I chose a card for my wife and wrote inside it "Yes, this card was free". She knows I won't spend money on a Valentine's card/ she would be disappointed if I spent money on a card.
She sounds like a keeper.

Meanwhile some other peoples' wife might think the husband is stingy and only got this card due to being free, and did not pay anyhing….hence don't care or treasure it as much
