    Why E.Tel?

We offer instant eSIM delivery (QR code via email) with no lock-on contracts, no roaming billshocks. We’re your choice for reliable local networks in each destination, all with simple prepaid pricing.

I'm pretty sure every other travel eSIM are like this.

    • +1

Fair call! A lot of travel eSIM do have similar offerings now. Where we try to stand out is on pricing, support and aussie based support.

      • +1

Does E.Tel offer instant support via Whatsapp or similar for customers, especially when running into issues overseas since calling an Aussie line can be extremely costly or impossible? If not, will it be offered in the future as many of the other eSIM sellers offer 24/7 live support? Live support has been a lifesaver in the past.

  • Is there an activation expiry?

    • -5

There is no activation expiry, activate any time.

      • +9

on your website, it says "you must start using your eSim within 90 days of purchase. If the eSim isn't activated after 90 days, it will expire and will no longer work"

        • Cheers for pointing that out @salingpusa
I'm going to cancel and seek a refund to be safe!

          • @Empharand: If you’d like to proceed with a refund, feel free to reply here (or live chat) with your order number and we’ll sort that out for you.

And if you decide to come back closer to your trip, you’re more than welcome. We’re happy to honour the 40% off again when you’re ready.

            • @ETel Mobile: We're going overseas in June (Asia and Europe), would love to purchase now but can't with the 90 day activation window. Would you be running a 40% promo again close to mid year?

      • Correction: Confirmed internally that activation is required within 90 days of purchase. Apologies for the earlier confusion, and thanks to @salingpusa for flagging it.

  • What are the 15 countries.

    • Are you referring to the 18 countries covered in Asia? - Countries are: China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Macao, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand and Cambodia.

If you are enquiring about something else, please let us know!

      • Does this cover Singapore?

        • Singapore isn’t included in this plan.

That’s an error in the post and we have updated it now.

  • Do I need a VPN to use Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube with your China eSIM?

    • No, you don’t need a VPN :)

  • do you guys offer Asia eSim for 60 days?

    • Not at the moment but it’s on our roadmap.

The closest option is purchasing 2 × 20GB 30-day plans, which gives 40GB over 60 days for $57.80. That works well for most longer trips, as long as 40GB is enough.

      • thanks. after the 30 days will i need to scan another QR code to activate the 2nd 30-day plan or will it be able to roll-over by itself?

  • Is it Australian IP address, can you do Optus Vodafone VoLte/VoWifi with this SIM?

    • But even if it supports VoWiFi I can't imagine it being useful. Most of these types of eSIMs do not include a number

      • The 2nd SIM with Australian IP would enable VoWifi/VoLTE for Optus/Vodafone plans, very useful if you aren't paying for roaming charge

  • Hi i jave ordered esim but typed in wrong email can you help me

  • ASIA Travel eSIM
Covers up to 18 countries, including Japan, China (VPN-free), Singapore, Thailand, HK, etc

But on your website, it lists Asia (12 Countries) and doesn't include Singapore

    https://apply.etel.com.au/travelesim/asia

    • Thanks for pointing that out.

The Asia eSIM currently covers 12 countries (as listed on our website), and Singapore isn’t included in this plan.

That’s an error in the post, we have updated it now and appreciate the call-out!

  • can i access tiktok with the japan esim?

    • You sure can, tiktok is fully accessible in Japan.

  • Any refunds offered if OP (whom I assume is a store rep) gives wrong info, resulting in an expired SIM without use?

    • Surely this is a yes even if anyone tells you otherwise?

    • +1

This is what it says in the eSIM T&Cs:

      5.1 Refunds
5.1.1 You may request a refund or replacement if technical issues prevent installation or use.
5.1.2 Refund requests must be made within 30 days of purchase, and you must cooperate in troubleshooting.
5.1.3 No refunds apply to expired data packages.
5.1.4 Fraudulent or unauthorised transactions will not be refunded.
5.1.5 Approved refunds will be credited back to the original payment method.

And this is what it says about liability from inaccuracies:
      2.1 Liability
2.1.1 To the fullest extent permitted by law, E.Tel is not responsible for any loss or damage you may suffer
from use of our website, products, or services, including reliance on third-party content, links, or
      advertisements.
2.1.2 You are responsible for ensuring that any product or service you purchase meets your personal
requirements. Information provided may contain errors, and E.Tel excludes liability for inaccuracies
to the maximum extent permitted by law.

Take from that what you will. Obviously these don't override any consumer protections you may have, but do you really want to go to the effort of fighting for a $30 refund?

    • Hi freekay, apologies for the delayed response, yes most definitely there would be a refund in that case. If you'd like to request a refund, simply give us a call on 1300 383 588 or email us at support@etel.com.au, one of our friendly staff will be happy to help!

Haha, I remember having an E.Tel DSL service back in the day. Dropped out all the time and I learnt so much about troubleshooting and networking because of it. I churned away as soon as I was contractually able though.

I am travelling in about 8 weeks and was willing to give this a try, want to get multiple eSIMs but there's no cart functionality, it just makes me buy one at a time. Even worse, it wants to charge a 2% surcharge for Master/Visa. I don't think I remember paying for this with TravelKon or Simify, but it's been a while since I've travelled so I could be wrong.

Then I read the T&Cs and Fair Use Policy (since it makes you confirm that you have read them) and it turned me off even more because they're clearly for domestic plans and even the Fair Use policy is dated 2019.

I'll still give it a go despite the inconsistencies between rep vs. website information, poor user experience, crappy surcharge etc. I feel like I might be inviting some pain but I hope to be wrong so that I can support a "local" business. Wish me luck.

    • because they're clearly for domestic plans

What do you mean by this?

      • I am actually incorrect and I mean that only the Fair Use policy dated 2019 is meant for domestic MVNO plans. In it, it references taking calls, receiving SMSs, bolt-on data, PAYG data rates, making telemarketing calls, sending bulk/spam SMSs etc. all of which you cannot do from these travel eSIMs.

The T&Cs themselves are specifically for the eSIMs.

        • Ah ok so they just haven't updated their links lol

    • Appreciate the detailed feedback. And yes, the old E.Tel DSL days were a long time ago 😅. We now have a much more reliable NBN service available with no lock-in contract.

You’re right, there are separate T&Cs on our site, one for mobile services and one for travel eSIMs. The Fair Use Policy dated 2019 applies only to mobile plans, not travel eSIMs (which are data-only). We agree the way it’s currently linked could be clearer and we’re cleaning that up.

The cart limitation and card surcharge feedback is also fair. Both are on our list to improve.

Thanks for giving us another go and supporting a local business. We hope your trip goes smoothly, and we’re very reachable if anything comes up.

  • Bought as going overseas end of Feb.
    Hopefully no issues with activation!

    • Thanks for your support!

You can install the eSIM anytime before you leave. Once you arrive at your destination, just turn on the esim, turn on mobile data and data roaming and it’ll activate automatically.

If you run into any issues at all, we’re easy to reach and happy to help.

    • I installed mine just the day before I left and once I arrived it was all ready to go!

As long as you have enough days on your plan!
Mine was 30 days and I was using for about 2 weeks plus

  • @TravelKon Price beat for Japan/Asia? :D

    Is Tethering / Hotspot allowed?

    • Yes, tethering/hotspot is allowed.

  • Travelling to China, to use VPN Free need to select the ASIA Travel eSIM? Or from the China one you can also get to Gmail?

    • +1

Both China and Asia sim do not require any VPN to access gmail and other websites

  • @ETel Mobile Hi, can you please tell us what mobile carrier does your Japan eSIM use?

    • The Japan eSIM uses Softbank and KDDI. The network may switch between the two based on availability and speed. You can adjust this in your device settings.

  • Wow, bargain price! I used their travel sim recently in Vietnam, easy activation and pretty quick.

    • So great to hear, thanks for your support!

  • +1

Hi rep, with the eSIMs that cover Hong Kong, do they require that Real-Name Registration thing? Or is it somehow bypassed ? It’s not mention anywhere your site, thanks

    • Hi bowtiehoon, as of the time of writing, all our travel eSIMs are data-only services with no phone number attached, and you are not required to provide any ID documents. Feel free to give us a call on 1300 383 588 or email us at support@etel.com.au if you have any further queries!

  • Was looking to buy a couple esims for japan, what region does it cover? and how fast is it

    • Hi Z09z0z0, our Japan eSIMs cover the whole country using the 5G KDDI and 5G Softbank networks. The eSIM will connect to whichever network has the best signal. Speed will vary depending on where exactly you are, distance to cell towers, and service density, but I'd say it is fast :)

      • just bought 4, hopefully it works in rural japan + the cities

        • Hi Z09z0z0 thanks for your purchase, we believe the service will be great but please definitely reach out to us if you need any support by giving us a call on 1300 383 588, or contact our livechat at etel.com.au, or email support@etel.com.au :)

    Hi @ETel Mobile

With the unlimited data SIMs, is there a cap on how much data per day (or whole period) that is not speed limited?

In the past, some unlimited SIMs are full speed for first 5Gb of the day, then speed capped @ 1.5Mbps etc, and was wondering if that'd be the case here

    Thanks

    • I'm very curious on this too, bit concerning that they haven't replied to you as they have been quite active here.
It's fair if they want to put on a cap, but just mention it.

    • +1. There's no explanation on the website.

  • +2

Would not recommend. Bought the unlimited eSIM and am currently using it in Vietnam but have constant drop outs and very slow speeds despite being on 5G

    • which city are you in ?

      • I was in Hanoi and now went to Ho Chi Minh. I’ve just gotten a local Viettel SIM card for under $10 and 5gb/day. Would highly recommend going to direct to the source rather than deal with this headache

    • Sorry to hear this, that’s frustrating especially while travelling.

Please reach out to our team support@etel.com.au with your order number and we’ll assist immediately. In most cases, drop-outs or slow speeds can be resolved quickly with a network refresh or settings check.

      • I’ve already bought another sim directly from Viettel as it was making travelling unnecessarily difficult. My other friends using KLOOK had no such issue which made me regret my decision more

        • +1

Sorry to hear about the experience, that's definitely not what we want when you're travelling. If you’re open to it, please reach out to us with your order number and we can either issue a replacement eSIM or arrange a refund, whichever you prefer.

Appreciate you giving us a try, and thanks for the honest feedback.

  • Does anyone know if you'll need a phone number in VN? i note the plan says data only

    • +1

It’s a data-only eSIM, so no local phone Vietnamese number is included.

Data works for WhatsApp, iMessage, Google Maps, Grab, browsing, social apps, etc.

If you specifically need SMS or local calling, you’d need to keep your Aussie SIM active or use a separate local SIM alongside it.

  • I am after China and Japan in March. Which esim shall I buy? Tq.

  • Hi there, if I purchase the Asia package, can I use it during my layover in China before continuing on to Korea? Just checking if the same SIM works in both countries.

    • Hi there, Asia covers both China and Korea, so you can connect during your layover and it will continue to work once you arrive in Korea.

  • Such a good deal. I bought the 15 day unlimited Asia eSIM as I'm doing Japan & Korea.

Can you explain how the expiry works? Is it (15 * 24 hours) from the time of first usage/activation? For example if I arrive in Japan activate and start use on 01 Apr 2026 at 1:00pm, does it expire 16 Apr 2026 at 1:00pm (Japan time)? If that's how it works, then I should be sorted for my trip 24 Apr to 9 May.

    • Usually, the day you arrive at your destination and connect to its network is counted as Day 1. So if you start using it on 1 Apr at 1 PM, your 15-day eSIM plan will expire on 15 Apr 23:59.

  • thanks bought 2x Euro&UK e-sims.

    • +1

Thank you for your support, happy travelling!

  • Hi,
What are the roaming speeds for Asia esim and is there a cap on speed per day for the unlimited plans?

  • Currently using their 10 day unlimited Asia esim. Have been throttled to 0.11Mbps, not the 5Mbps advertised.
