Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra 14.6" Wi-Fi 256GB (Grey) $1049 (Was $2099) + Delivery ($0 C&C/ In-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

750

Good deal for a cracking tablet. Looks like Joyce Mayne has price matched so far.

14.6" OLED screen
MediaTek dimensity processor

People will complain that's it's not Snapdragon, but the only negatives I've heard about dimensity is for emulation.

Not that some retailers, eg TGG, have this tablet listed as clearance. So Samsung may not be replenishing stock.

    Clear the stocks apparently

      the 1tb 5g model is still 3k though i wouldn't touch anything under 1tb for a tablet.

      • +1

        Is it expandable using microsd?

        • -3

no idea but it would be too slow for apps and i am not going to root the device just so i can save apps to a sd card.

          • @kungfuman: I have used about half of the 512 GB on my tablet so I wouldn't want to drop to 256 GB. I guess an SD is an option.
Fortunately, my Tab S9+ is still going strong, so I am not looking to upgrade any time soon. Maybe after another couple of years if nothing goes horribly wrong with this one.

        • yes

      • +8

Why? You wouldn't be recording video or taking many photos on a tablet. What in earth is going to take up all that space? SD is good enough to download Netflix shows to.

  • +1

Not bad, I don't play the indie games so not fussed about chipset for that. How is the day to day tasks compared to SD? Currently have a Tab S9.

    • +1

Day to day it will perform really well

    • What are day to day tasks for you?

Are you saying compared to a steam deck?

  • +8

I've got one. Awesome tablet, this is overpriced - been available via ozbargain links in the past for wayyy cheaper.

    • +1

Let me just fire up my time machine…

      • +9

I hear you but at around ~$450 with free book cover and a trade-in, waiting is I suspect a decent perspective, especially in light of the fact it's had a new model release for awhile now. Just my opinion. I didn't pay anything like this. Nor did I get that cheap deal posted here awhile back.

        • +1

The 1tb model was $998 at Amazon just a month ago as well

        • +16

That sub $500 deal was unicorn stuff. Highly unlikely to be repeated. And I believe the tab s10s are being discontinued, so waiting probably won't help.

Sure, there's some chance you'll get one just under $1k again before they're all gone, but there's also a decent chance you won't.

          • +11

@wombat81: Yeah it was a double trade-in bonus glitch via the CBA app (Yello). Orders were cancelled.

            • +11

@wishing well: Yes orders were cancelled

            • +11

@wishing well: Some ozbargainers live in lala land, if they are relying on an pricing error/typo/glitch and making it believe that is going to he the norm price as an expectation

          • @wombat81: i got mine for sub 500 and traded in my s9ultra for a total of 40$ it got canceled by samsung as a price error

  • +3

Missing deals on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 Plus.

    • It was ~ $1050 on the Samsung store about a week ago. But it hardly ever gets discounted.

  • +5

    Amazing tablet

  • +2

You could have got this price on Samsung last year. I got two of these ( different months) with a free keyboard for the same price

      • +18

It is useful to know that while this is the current best price for it it's not really good value for this particular tablet. There has been a ton of better deals for it in the past so if anyone is on the fence it's best to not get this right now as it's definitely nowhere near the previous deals.

        • -1

Surely ozbargainers just click on the device in the Related Products section of the post to see all of the previous deals to get an idea of how good it bad this deal is? Is that not standard practice? I always assumed that's why that section existed.

People commenting "I remember a better deal for this 2 years ago" isn't that useful IMO. For example old mate further up trying to say that you shouldn't be paying over $500 for this tablet because there was a price error deal once (which wasn't honoured anyway).

Anyway, each to their own, I guess. But if you really want to compare a deal to previous deals, the link in the Related Products section is the best way to do it rather than relying on random comments.

Also, as I said elsewhere, some stores are listing this tablet as a clearance item which suggests to me that Samsung are no longer producing it and are running out remaining stock. So it's unlikely that there will be better deals in the future, IMO.

On top of that, the previous good deals were due to large trade in bonuses from Samsung. They haven't done a decent trade in bonus for quite a while now which suggests to me that they've finally decided to stop people taking advantage of that system. So, again, I feel like it's unlikely that we'll see the types of deals we've seen previously, especially on this particular model.

      • +3

He's not even saying this is bad value. Just stating there had been better deals
To be fair last year's $1000 was worth more than today's $1000

  • +2

Don't forget 4% off jb hifi gift cards via Macquarie bank if you have acces to it.

I got an S11 Ultra from Samsung Education Portal for $773 last year in October.

      • +2

I think you need some sleep, bud

        • Yeah probably. Comments are frustrating me.

          Thank you

    • More details please

      • They were running it cheap for a bit and $400 additional trade credit and a bunch of other crap.

        • Why do people compare outright purchase prices to trade-ins?

  • I was once fascinated by the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra but didn't end up buying it. Now it's the S10 Ultra—how time flies.

    • S11 range is the latest, 10 is last years model.

  • +1

Itis not a tablet but a laptop. 14'' seriously!

    • Yes it's a big boi

  • +1

These are awesome tabs, but I’ve commented on its shortcomings before. I sold mine - just as a side note, these are worth absolutely nothing used. I got $550 for my 2 week old one, and that was after a month of it sitting online. So glad a product like this exists, but know its limitations and also be prepared to use it til death.

    • -7

Are you going to comment on it's short comings again? Or just leave us to guess?

Trading them into Samsung or JB hi-fi to get a good trade in bonus is generally the best way to move them on.

      • +10

Normally people just ask for more info if they want it. Online forums aren't for you… hope you aren't as rude in person.

        • -1

Well I'm not sure why you'd make the comment about shortcomings but then not say what they are? But just complain about how worthless it is?

          • +1

@wombat81: Genuinely, would you like me to elaborate? Because I’m a chatter, and it’ll be a long winded reply. I just thought the average ozbargainer would’ve lurked my post history for my last comment.

I’m not complaining - I’m being realistic. Resale value is important to some people…

            • @jackary: I just found your original comment hard to understand. I saw it as "great tablet, but I hated it, and it's worthless". It seemed all pretty contradictory.

Was the main reason you didn't like it because you prefer iOS?

              • @wombat81: Sure, well despite the fact that you’re still being quite rude, I’m happy to answer your question.

Not an iOS vs android thing, however in the tablet space it really is no competition. Multi-window works better on iPadOS with version 26, there’s a swathe more apps for iPadOS, and the standby power drain is pretty much unbeatable, regardless of the iPad you pick. I have a Z Fold 7 which is awesome but to say that android on tabs is as good as iPadOS would be completely fanciful.

Some issues I encountered with my tab:
                - As keeps getting parroted, emulation is not the tabs strong suit. Operator error here, I should have done more research before buying
                - Issues with wifi connectivity - throughput wasn’t as good as my Surface Pro 12 or any recent Apple device in the household, but more problematic was the dropouts. I spent a week of my 2 week ownership trying to work out what the hell the problem was, to no avail. Using an Eero Pro 7 at home with around 30 devices connected flawlessly, this tab just seemed to hate it.
                - DeX is slowly becoming rubbish - features are getting removed with each software update and it’s functionally nowhere near as good as it once was
                - S-Pen is an optional extra (on a tab this price, wtf?)
                - I touched on this in an earlier comment but “aftermarket” things are quite hard to come by - screen protectors, cases etc. When it comes time to sell, a lot of the usual suspects simply won’t buy them to begin with, limiting your options (and return) when it comes time to sell/upgrade
                - I bit the bullet and got the fancy keyboard case with trackpad. It was fanstastic, but also $350. Add in the cost of the tablet and you could buy a MacBook Air or similar windows computer and have a much more powerful computer.
                - Battery life is… let’s say suboptimal - both in use and during standby - both of these are important as realistically this will be a “portable content consumption” device.

The biggest issue issue though however is the software. I love android, so this is not an Apple v Samsung thing, but Android on the Samsung tab makes absolutely no use of the additional screen real estate. Perhaps more an android thing than Samsung, but what’s the point of having a giant display, if it’s only being utilised by blank space within apps? Android on tablets has been neglected for some time and I don’t see that changing any time soon.

Referring to something I mentioned earlier, I don’t see any other use case for this other than media consumption. It doesn’t have the powerful creative apps of iOS while also being realistically too big to use as anything other than a “sitting on the couch” tablet.

I mentioned in my comment on the other post that I feel this device is a one trick pony, and I stand by that. It’s fantastic for watching Netflix on the balcony (which is all I ended up using it for), pretty rubbish at everything else. In my particular case I ended up replacing it with a cheap ffalcon 55 incher. It seems ridiculous to say that but big screens are cheap. Built in chromecast for an easy-ish experience, and it was $399, so if it only lasts 2 years out there before dying, who cares? I’m still ahead on owning one of these

                • @jackary: I can understand OP's frustrations when people say it has shortcomings but don't mention what they are as it doesn't help the discussion. It frequently happens on OzB and just looks like the comment is just dumping on OP's deal. Your comment wasn't exactly like that as you do suggest learning about its limitations first which I agree with, but after reading some of the other comments above I can see why OP was frustrated.

It would have been helpful if you linked to your earlier comments, but anyway this is a good example of "different people use their devices differently".

I don't expect to use my tablet as a laptop replacement. I use my Tab S8 Ultra as an A4-sized notepad with OneNote, media consumption, occasional web browsing, and Lightroom. I don't use the included S Pen as I prefer the feel of my Lamy pen. It works great for what I want in a tablet. A 55" TV would not be able to replace it at all because I don't just sit in my living room to use it.

I've never cared or thought about emulation so issues for me there,

I don't know about connectivity on the S10 but have no connectivity problems at all with my S8 Ultra, S9, and S11.

I used to care about accessories years ago then realised the only thing I use is a good case. Cases and tempered glass screen protectors are very easy to get on AliExpress or Amazon even for my old S7+ and S8 Ultra.

                  • I bit the bullet and got the fancy keyboard case with trackpad. It was fanstastic, but also $350. Add in the cost of the tablet and you could buy a MacBook Air or similar windows computer and have a much more powerful computer.

Have you seen the price of the iPad keyboard? Add that to the price of the 13" 256GB iPad and you're at $2.7k, or $3,050 with the 512GB model.

Getting $550 for your 2-week old one seems like a listing problem. Where did you list it? What was your description and photos like? Why didn't you list it on eBay?

At the end of the day, we all use our devices differently. What is a one-trick pony to you might suit someone else's multiple tasks just fine. That's why I think it's helpful to explain or link to its shortcomings rather than just say it has shortcomings without describing them.

                  • @eug: Thanks - I mostly agree with what you’ve said. And thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it.

I agree with you, different people use their devices differently - however surely you’d have to agree, with a tablet of this size, that scope is much narrower?

Can’t really address a lot of what you’ve mentioned as I’m on mobile and typing out a long response would kill me, but I do appreciate your POV.

I should say - it was replaced with a TV AND an iPad.

                • -1

                  @jackary:

S-Pen is an optional extra (on a tab this price, wtf?)

An s-pen is included with all the Galaxy S tabs, is it not? The S10 ultra certainly comes with one. It's apple that makes us pay extra for a stylus.

Your comparisons with a Surface Pro aren't really relevant. While they're both "tablets" a surface is a very different device to an Android tablet.

you could buy a MacBook Air or similar windows computer and have a much more powerful computer.

IMO this viewpoint doesn't make sense. If you want a laptop, buy a laptop. It's a bit like saying "this bag of oranges costs about the same as a Domino's pizza, so why would I but the oranges?" or "I could get a Mercedes for the same cost as this bobcat, why would I buy the bobcat?"

They're different categories of devices with different use-cases. Just because they cost a similar amount doesn't mean they should do the same job.

As I read your reasoning it felt more and more like you bought this tablet hoping it would do a laptops job, so I'm not really surprised that you didn't like it.

You're obviously welcome to your opinions, and everyone has their own usages, expectations etc. I use my S10FE for work productivity all the time and find it really useful. It doesn't replace my laptop, and I don't expect it to, but in some situations it's a much more usable device.

      • Sometimes you can’t win. If I just rehashed what I said previously, you’d have said I was a parrot.

Trading in a Tab S10 Ultra to Samsung will always be a bad deal - the value is in the bonus trade in credit which is why people trade in $1 headphones, etc. Can’t comment on trading in with JB Hi-Fi but I do know you get a gift card, not cash. A lot of the usual trade-in or “sell your device” sites won’t take one of these in the first place…

        • +1

An S10 ultra is currently worth $720 to trade into Samsung which, to me, is a bit more than absolutely nothing. Get a $500 trade in bonus deal and you're getting great value to trade in your s10u.

          • @wombat81: With the catch being that you have to buy another Samsung product. What if you’re getting rid of it because you hated the Samsung experience?

Let’s say you want to SELL it - you’ve decided you want an iPad now. What’s it worth then?

        • +1

Do check with JB though, cause Samsung is a rort lol.

As an example, trading in my tab s9 would get be $195 at Samsung AU, but JB trade in value is $380???
Of course Samsung is only better, when they provide extra bonus trade in credit (~$400-$500) during a promo.

    • Curious why did you sell it?

    • +2

      What were the issues?

And where are they for $550, i'd pay that for one.(depending on what your issues were). I only see them starting at $1k on ebay used.

  • I bought two of these a few years back. Use them for digital signage for work when I'm exhibiting on a show floor.

Run a video on it on repeat and manage to play it for 8 hours straight on full brightness.

  • +3

$2k RRP is insane to me

    • Yeah. All Samsung RRPs are insane. You should never pay anywhere near full RRP for a Samsung mobile device.

    • +1

      Dont look at ipads then.

  • +1

I purchased this in the Black Friday sales and without doubt this is probably the best thing I've bought in the last few years. It's an amazing device and I use it daily as a third monitor for my Windows laptop. If you are going overseas, then JB duty free has it at another $100 discount.

  • +5

Use it daily as a 14.6-inch 3K AMOLED 900 nits HDR second monitor PC display with the SuperDisplay app. Connect a usb-c to the PC and it auto extends/mirrors like any other second monitor. Via wifi it becomes a mobile Win11 slate powered by the full capabilities of the home PC. Unbelievable functionality.

Oh and it doubles as a pretty handy android tablet.

    • +1

      Yeah it's brillant!

    • Via wifi it becomes a mobile Win11 slate powered by the full capabilities of the home PC

Can you explain this in more detail please

      • +1

SuperDisplay creates a virtual monitor on the pc and streams it to the tablet via the home network. But it's not just a viewing screen, Windows was designed to support touch input along with pressure sensitive styluses (like Samsung's s-pen).

So you can relax on the lounge watching the cricket while editing in Photoshop using a stylus. It basically turns it into a Windows tablet if you want that functionality at home.

        • thanks - so basically Remote Desktop but with pen functionality

          • @vk4ma: Kind of but it uses a virtual display instead of just cloning the desktop. This has advantages such as custom resolutions (2960 x 1848 pixels, 16:10), frame rates, extend/mirror, etc.

  • I got this last year upon launch and it has been such a great tablet with a great anti-reflective display.

    • The tab s11 was launched last year, so I assume that's what you got.

  • Worth upgrading for tab s9 ultra?

    • +1

Probably not. Many would say the SD chip in the S9 is better.

    • Yes, just for the anti-reflective screen. It's an absolutely perfect screen now.

  • Very tempting, but I feel it will go lower.

  • Bought this one now. Not many choices in premium android tablet segment.
You have Samung S series tablet and then there is Lenovo Yoga Tab plus and then OnePlus Pad 3 which isnt officially sold in Australia.

Lenovo Yoga Tab plus and OnePlus Pad 3 have high quality LCD screen rather than OLED.

Lenovo Yoga Tab plus only 1 year warranty and short software support.

OnePlus Pad 3 no official warranty in australia and software support is also not long.

On half price of S10 Ultra, the price of all 3 tablets is close to each other.

OLED screen and long software support plus 2 year warranty convinced me to go S10 Ultra.
