With the Sony $50 voucher this could be an insane deal

  • Will this fit a 2006 yaris?

    • +1

You need a new fascia (plastic trim pieces) to allow the space for a head unit, like this one: https://www.amazon.com.au/XTevu-2-Din-Fascia-Dash-Kit/dp/B0C…

You may also need some adapters/harnesses to allow the head unit to communicate with your car's electronics (like steering wheel buttons, for example).

An installer can help you with sourcing the additional components.

      • I actually already have the fascia and a double din stereo as stock, but it's a cd/radio and doesn't have bluetooth. In saying that, I didn't realise this was a targeted deal and can't even get it :D Thanks for the response though!

For future reference, your Yaris has a Toyota double DIN 200mm wide space. Standard ISO double DIN is 180mm wide. If you were to fit this Sony, you only need 10mm side trims, not a whole fascia. Example here.

  • I had a quick look, and it looks like you may need a couple of adaptors depending on your car to get steering wheel controls etc to work.

eg I jumped on this website and dialed up our car (Prado) and it looks like we will need $220+ of adaptors. I would leave our exisitng facia, but you may need a new facia depending on your car.

Can i use this as a home stereo with 12v transformer?

    • Why would you want that? This is probably factory tuned for shtty 5" paper car speakers.

    • I have two sets of unused car speakers that I've always wondered, "could I just make my own set of surround L+R speakers with these?"

      • +1

Yeah definitely. You could make up a couple of enclosures to screw them into and run them off your surround amp. Don't put wild expectations around sound quality and it would be a nice little project if you're into that type of thing.

      • Note car speakers are 4 ohm, home speakers are 8 ohm so be careful crossing home and car stuff. You may be better getting a pair of speakers from the side of the road in bring out your dead if you have it in your area!

    • Technically yes you could. Do you already have this unit and some speakers? Or is there a feature/s that would be useful to you?

    • +1

You could probably buy a decent stereo receive for like $100 on marketplace

  • Dang. Don't have it on my account. Would have got it…

    • Should be someone who are not using their codes and are willing to share?
I'm sure there is a different page to do so though

      • Oh, looks like no Android Auto. Nevermind…

  • +2

It doesn't seem to say anywhere on Sony's site that it's compatible with Android Auto, might be worth updating the description to clarify, unless anyone knows anything more

    • Edited. Thanks for flagging

    • Weird, the actual email has :
      "Seamless smartphone integration
Enjoy effortless access to your apps with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, keeping you connected, hands-free, and focused on the road.
      Learn More"

There is even a picture of Android Auto + Apple CarPlay in the email.

But then on the web site there is no mention of it.

Beware this uses resistive touch, ie it has an outer layer that you press in. Makes for a relatively poor experience if you're touching the headunit often. Also wouldn't go for a headunit without android auto, because even if you have an iPhone there might come a day where you (or a mate driving) has an Android phone.

With that said, this is a great price.

    • I've never once had a mistouch with my Sony head unit that also uses resistive. I've had it for 6 years now. Sure, it doesn't look as nice as capacitive touch screens but it's performed flawlessly.

    • +1

I have one of the resistive ones, the touch is not so bad BUT it's completely unreadable once sun hits it.

I moved that one to the second car and got a nicer Sony headunit with capacitive screen. Massive difference.

      • Yes! I have one in my Dmax and have to hold my hand over to give the screen shade else I can't read it.

  • Anyone have a code they'd like to give me?

    • +1

Yep got a code I won't be using.

Are you able to turn on private messaging so I can get it to you?
(My Account (menu) —> Settings (menu option) —> messaging (grey tab) —> 'Allow private messages'

Edit: Nevermind - heaps of others posting their codes

      • can i have your code please?

  • Have been tempted by CarTablet rather than going down this path.
I have seen a few complaints and the price does seem a bit too good to be true.

    https://getcartablet.com/en-au

Anyone got experience to share with CarTablet or similar?

    • Personally I would avoid them depending the area you live in or where you park.
Those devices make it a perfect for thieves to smash your window and walk off with those dash mounted things

  • i have a code

    • can i have your code please?

  • +1

I got a code, anyone interested can pm me.

  • XAVAX-5NQ2-TM45-2KD4-3SFGM

  • Enjoy! unfortunately I need android auto.

    XAVAX-XZP2-GC7L-PZ43-BHC9C

  • XAVAX-4DZB-K6ML-R774-7S4VK

  • If you're going to the effort and expense to install this with harnesses and ears and whatever else it needs, pay a little more and install something decent

    • How much decent do you want? might as well upgrade the car? :)

      • This thing is the bottom of the barrel. Your car deserves better. You deserve better. It's not even compatible with Android, the most ubiquitous touchscreen operating system in the world

Can someone post a screenshot of the email saying it has Android Auto?

I bought this because I was led to believe it had AA

Looking at their manual. It doesn’t seem to have Android https://helpguide.sony.net/ev/xav-ax3700/v1/en/search/search…

  • The Sony Xav-Ax4000 from Bankstown Sound is a better deal at $495 including rear camera.
It is Apple Carplay And Android Auto Wireless. https://www.bankstownsound.com.au/product/sony-xav-ax4000/
Super cheap Auto will also price match with out the camera for $494.00

  • Made in Japan? Or PhONeY?

  • XAVAX-MKC3-SSG2-2QKW-Q2G3X

    XAVAX-PHXK-P676-7P2T-9WVNW

Please comment if you used it.

  • Weird.

Website says nothing about android, yet look at the box….

    https://imgur.com/a/RuJGGp8

    • Works with Android and Android Auto are two different things.

The former just means that if you connect your phone Bluetooth, calls and audio will work - and you’ll be able to sync your device so your contacts and music library will be viewable through the head unit

  • No mention of Android in the compatibility side of the manual

    https://imgur.com/a/BJGZzV8

  • anyone got a code i can have?

    • PM me

Actually, did you check the two codes I posted above?

      • Yeah they’re both used :(

        • Sad when people just take tbh.
