      Yeah some info about the layover times for these flights would be great. Having to click through and then find out that it's a 13+ layover leads to disappointment. Just have it upfront to manage expectations better.

        13+ layovers in places like Singapore or China is a big bonus, because you go out of the airport and enjoy another "country" within the price of the ticket.

        A quick, cheap, succulent Chinese meal, some tropical fruits,…goes down well.

    Those are crazy prices. I swear air travel gets cheaper and cheaper. Best price that I've noticed have been around 900-1000 for about 15 years now from Aus to Europe. 600s is witchcraft. Good find!

          yeah, if they keep prices low then Aus - Europe flights will end up stopping on the east bank of the Bosphorus and before you know it, Armenia then Uzbekistan and it will end up stopping at Darwin.

      Was there in late 2024 and four of us from the tour group formed a kind of posse to watch for PP gangs. We spotted two groups that looked a bit dodgy and basically told them we'd seen them and it was best to something-off.
      Not long later a woman (Spanish, I think) got her iPhone lifted and a chase ensued, it ended with some guy getting the living daylights kicked out of him. Plus Venice is a pain in the rear to get around…

      It's not the Italians the ones doing the pickpockets, they're mostly gypsies coming from eastern Europe, or sometimes South Americans. Italy's weak politicians and overly bureaucratic system allow these people to act pretty much unbothered, which is just shameful (but most Europe is like that unfortunately)

      There's carnival on these days. Stay away if you want to avoid the big crowds but it can definitely be fun.
      In any case, you don't fly to Venice just to visit Venice. A 2.5 hour drive from there brings you to one the most stunning mountain ranges in the world: the Dolomites. And also other beautiful cities like Verona (1hr drive) or Bologna (1.5 hr drive) - just to mention the more famous - are super close.

        The Dolomites! Ridiculously good. We had 4 days in Val di Funes and hiked to Geisleralm and also went to Seceda. Just unbelievable, and there is so many more places to see on top..This was June though

      We were just in Venice for 3 days last week. Definitely had thermals and a heavy coat on, but it was otherwise pleasant (8-10c and sunny days). Locals were saying this time of the year there are about 20-25% of the spring, summer, autumn crowds - and in the main areas there were often too many people as it was. That said a street off the beaten path and at different times we had roads and canals to ourselves. Tours/Attractions that sell out months in advance you could get the day of. Accommodation is almost half price. So this was a win win all round for us. Summer sounds like a nightmare for everyone.

        Most people complaining about Venice being a disappointment due to the excessive crowds are usually the ones who visit for one day and only do the touristic stuff and then leave. Maybe they don't even stay overnight… Recipe for disaster! I always say to anyone who's about to visit Venice, especially in summer: stay for at least 2-3 nights, do things slowly, with no rush, avoid St Marks sq and Rialto during the day, go anywhere else, turn the phone off and get lost in the streets - there's literally no street in Venice not worth seeing, and hundreds of little known museums or churches that are just unbelievable good. Go to the Biennale park. Go to Murano and Burano. Go visit St Marks sq and Rialto early in the morning (6-7 am) or late at night (10-11 pm) and you will enjoy them thoroughly with no crowds. Just magical. Visiting the st Marks Basilica and the Doge's palace are still 100% worth it, so pre-order your entrance ticket online and skip the lines and then after that go somewhere else.
        Every single person I know who followed these tips enjoyed thoroughly and for many Venice was the highlight of their trip to Italy.
