I was looking for a good deal from the Middle East back to Sydney for next year's holidays and found this gem. Seems to be a significantly cheaper than market price. For example, 13 January 2027 showing as $1,954 and 14 January 2027 showing as $1,985. Hopefully some people can take advantage of it before the price changes!

    Sri Lankan airways are pretty notorious for cancelling flights. Not sure I’d be relying on them if you had a hard deadline to get home for.

      Flights to Australia are rarely cancelled, but they are certainly notorious for overbooking on economy. The compensation is decent though, fly the next available day in business class and a free ticket valid for 365 days.

      Saudi Arabia is fine. Not great tourist infrastructure, but hotels and transport are decent enough. Well worth a week or two, and check out some of the neighbours (Bahrain, Oman).

          Bullshit. There’s an extensive domestic airline network and SAPTCO buses go just about everywhere. Trains are more limited but they’re fast and comfortable where they do run.

              @abc: I used local buses - which aren’t great - or taxis. I walked a fair bit, too, since I enjoy soaking up the streets when I travel. Logging 35km around Jeddah on a 45-degree day was fun but wiped me out. Taxis are plentiful and will set your back around $15 for a 5km city trip.

              So, yes, local transport options in Saudi towns are limited if you’re poor and mobility impaired.

      Not sure everyone downvoted u, but i was checked at the airport when i landed in Riyadh ( had a work visa) n was told i cannot carry photos of Buddha. And i keep constantly asked by some random people on why i was wearing a gold ring. My wife was chased by Religious police for not covering her head, even though she was wearing Abaya. I Was scolded by the police once during prayer time as why i wasnt praying n outside. This was in 2019, not sure how much has changed nw though.

        Apparently it’s more liberal now and they have made a deliberate attempt as such.

        Stories like yours are downers, though. I’m sure some of it is still like that.

          I was visiting relos who work there late last year travelled the west coast and had a completely opposite experience to the poster you replied to. I didn't see any "religious police". I felt safer walking on the street late at night than I do in AU. Maybe because it's a "dry" country and everything is open until early hours so there are a lot of people out.

          At the airport they do scan all your fingerprints though along with the standard photo ID.

            @abc: I was there in 2023 - Dammam, Riyadh, Jeddah, and elsewhere.I found the people friendly and helpful, though foreign language skills are severely lacking. Never had any issues with officials

          I think u wouldn't notice these things if ur just visiting for a few days or not going to the older part of Riyadh. I just remembered another instance where i was waiting in the line in ikea Riyadh to pay n suddenly a saudi guy came n ordered (!!) me to tell my wife to cover her head with the scarf. Things like wouldnt change, but apart from these small incidents, life was good, safe, was able to buy an V8 engine American car, spend like millionaire.

        Was there 2 years ago. No requirement to cover head. Alula very interesting and tourists well managed.

        It's hardly a "few" hours to Riyadh. 15 hours+ which I'd argue business is more worthwhile on one of these longer hauls

        Look at Air Canada Aeroplan. They have up to 100% bonus points offer till 16 Feb. Fairly good availability with very low carrier charges.

    so annoying they don't put the flight code on their website when you've selected the flight. C, B, I or J will earn 60 QANTAS status credits but apparently they have a Z class which is no credits

      Yes this is very poor. Best way to find the flight class after you book is to ring Sri Lanka office and ask them to send you a confirmation. It will come from Amadeus and include the flight classes.

    As a newbie to Skyscanner, I have a question to see if anyone can educate me!

    I've set a Skyscanner alert, and then received an email the next day to advise that the flight is now cheaper. However, the "cheaper" flight does not include checked baggage, and with baggage selected was the same price. I deleted the alert and created a new one where I definitely had checked baggage selected before creating the alert, and the same thing happened.

    Is this standard? Is there a way of ensuring the pricing on alerts includes checked baggage?
