Currently own the Odin 2 Max and tempted to upgrade to the Portal for the OLED Screen.

Also still deciding if I should get the AYN Thor instead for the dual screen.

Worth noting that the Pro and Max are basically the same price previously with coupons (which has been removed).

    • Is the dual screen implementation any good for ds/3ds now
Retroid pocket 4 doesn't handle dual screen(side by side) too well

      • From what I've seen/tested on my Odin 2, it's getting alot better (Would be better on a dual screen device). MelonDS for DS and Azahar for 3DS.

Alternatively, since you have the Retroid Pocket, you can get Retroid Dual Screen add-on for a second screen. Forgot they removed the Pocket 4 as a supported device. It still works, just janky and may require some DIY/Mods.

  • Im trying to figure out what they mean by 3D curved touchscreen. I can't see any curve in the screen itself, unless it was like the early Samsungs with the curved edge. Do they mean the curved outside.

    • The top is basically a single piece of glass that curved.

Calling it a 'curved' touch screen is a stretch.

If you're contemplating whether this is for you, just start with your Android phone or tablet.

Pair with a controller like Gamesir G8+ (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/946062)

How does it compare to a Retroid Pocket 5 which can be had for about $50 less.

    • -7

where can it be had for $50 or less?

    • +2

The Odin 2 Portal has the SD8 Gen 2 Chip, while the Retroid Pocket 5 has the SD865 (SD8 Gen 2 is better).

A more similar comparison would the Retroid Pocket 6, which has the same chipset.

Fun fact, both AYN and Retroid are owned by the same parent company - Moorechip Technologies.

      • Which is better, the G2/Retroid 6, or this one? Upgrading from a very slow Retroid 3 (not plus)

        • +2

IMO, the Odin 2 Portal would be the better purchase (but it's also more expensive). It has a bigger screen and battery.

If you want portability then go the Retroid G2/RP6.

If I would have to rank the three devices:

          Odin 2 Portal>RP6>G2

    • Fair bit more powerful, but whether that matters depends on what you’re playing. It’ll matter for some systems, and won’t for others if you’re just doing SNES and the like. If you want to do Winlater then the headroom is likely helpful. Portal 2 is very significantly larger than the RP5, which can be both a pro or a con. RP5 feels very small compared to many other handhelds.

I like both, but if I was to pick one I’d go the Portal 2 for the power, and because I tend to game at home so portability isn’t such a big issue. The 120Hz OLED display on the Portal 2 is very nice.

  • I think you need to pay GST on top of it?

Just checked my purchase from Ayn for the Odin 2 Pro back in 24/1/24
      Ayn order details
      Subtotal $369.00
      Shipping $22.00
      Taxes $0.00
      Total $391.00 USD

      Paypal payment details
      Paid 深圳市昂丽科技有限公司 with
      PayPal balance $20.00 AUD
      (my banking institute) $600.47 AUD
      PayPal's conversion rate: 1 AUD = 0.6302 USD
      Converted from: $620.47 AUD
      Converted to: $391.00 USD
This rate includes our currency conversion fee.

So no GST paid and no extra payment charge when it was delivered to my door either :D

I'm commenting in regards to not needing to pay for GST for an overseas purchase

        • +2

He bought Odin 2, not Odin 2 Portal.

      • Thank you for confirming, this is great if no need to pay 10% GST, I am thinking to buy Ayn Thor, I could buy from aliexpress shop by using voucher but need to add $60 GST and shipping cost, so it seems buying directly from Ayn website is cheaper

    how much in dollry-doos?

  • +4

The AYN Thor looks very compelling if anyone wants a bit of that DS nostalgia.

    • +2

Its fantastic for that and other systems with osrs on bottom

      • +1

And given the cost of used 3DS consoles now.. sheesh.

Sweet retro game corps link in ozbargain, double snack and drink for me today

  • Anyone know how fast is their shipping please? Might want to bring this for my overseas holiday early next month

    • Very slow, many placed order a week ago, haven't receive shipping email yet

      • Thx I better than while in shenzhen and buy over there instead, might not be this discount price but at least I have the real thing in hand with all emulators & games all pre-installed and loaded.

        • Likely you are still getting a good deal in china. With shipping included you are only paying $25 less than the price in China. However cheaper accessories over there could almost offset the difference.

        • Also I read online that someone ordered a portal base (before the price cut) on 25/1, still no tracking number on 6/2.

          • @ce5himm: Thats really sad, bet they over sold. I rather go to a real shop see the real thing and pay for that then.

  • Hows everyones new device going?…..good?….are you enjoying paying $400 for a pile of air?

    • Don't think anyone received it yet

      • And I noticed they sold out few days ago but then back in stock, which is crazy, if they cant fulfil the orders why bother keep selling and piss buyers off.

        • Who knows, at least end of Jan orders have received update on 12 Feb. I guess due to the CNY, early Feb orders may get updates at the end of this month. So happy waiting guys.

          • +1

@ce5himm: Not correct - I ordered on the 30th of January and have heard diddly squat.

Supposedly they will be returning today from CNY so we might start to get updates.

            • @Peekay: I'd say give it one more week, switching from holiday mode to work mode will take some time.

  • the deal is still on, just incase people still wants it. 25th should be US time. May still on for couple of hours.

  • I'm not sure this deal should still be up.

Orders from within January still have no shipping details and there is talk of recent orders being cancelled and speculation that mass cancellations are incoming.

    • Yeah saw lots of pissed off complains on reddit, lots there start cancelling their own orders and had enough with AYN, looks like they end up like Ayaneo no one wants to buy their products … what a shame

    • Orders from this event starting shipping today(7/3). So yes still a deal, just took a bit long.

They were surely oos, from maybe day 2 of this event till maybe yesterday.

Let's not talk about lack of communication/announcement, etc. Bad customer service, yes it sucks.

I personally think this is what happened, they did have some stock when they started the event (29/1), that's why some early orders got shipped before CNY. After CNY, they obviously sourcing parts, schedule production, while mostly focus on thor and odin 3. Until maybe yesterday they finally have some units built that they are able to ship today. Regarding to no reply from customer service, those reps have no idea, they don't have solid date to get the stock. they can't tell people they don't have stock and no eta, they can't lie to people they have stock in the warehouse either. So they chose keep silent

      • To whomever still interested, maybe it's a good time to order as you don't have to suffer CNY holidays, orders are moving, your delivery time should be within a month, not like many others didn't get a tracking over a month.
