[Mac] Control Ultimate Edition $5.99 @ Apple App Store

100

I know it's $4.99 on Steam, but if like me you don't want to have too many apps clogging the Mac, like game launchers, grab M silicon native game direct from App Store

it's an amazing game I own on a few platforms, but it's so good I'd gladly grab it at this discounted price here, too.

performance wise it's decent even on base M1 chip, and if you got some newer CPU then even better. enjoy!

My only issue with app store games is if Apple update their SDKs and the publisher doesn't want to maintain it, they'll delist it instead.

Steam one, you essentially get 3 versions right? Windows, Mac and Linux?

If you are into gaming, why would you avoid using Steam?

I am not into gaming. but I like this specific game

on my home PC I have all sorts of launchers, but my MBP is used for creative stuff only, I don't want to clog it up with trash like launchers

Probs don't clog it up with games you already own elsewhere then…

        • +2

I want to play on the go occasionally, and I already have MBP with me, so why not?

    • OP probably doesn’t realise a Mac is still a computer and Apple haven’t locked down playing games from elsewhere… at least yet

lol number of people who came to teach me how to live my life is mind shattering!

thank you Ozbargain community! it fills my heart with warmth haha

        • The main issue is the price. I get $5.99 is cheap nowadays, but it is still 20% more expensive than Steam.

From an OZB perspective, 20% cheap and you get Windows + Mac versions is a better buy. The game's performance on a base M1 Macbook Pro isn't that great. It's only an old M1, not that special nowadays so no need to treat it like a plant in a greenhouse.

          • @netsurfer: I'm saying "even on base M1", I have M1 Max in my MBP, and in Apple Metal it still beats M4 Pro.

and I already have Control Ultimate Edition on Xbox, Steam, and have free versions on Epic, GOG.

so not sure where all the hate is coming from.

you don't like the deal, fine. it was 50 something the other day on App Store and now it's $5.99

that's all there's to say about it

@shabaka: Does GOG one include the Mac version or only Windows? GOG games don't need to have launcher installed.

How normal is it to buy a game on XBox, Steam, have them free on Epic and GOG and still buy the Apple Store version?

You wrote base M1 on the description, so let's not assume base M1 = M1 Max. Sure, if you have an M1 Max, then $5.99 is nothing, but expecting us to magically know that even though you wrote base M1 in the description, you actually own an M1 Max is unrealistic. For people who own a base M1, buying multiple copies of this game, especially already own the Steam version, doesn't make sense.

Also, I get the M1 Max feeling, but sorry, no hardware ray tracing support.

              • @netsurfer: yeah, there was no hardware ray tracing, but would I have bought M1 Max if I needed it? I still don't

matching specs on M4 Max would cost me 4 grand to upgrade, while shaving off a few seconds in what I do. so I will continue using M1 Max until it dies. no reason to upgrade

gaming on Apple silicon is really good..

I remember running Death Stranding and Control on my older RTX 3070 laptop and despite low power config it still sounded like a helicopter and needed to be plugged in

while on this MBP I get decent fps on battery, silent (or can hardly hear fans if they are even on), such a great experience.

                • @shabaka: “I am not into gaming”

Also plays games on various gaming devices.

                  • @onlinepred: yeah, I do, occasionally.

last time I gamed on my PC was months ago.

I've had my MBP for yonkies snd gamed on it.. once

I have my Switch and it's my go to device when I want to relax. I haven't charged it for 3 weeks

I have an Xbox Series X, but only because I get free ultimate pass through work. I should probably get rid of it while it's still worth something

so yeah. I am not into gaming. it had its value for me during covid lockdowns but once I could get back into my hobbies again, lost its appeal

I don't watch TV or series, in my spare time I either do creative stuff or relax with a game, it's at least an "active" rest as opposed to numbing dumbing TV shows or whatever people watch these days

                    • @shabaka: Do you game. You are a gamer. You are into gaming!

                      • @onlinepred: haha nice one. happy Australia Day mate

                        but no, I am not.

out of all pastimes that I deem acceptable this one is chosen less frequently compared to others, so no.

@shabaka: Makes sense, I drive my car a few times a week if that, but I’m not a driver.

buddy, dont expect sympathetic friendly people here, it's just mean penny pinchers here lol

          • @Nilfunds: thank you mate, it's social practice for me. I met and dealt with every kind
