in the market even with very tiny margin these days.

    sadly, the AI bubble has increased HDD price too much
    spent $350 for 16TB factory recertified in June 2025, now it's $500+
    gotta sit this one out :/
