  • These are $24.19 and seem to have slightly better macros. Got some recently and these taste nice:

    • Whats ur opinion on mushashi bars?

      • musashi are no good, all of their bars partially use collagen protein, except for the protein crisp

        • Noob q butWhats the downside of collagen protein btw? Is it incomplete or maybe something else?

        • Where is your opinion coming from?

Taken from the Woolworth website for the Musashi high protein bar:

Musashi High Protein Blend (54%) Calcium Caseinate, Hydrolysed Collagen Protein, Soy Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate, Soy Protein Nuggets, Emulsifier (471), No Added Sugar Milk Chocolate (18%) Maltitol, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa Mass, Milk Solids, Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin), Flavour), Glycerol, Water, Flavours, Sweetener (Sucralose), Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin).

Also, if most of one's diet includes protein with complete aminoacids profile, even if the Musashi bars used only collagen protein - this is not an issue.

      • These ones, their macros are as solid as the bar itself:

        https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/869169

Though I washed the peanut butter one down with a choc peppermint oak for a "balanced" dessert.

        • Thanks, i love that mushashi flavour!

        • Musashi Protein quality is poorer than Quest's.

    • But only 50g/bar instead of 60g! Also, no easy-to-find nutrition label on Amazon.

I haven't had either … Just pointing it out.

    • I agree the muscle nation bars do taste nice, but what makes you say the macros are better?

    • the quest bars have 48% more protein per dollar, more fibre, less calories per gram of protein, and don't use (incomplete) collagen protein like the muscle nation. so no.

      • Consuming collagen through collagen bars can help support your skin, joints, hair, nails, bones and gut.

Besides, it's a treat mostly. I still get my main meal protein through eggs and protein powder.

        • Why are you being downvoted for saying you prefer to eat real food lol

    • Is that neg deal worthy? Bit harsh mate.

      • Dw, the collective hivemind triggered the bot to remove it lmao

    • The Muscle Nation bars use maltitol for the sweetener. I can't speak for everyone but maltitol wreaks havoc on my gut and causes really uncomfortable stomach cramps and bloating.

Quest products use erythritol and steviol glycosides which are much more gut friendly for some people

      • Agreed, I consider myself to have a strong stomach but musclenation bars can make me bloat etc.

    • these muscle nation ones are the cheaper milk protein concentrate so they'll make you full as hell compared to whey/milk protein isolate in quest fwiw

  • Are these vego friendly at all? I assumed not.

    • Why wouldn't they be?

Peanuts (25%), Protein Blend (25%) (Milk Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate), Prebiotic Fibre (Soluble Corn Fibre), Chocolate Flavour Chunks (14%) [Chocolate Liquor (5%), Sweeteners (Erythritol, Steviol Glycosides), Whey Protein Isolate, Cocoa Butter (2%), Sodium Caseinate, Emulsifier (Sunflower Lecithin), Flavour Enhancer (Sea Salt), Natural Flavours], Water, Natural Flavours, Sweeteners (Erythritol, Steviol Glycosides), Flavour Enhancer (Sea Salt).

      • I looked too and thought that, but I thought the same about muscle nation and then found out they weren't and have found out it isn't that easy to find vegetarian friendly protein bars. So just being cautious.

    • Yeah vegetables can eat them

  • Do these help you lose weight?

    • You're probably better off with the college protein ones for weightloss as you don't absorb as much therefore less calories are consumed.

    • Only of your dont eat them

    • Weight loss is very individualistic IMO so what works great for one person doesn't work at all for another. For me they are quite good, I used to find myself hungry at night and the midnight snack would destroy my weight loss goals some nights.
But because these feel dense and protein heavy and under my other snack calories so they help me a lot.

    • Weight loss - eating less calories than burning. Regardless of what you eat

    • in certain ways.

Weight loss = eat less energy + body use more energy.

so eating a protein bar itself will not lose weight, but gain.

but eating protein instead of carb will not trigger your blood sugar level as hard —- so if you eat protein instead of carb, you won't have a high sugar spike (make you feel sleepy), nor a huge dip of blood sugar level after the spike (which make you more hungry).

Eating protein bar (or even, a cucumber) would also make you feel full ish, so you will eat less food in a meal. That'd translate to a less energy intake. Eating raw cucumber or protein bar before the meal would also smooth out the blood sugar level (even if you eat the full meal), so you will feel less sleepy, and won't be hungry for longer, which would potentially reduce your chance of having another snack before next meal.

But be aware it doesn't help at all if you ate the protein bar then your entire regular meal, then the entire next meal etc…. that'll only make you gain weight.

  • Regular pricing and taste like cardboard. pass.

  • IMHO musashi cookies are the best

  • One 30g scoop of WPI gives you ~27g of protein for ~$1.91 (assuming purchasing 5 x 1kg WPI from BN, including $9 shipping), this is better than 20g protein for ~$2.50 per bar.

So it’s cheaper to just have one scoop of WPI when instead of having one of these bars. Additionally, you're getting a more easily digestible, larger amount of protein, with less filler of whatever’s added to make a bar.
