How exactly is this meh? It’s a decent points saving and lasts for nearly a whole year. It’s not like Qantas regularly discounts their reward fares, an offer like this comes up a few times a year at most.
Are you just jealous you don’t have enough points to make use of it?

Not OP but - using qantas points for economy domestic flights is very bad value, and in most cases, likely the 25% off still isn't good enough to make it worth spending your points this way.

Yeah disagree. If you were going to fly anyway and the value proposition of business class isn’t there for you, then I would argue it’s one of the best ways to redeem points

@jaypeee: Exactly. It’s only worse than the mythical International Business Classic Reward seats which are rare as hens teeth.
But it’s good value if you need a semi flexible domestic flight with baggage included. I’ve used them in emergencies to go see an ill family member where the points cost is fixed but the cash price is through the roof and got excellent value.

@stirlo: Don't forget the paid subscription to Gyoza/Expertflyer/Seats.aero just for the slim chance you can be alerted to scramble to use those points on those mythical Qantas seats.
Platinum here and I burn Qantas points on domestic economy flights like these. All this talk of "value" doesn't matter if the one booking it isn't planning on international business class flights anyway. Couldn't pay me to do all that legwork just to fly with Qantas. And if we're all talking about "value" then the "best" value for all those points is QF/EK First or a oneworld RTW
Don't need to have a second job, a paid subscription and sky-high surcharges to redeem with Krisflyer. Just earn Velocity points to transfer them to KF when you spot a redemption.

How will you know the points are 25% off? What's base usually? Looking for Melb to Adelaide and it's showing 5700 for Jetstar or 6500 for Qantas. Is that normal?

Normal is Qantas is 8000 (rising to 9200 after May) so the reduced price is showing already.
Jetstar normal price is 5700.

The points cost increased last year in August 2025. The normal price is now 9200 for 0-600 one way miles.

Ah, let this be a lesson to not trust AI when it tells you the price increase is happening… It was probably trained before the change took affect.

@stirlo: Errors seem to be a safe bet whenever I've noticed AI being quoted or used on OzBargain. The error rate is disturbing, although understandable when considering how it's trying to collate information from different sources and boil it down without being able to distinguish between important detail.

Domestically on legal terms but probably a different tier if it were to come to rewards flights on American carriers.
As for Greenland and Venezuela… probably just military flights for now.

Lord Howe people. Accommodation not cheap but if you partly self cater in an apartment in the shoulder season, this is a great opportunity. You can get four people on one rewards flight now that SmartLynx has taken over, but only one rewards flight a day

Damn, booked a May trip to Melbourne last week - would have used over 20k less QFF points with this offer!
Side trip to Hobart planned but Jetstar has better timing and no discount on points.

Is it better to redeem the classic rewards and then upgrade to business class later, or redeem the business class straight away?

For a 0-600 one-way miles redemption (which included standard Syd-Melb flight):
- Economy Rewards redemption = 9,200 points
- Business Rewards redemption = 19,300 points
- Economy redemption + Business upgrade = 24,200 points (being 9,200 points for the Economy redemption + 15,000 points for the upgrade).
So, way better to redeem Business straight away.
These are all pre-25% discount values - so even better value now.

Requesting to upgrade is the choice of last resort.
It costs more points (even with the 25% economy classic reward discount) and you are never guaranteed to get an upgrade, although being a high status member may help to some extent.
Also, if you're in Points Club or Points Club Plus you'll only earn status credits corresponding to the originally booked class, not any upgraded class.
So there is no reason to consider it when there is the option of booking a business class reward directly. (Of course, availability of business class rewards is another matter.)

Meh - usual Qantas rubbish.
- Increase Classic Rewards fares by ~15% last year
- Now offer a 'sale' - which is reality only amounts to a ~10-15% discount on what these fares were less than 9 months ago
- No Jetstar
- For the dates I checked, even 7 months in advance - the peak flights were unavailable (no flights or 6 Am)
